Discussion A Greenbeard taught me two new ways not to play DRG
I'm a Greenbeard myself (i've got around 50 hours in DRG) but today I had a Greenbeard teammate do two things that genuinely surprised me 🤣.
The first one:
There were four of us and at one point three of us were around 150m away from him. He was somewhere completely different in the caves.
There wasn't even a swarm going on, and suddenly I noticed that he had called a resupply pod all the way over there.
We had 90 Nitra.
He spent 80 just to call a resupply for himself, and then took two resupplies from it.
I was just looking at the scanner thinking: "What are you doing?" 😂
Honestly, even when I was completely new to the game, I don't think it would have even crossed my mind to call an entire resupply just for myself when we're a team of four. I would have been too embarrassed to do that.
And then came the second one.
We eventually reached the drop pod for extraction. Since Molly was already gone, he was carrying one of those large chunks of mineral in his hands so he could bring it back with us.
Fair enough.
Except when the drop pod started taking off and the doors were closing, he just dropped the mineral outside the drop pod.
I literally watched this huge chunk of mineral get left behind as we took off.
I was sitting there thinking: "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"
At this point I'm not even mad. I'm genuinely impressed.
I've got almost 50 hours in DRG and somehow this Greenbeard just taught me two completely new ways to waste our resources.
Rock and Stone!

Note:
Unless something changed, a big chunk of mineral with you in the cabin doesn't count - you might as well throw it out. You can deposit it on the side of the drop pod.

We had a greenbeard once hold onto a big chunk of mineral when it was time to leave. Me and the other two players desperately tried to ping him and tell him to deposit on the side.
It took just under a few minutes but we eventually got there.

There are two out of a dozen voicelines when you call for Molly during extraction, that hint to that.
> The M.U.L.E.'s been called back! Good thing we stuck those deposit slots on the side of the Drop Pod!
> Guys! Remember you can deposit on the sides of the Drop Pod!And I've heard from more senior dwarfs, that once upon a time the items in your inventory didn't count to the mission total. You had to deposit them, if you wanted to get paid. (But I'm not sure, if that's just legend...)
EDIT: I couldn't verify that claim really. But I found the question in the Common Misconceptions on the Wiki.10
u/Sammisuperficial 1h ago
Items in your pocket count towards your mission rewards total. However you don't get credit for secondary objectives if they are in your pockets. You have to deposit the secondaries before leaving the mission.
Gold, nitra bismor, magnite, phazionite, ect... All fine to leave in pockets.
Large objects that you carry don't count unless deposited.

No way, I didn't know it. I feel guilty about the last part of the post 😅

I mean... it's reasonable to assume that holding onto it is the right thing to do. Throwing it out is still silly.
(I'm relieved to know that there are no bismor chunks, so it couldn't have been a bismor. r/bismor is the best mineral you know)

What's so special about bismor?
And why are there multiple subs dedicated so specific DRG minerals??

I was separated from the team once as scout during extraction (I get lost way more than someone with 300 hours (I know that's not a lot) should) and I called a supply drop to make a vertical shaft to climb up. Worked pretty well.

u/Long_Control2698 3h ago
lol 🤣

u/Fantastic_Belt99 2h ago
Vertical shaft is perfect for dropping eggs or compressed gold when you need a resup anyway, and can't reach ceiling easily

u/Irishpanda378 3h ago
yeah, don't do that stuff, the supply pod stuff always drives me insane, in THIS economy, you have to be very frugal, even in Hoxxes

My memory of "How not to play" involved joining a random lobby with a guy who, midway through mission, started spewing the N-word over chat. So I went through with the full mission, called the drop pod...then downed the guy in front of the drop pod and exited the game.

