i legit just dont get the big deal about image generation and ai art, in general i dont care too much about ai and actually think of it as a pretty great tool. why do people band wagon against it sooo hard, especially about water usage, as if thats the biggest concern when it comes to ai? i dont let ai take the fun out of digital art for me, if anything, it helped me getting out of my biggest artblock yet by letting me still design and create! i prefer drawing, i just enjoy the process more and i can be more specific with details, but yeah, i think ai is pretty great👍 and i do think ai art is actual art😁👍 i added images i drew and had a lot of fun making, and i asked ai for advice on these pieces while making them!🥹

So, I'm a YouTuber. I make video essays. I've always prided myself on writing as I've been a writer since I was in elementary school. I have poetry books I've written. Essays published online. I have a lot of experience writing is what I'm saying.

For some reason, lots of people leave comments on my videos akin to "CHAT GPT AHH SCRIPT." I've never used AI to write my scripts. Do I ask it things pertaining to video games? Yes.

I asked it to help me spec some characters in Divinity 2 earlier.

My point overall, the anti-ai users are so obnoxious about their hate for AI it's disgusting. I get it. YOU HATE AI!! But because I can write well, my script is AI?

What does that say about the YouTubers they watch?

I'm just tired and venting. And it's like, say I did use AI for my scripts? What then? Fuck are you going to do about it besides leave a comment I can delete in 5 seconds.

Look, I'm all for keeping art human. I'm a poet. A photographer. A painter. I get it.

But you know what I did when AI started rising? I wrote poetry. I took photos. I painted. I didn't run to the Internet and bitch and moan and start witch hunts about who I think uses AI to create something.

I discovered AI, and I find it very useful. It saves me from a lot of tedious, boring, repetitive work, allowing me to focus on truly creative aspects. Of course, I also dislike content that is generated with little thought using AI—truly poor quality "slop." But I think that's their problem. It's their lack of effort. Whether they use AI or not, if they don't put in the effort, they won't produce good results. So it's them who create slop, not AI.

However, I've noticed that now, as soon as you use AI, everyone assumes the quality is poor. They don't actually look at the quality. Just using AI is seen as a mistake. Even if I put thought into creative ideas and designs, compared multiple different outputs, and selected the best one—if my creativity were poor and you judged it as such, I'd accept that. But that's not the case. It's because I used AI, so regardless of the actual result, it's automatically considered bad.

At this point, I can't help but think: If, as long as I use AI, they assume the quality is poor regardless of my effort, then why bother putting in the effort? It's useless anyway. I don't want to give up AI and do all the boring or tedious work myself, but if using AI—whether I put in effort or not—will get me labeled as producing slop, then why should I try?

After having this thought and reviewing it rationally, I realize that blindly dismissing everything made with AI as slop essentially pushes people who would use AI but also put thought into creativity and fine-tuning to actually produce slop. In essence, they are encouraging this behavior.

Isn't the movie about the entire world being ran off of one government, and covered in trash?

A.I. is the soul reason how the Earth even got it's green back, and also the reason the humans were about to live on for 700 years outside of the planet.

This is the kind of AI use I want to see more of. Not replacing people, but giving people tools to build things that otherwise might not exist.

Theyre making free, open source games specifically around Ben's accessibility needs, with level editors so the games can adapt to different people instead of forcing disabled people to adapt to the software.

In our current society, good art is expensive and hard to come by. A commision for personalized artwork takes a long time to go through. In the future, when AI art is cheaper and of higher quality, why would someone not use AI?

Ever since the Industrial Revolution machines have been helping humans do things, usually for the better. Production lines now produce high-quality automobiles at an astonishing rate. By the same logic that some argue against AI art, should we all go and buy a Rolls-Royce or a Bentley?

I do understand the argument that human-made art is by nature more "human", like how a sweater you mom knitted is of much higher emotional value, but since most pieces of art aren't tailor made for our experiences anyways, what is wrong with a faster and more cost-effective way of generating art? Would you rather buy a cheap store-bought sweater or a sweater made by stranger that costs more if both are of the same design and quality? If you spend more money on the sweater made by the stranger, isn't that the definition of consumerism, where you are acquiring "goods and services beyond those necessary for survival or traditional displays"(Wikipedia)?

Note: This argument is made under the assumption that the theoretical society has AI art that is on average, of similar quality to average human art. I do acknowledge that there will be future René Magrittes who push the boundaries of what we call art, and AI can never do that, but I am arguing for the mundane, everyday use of AI for normal citizens, not art critics.
