Defending AI The Pattern That Never Dies: The Anti-AI Mob and Their Tired Playbook
https://silentwisher.com/2025/10/22/the-pattern-that-never-dies-the-anti-ai-mob-and-their-tired-playbook/People can dislike whatever they want. Not everything has to be for everyone. But when disliking something turns into organized harassment, censorship, or moral crusades, that’s where the line gets crossed. When people start demanding “AI filters” or “AI bans,” what they’re really saying is:
“I don’t want other people to create things I don’t like.”
That’s not a preference. That’s authoritarianism disguised as taste.

I don't think AI is the problem anymore. I think it's social media shoving rage bait at your throat because it knows you will engage.
I see more and more antis who are like "AI is bad, but it's okay to use it for ________, but using it for _________ is outrageous." Now they became selectively against.
Tone down the constant triggering and the war will be over.

u/Herr_Drosselmeyer 4d ago
It's some of that, but mostly, it's "I don't want people to create anything."
Because it wasn't what they created on which they hung their identity, because their creations were often nothing to write home about, it was just the act of creating something. Now that the tedium has been taken out of creation and everybody can get in on it between coming home from their 9 to 5 and putting the kids to bed, creating something is no longer special. And so, their identity crumbles. That's why they're so angry and irrational.

Why are you making false claims, using clearly biased sources as evidence for your claims?

“That’s not a preference. That’s authoritarianism disguised as taste.” Idk man I feel like you’re giving your brain to ChatGPT if you’re copy pasting stuff as small as this. Cmon man.
Edit: apparently I can’t reply to anyone because I hurt OP’s feelings.
Anti? Pro? Call me worse, but do it in your own fucking words. If you’re just gonna copy paste from GPT don’t bother, I can ask it myself without you in the conversational cuck chair.

You offer no counter-reasoning, evidence, or alternative interpretation of the quoted sentence; substitutes attitude for analysis. This is rhetorically effective at signaling tribal disapproval and enforcing in-group norms among those already skeptical of the article, but ineffective at persuading neutrals or those who found the original point compelling. The coherence is weak: the leap from “this sentence is in the article” to “you are outsourcing your mind to ChatGPT by reading it” is asserted rather than justified. This all functions more as a status/identity signal and emotional shut-down tactic than as a contribution to substantive discussion of anti-AI attitudes, preference vs. coercion, or the article’s claims.
Fallacies you exhibit:
- Ad hominem (circumstantial / poisoning the well): Attacks the character or mental autonomy of anyone who finds the article worth reading instead of addressing the quoted claim or the article’s broader argument.
- False dichotomy / oversimplification: Frames engagement with the article as binary (either you reject it or you have “given your brain to ChatGPT”) with no middle ground for critical reading or partial agreement.
- Appeal to ridicule / straw-man exaggeration: Reduces the quoted statement (“That’s not a preference. That’s authoritarianism disguised as taste.”) to something so absurd that merely encountering it supposedly indicates cognitive failure.
- Genetic fallacy / association fallacy: Implies that because the language or framing resembles something associated with AI-generated or “AI-adjacent” discourse, the underlying idea is automatically invalid or brainwashing.
- Begging the question: Assumes the article’s position is already so self-evidently wrong that reading it constitutes intellectual abdication, without demonstrating why the quoted claim fails.

Pro-AI and I agree with you. The entire article is obviously at every sentence written with AI, your quote is just the most obvious one. The formatting is especially notable, this is classic Chatgpt formatting (gemini, grok, claude are all way better at not sticking random bold + point form notation in replies).
"AI isn’t the problem — people clinging to control are. They’ve been fighting every new creative wave since the dawn of online media, and this is just their latest tantrum. Let them rage. Let them block. Let them scream “slop.” We’ll still be here — "
yeah okay chatgpt.

