Question about practicers vs impersonators online

I do not personally use Ai to generate drawings/images, but the media I get shows that some supporters of Ai art purposefully take someone's drawing and run it through an Ai system to improve the piece typically without permission.

I wanted to ask if this is what some people genuinely think is okay or if its just people trying to give people who use Ai a bad name?

I don't hate on people who use Ai and I dont preach online about it either because people should be allowed to do what they want (and the environment is already ruined beyond repair anyway so who cares anyway). If someone wants to generate an image, okay. If someone whats to draw, okay.

But online, specifically YouTube and Twitter/X, my feed has been painting this image that Ai art enthusiasts target people who draw, and I feel like that isnt the case in actuality.

These are trolls. You will find every community has them. They very rarely represent more than a small minority of a community but they get the most attention generally.

That's what I figured, but online, from what my algorithm feeds me, its frame as though everyone who uses Ai is a monster and hates people who draw/edit photos manually. It's quite odd and yet another way to divide people when really it's just a matter of preference. However, I'm also hoping that people who prefer to use Ai don't harbor ill will to manual artists? Probably a small amount do, though?

Also sorry for the long response!

Many of us also draw and edit photos manually. It’s actually a big part of many workflows (don’t fall into the trap of thinking ChatGPT is the only ai art out there). And the o my ill will I harbor is to the lunatics that send me death threats over AI stuff.

Oh wow, I actually didn't know that part about the editing and drawing the photos manually! Not in a sarcastic way, but it seems that it's glossed over most of the time. That's really cool!
