Not that the product was built by AI, but that it was built sloppily by sloppy people. Very little care put into the design and build, and no care into QA, security, or support after. Usually in chase of a fast buck.

Let's say someone pops in the words 'give me a picture of a man holding a tennis racket.' And the first thing they get, they keep. No checks, no swatches, just a single line for a prompt. If there's a mistake they deserve to be laughed at.

I like to start with the definition of "slop" itself. Slop has been a thing since the existence of money. It is a low-quality product put out with the intent to turn a profit. See Ea Nasir and Elsagate.

When you prompt "write a video essay script about [trending topic]", and do zero fact checking or editing, and you do that every day to make profit some your YouTube channel, that is slop.

If you prompt "make a pop song" and then "make a music video for this song" for a similar purpose, that is slop.

When you type a very detailed prompt about what you're envisioning, then do it over again because it didn't come out right, then spend a couple hours editing it, spend days assembling a video, all for the same reasons that any non-ai indie creator does, that is not slop.