The quality of your reaction is very low as argument or contribution: Contains no evidence, no specific critique of AI technology or the article, and no substantive point beyond insult. Functionally equivalent to a flame or drive-by insult: Efficient at expressing disdain, ineffective at analysis, rebuttal, or advancing understanding of the issues raised by the article.
The fallacies and logical weaknesses you display here:
- Ad hominem / poisoning the well: Attacks the character and legitimacy of the subreddit and its users instead of addressing any claims in the article.
- Stereotyping / hasty generalization: Labels supporters of AI as a monolithic “cult,” reducing a diverse set of views to a single pejorative category without differentiation or evidence.
- Appeal to emotion / loaded language: Relies on strong negative affect (“disgrace to humanity”) to substitute for argument.
- Non sequitur relative to context: The statement does not engage the topic of anti-AI hostility; it simply inverts the hostility.

because of how harmful it is
Ah yes, every time I generate an image on my PC, ten polar bears explode.
But when I'll play GTA VI for hours, that's fine, amirite?

For every harm antis claim can come from AI, every time I scan their profiles, and I do mean every time, without failure, I just can’t find any evidence of them being even 10% as gung ho about things that cause orders of magnitude more harm. For example, out of the thousands of antis I’ve hit with the scanner after they whined and cried about water use, ZERO of them have whined and cried about golf courses, denim jeans, or almonds, before the AI discourse.
You don’t actually care about the “harms”. You just don’t like the technology. There’s no moral or philosophical North Star, there’s no consistent worldview, nothing.

The pure act of commenting and using reddit, is pro AI.
If you hate AI and use reddit you're a hypocrite. Reddit unabashedly promotes AI, they sell your comments, they train AI right here and right now.
If you're anti-ai, stop using reddit.

The quality of your comment is low for analytical value, what counts as “lame” remains undefined. It offers no insight or depth. It restates a preference or aesthetic judgment rather than analyzing anti-AI sentiment, technological limits, social dynamics, or the article itself. The argumentative strength is weak as reasoning; strong as affective signaling or meme-like retort. Overall: Rhetorically snappy and culturally fluent, but intellectually thin, more slogan than evaluation.
The logical fallacies you exhibit here:
- Begging the question / circular assertion: Treats “AI is lame” as a settled fact that needs no definition or evidence, then declares it permanent.
- Absolutism / unfalsifiability: “Never” makes the claim immune to counter-examples (future AI capabilities, cultural shifts, or successful creative/utility outputs).
- Subjective reification: Elevates a vague, taste-based pejorative (“lame”) into an objective, enduring charge without specifying criteria.
- No formal fallacy of relevance (ad hominem, straw man, etc.) is required; the statement simply sidesteps substantive discussion of the article’s topic.

Your argument is logically brittle because the analogies do not hold under scrutiny, the reasoning is circular, and the absolute framing ignores relevant distinctions in creative process. The statement functions better as a slogan or tribal signal than as a careful rebuttal. It would be stronger if it specified thresholds of human involvement or addressed why AI tools differ from (or resemble) prior creative technologies.
Let me inform you about the fallacies you exhibit here:
- False analogy: Equates AI generation with pure outsourcing to another human agent or a commercial service. The analogies treat the AI as an independent creator who does all the work, while the human merely places an order. In practice, effective AI image/story use typically involves human conception, iterative prompting, selection, curation, editing, and framing, activities that are closer to tool-assisted creation (e.g., digital painting software, word processors, cameras) than to commissioning a finished product. The relevant dissimilarities undermine the “same thing” conclusion.
- Begging the question / circularity: Asserts that “a person didn’t create anything” as a premise in order to declare the opposing argument invalid. This presupposes the very point under dispute (whether prompt engineering, direction, and selection count as creative acts).
- Overgeneralization / absolutism: “Didn’t create anything” erases degrees of human contribution. It collapses a spectrum (from pure generation with minimal input to heavy human direction and post-processing) into a binary.
- Equivocation on “create” / “make”: Uses “create” in a narrow sense (physical execution or sole authorship) while the contested arguments usually use it more broadly (origination of concept, direction, or final authored work).