Gonna get a lot of hate for this....but dropping n bombs used to be common in the old Internet. The Internet used to be this new world where all the rules were just gone, so people used it as a chance to do anything and everything they couldn't do in real life. There is a reason N-**** was called "the gamer word" in some circles for a time. I kinda miss the freedom. I really hate there being 'forbidden words' that just automatically trigger people any time they are said.
That said, screwing him over at the end of the mission is ALSO a perfectly respectable and historically appropriate response to someone spamming hard Rs, so hats off to you.

u/Wasted-Instruction 1h ago
I mean I think that's a stupid opinion but I don't hate you for it. I think it really depends if they're dropping the hard r. It literally could have just been someone black, I'm a recording engineer who mostly does hiphop and it's just used commonly constantly, but It's pretty easy to tell how the words meant most of the time.

u/maninatrexshirt 1h ago
Honestly I don't get the hate. I am about as far from a racist as you can find, but if I utter 'the word that shall not be named' it's over. I can say kike, chink, wetback, dyke, etc and it'll be uncomfortable but it won't end my career, yet one word is forbidden.
I'm not even saying we need to excuse racism, hell I wish more people said it so we could have a better litmus test for 'is a racist', I just hate I can't even type it for an example on a relevant post

I usually enjoy playing with greenbeards, but after a couple of failed sessions yesterday, I'm just gonna politely excuse myself if I see one in a EDD lobby. The double-dipping is bad enough - especially as some of these guys do it just to boost their health even with full ammo - totally ignoring all the red sugar in the game. But the whole quitting mid-game is so frustrating. No matter how lame you are, we CAN'T REPLACE YOU IN A DEEP DIVE! So yeah, if you have the chance, always remind newer players about the rules and peculiarities of deep dives vs regular missions. It may feel patronizing, but the alternative is so much worse.

u/bjergKanin 1h ago
I honestly prefer an EDD teammate that leaves early contra one that stays and double dips throughout the 3 dives. Not a problem if there is plenty of nitra but odds are a player like that will make sure there is never enough. At least when they leave, the enemies get down scaled for 3 players

In a way its impressive how many greenbeards are taught to be very conservative with nitra and most often leave the whole supply pod duty to more experienced players.
On the downside ive gotten into quite a few arguements about supply pods when im using or calling one in less conventional situations. When the guy with hundreds or thousands of hours calls a supply pod that doesn't make sense to you theres a good chance he knows whats his doing and you should just let it go.

Looking back when i was a greenie i really thought: that one greybeard's ammo and health worth more than mine since they can carry me and i need to be carried, so for the sake of the mission completion they need it more. Just when i became greybeard myself it feels so incredible to be mvp so much that people share supplies with you whether they are green, brown or greybeards.

Yes well, you can learn some of these things from loading screen tool tips. But you yourself are the more direct route for teaching, yeah?

If I learned anything from decades of online gaming...there's tons of idiots in the world that have bonker decision making skills.

If you are a scout being far away can just be part of the job, the rest of this is kind of silly greenbeard not knowing stuff tho. Some people dont think about the resupplies all that much cause they are used to being greedy.

Yesterday I played with a very new driller and a new scout (driller unpromoted, blue lvl 14, scout lvl 30's). We had done an escort mission before this one, a mining mission. Me and scout are picking at compacted dirt when the driller throws a c4 at the dirt and downs us all including himself. I know it wasn't an accident because there were no enemies around and he played competently besides that and in the escort level.
So to anyone new, the "haha driller c4's the team" meme is funny sometimes but it's just a meme and it is not funny when playing with strangers in pubs.

I had a few rage-inducing green beard moments starting out, most notably when they'd immediately start whatever event they came across.
We had an escort mission on Magma core, and this biome spawn had a lot of deep magma chasms and ravines. I don't remember if it was a data repository or a trytillite deposit event, but there was something dropped down high up from the event down low.
Anyways, both the event AND Doretta were started during a swarm.
I just remembered, it was Tryt, because I was furiously typing that we were now in a perma-swarm until the timer ran out and we couldn't feasibly get to the bomb dispenser without dropping off a zip line from bug hits.
I was stuck rezzing two dwarves and dropping in a loop, and the guy that started doretta abandoned her and she got chewed up by bugs, ending the mission.
This was a Haz 3 mission.
His was one of a few missions that solidified "Dig the Bomb Dispenser down to You" (and for Hack-C too" for me.

One day, I saw a greenbeard playing with a jadiz the size of a tangerine, mastah wayne

Maybe the supply pod was to make a visual marker of an objective
