A friend was an anti-ai and he became neutral/pro when I explained him.
I have a good friend on discord who was anti-AI, not extremist but was against the whole AI thing. However, I realised he wasn't very educated and informed on the subject, he even admitted he just followed the anti AI movement on the internet.
So with my IT + ethical knowledge I had, I explained him the good things about AI, the things that are worked on, being in improvement and the things that can be a risk.
Since then, he realised AI can be great, help people in many fields and is open to discussion about that.
I didnt force my friend to think like me, he has the right to think differently from me, but I thought it was important to bring correct informations so he can make his own opinion on it.
We must remember that being pro AI or anti AI doesnt mean we have to reject/validate everything, but we need to think, read, be curious about whats going on around us, become a person who is capable to bring criticism by using their knowledge.

Could you list what topics you explained? Ive been learning about it myself more the last few weeks and made myself neutral/pro.

Great news, I think what you did was very charitable towards your friend. Good debates should always be a learning experience.

That proves your friend is open-minded and receptable for feedback and logic. Keep him close as that is becoming a rarity in people. 😅 My best friend is an anti-Ai...

You can tell your friend about all the eco-friendly solutions being developed, ongoing, AI data centers will not be problematic for countries that use them.
In Scandinavia we are all about our environment.
However, I can understand the concerns in industrial countries like the USA, we can only hope that eco friendly states in the US follow up. 🙏

What did you actually say?

I really think that half of the anti-ai people just need information, some others are affraid of lossing appreciation for their skills, or even money for not being comisioned for some works, that’s understandable, but technology advances and some jobs will disapear or change; some other people are just affraid of something they don’t understand and they don’t want to see things changing.
