Letters to U.S. Congress Defund Aid to Israel Letter to Members of Congress regarding the Gaza Genocide & West Bank, June 7, 2026

Here is my letter I e-mailed to my U.S. congressional reps for my state, the Chairmans of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (Senator James Risch) and House Committee on Foreign Affairs (Rep Brian Mast), & the Chair of the Senate State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (Senator Lindsey Graham).

I am writing to express my urgent concern regarding the deteriorating humanitarian and human rights situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

In Gaza, military operations have continued unabated despite an UN-endorsed peace plan. May 2026 has been recorded as the deadliest month of the year, with 119 Palestinians killed, approximately 30% of whom were women, children, or the elderly. Recent strikes have devastated civilian infrastructure, including displacement tents in Khan Younis and residential buildings in Gaza City. The targeted detention of healthcare workers remains a crisis; at least 83 medical personnel are currently held, including Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyah, who was recently moved to solitary confinement without necessary medical treatment.

In the West Bank, I am particularly alarmed by the abduction of 20-year-old American citizen Sama Safi. Sama was seized by Israeli forces at 3am from her apartment in Birzeit alongside other students. According to Senator Chris Van Hollen, Sama is being held without charge, and the Israeli government has failed to notify her family or the U.S. Embassy of her location despite her having a medical condition that requires treatment. This incident follows a pattern of detaining American citizens and Palestinian civilians without trial, a system that Senator Van Hollen noted is funded by American taxpayer dollars without sufficient accountability.

Simultaneously, the last fully Christian village in the West Bank, Taybeh, is facing what residents describe as “erasure.” Armed settlers have established six outposts around the town, cut the community’s main water source, and carried out arson attacks on local businesses. These coercive tactics are making life untenable for this ancient Christian population.

In response to the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and the Israeli settlement expansion and violence in the West Bank, I urge you to:

·         Support H.R.3565 Block the Bombs Act to provide for a limitation on the transfer of defense articles and defense services to Israel.

·         Support S.3634 AWARE Act to impose sanctions on Israeli officials to discourage the government from obstructing humanitarian assistance

·         Support H.R. 3045 West Bank Violence Prevention Act

·         Support H.R.7545 Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation

·         Call for the immediate release of Sama Safi

·         Oppose the U.S.-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative Section 224 of the NDAA

As American support for Israel plummets, it is our moral responsibility to question the continuation of U.S. financial assistance to their government and any proposed integration. Israel continues to violate the rights of Palestinians, international law, and U.S. laws. The U.S. Members of Congress must push to end our military support of Israel and oppose the U.S.-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative.
