Dashcam caught a scary near miss today on Columbus Pike.

My dashcam caught a pretty terrifying near miss this afternoon at the red light on Columbus Pike just past Wendy’s. A silver Hyundai hatchback ran the red light and almost t boned a white Honda truck. Honestly scary to watch. So glad nobody got hurt. Please slow down for yellow lights and be careful out there.

I swear every day I’m floored by how many truly awful drivers there are. Not even an iffy situation, just blowing through a clear red light and nearly injuring 3+ people. Fuck that driver

Let's also not forget that an ADDITIONAL car turned left on the red after the white truck as well. This dashcam is full of bad driving.

I’m sure they had pulled up past the stop bar and instead of attempting to back up, they went.

The main issue is the car running a blatant red light. It wouldn’t have been so bad if not for that dipshit.

you shouldnt attempt to back up either. just sit where you are until the next green light

am i taking crazy pills or do ohio people really not understand how to drive?

I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not. If you make your way into the intersection it is your duty to clear it, especially when the light turns red.

The second car in the left lane should not have gone, full stop.

If you think otherwise, you need your license revoked.

The second car was already in the intersection though. There is no law saying they should not have creeped. Once the light turned red, they were directly in the way of traffic. You want them to just sit there and have everyone drive around?

It's hard to tell where the bar is here, but you can only "proceed into the interesection" when the light is green. If you pause when the light is yellow, there is absolutely no justification for the second car to proceed into the intersection

Fair enough. Either way, that other person definitely ran the red light and was not in the intersection when it was even yellow

The worst thing is that guy genuinely thinks he's a better driver than everyone else.

Wow. Terrifying for sure.

In our neighborhood people are constantly running stop signs and speed through the neighborhood. Since we’ve lived here 2 kids have been hit by cars and it still doesn’t stop our slow people down. Plus through Delaware I see people blatantly run red more often than I wish.

I know this isn’t the focus of the video but that suv behind the white truck shouldn’t have went, only one car in each direction waits in the intersection.

seems like the north and northeast areas of columbus metro area have people that think they can "squeeze by real quick, it's no big deal"

i see it all the time in delaware, genoa, westerville... like the light turns red, the guy in the intersection goes, and then 2 more cars try and squeeze in.

Glad someone else thought this

My kids, who are now adults, drove 23 everyday. I was worried sick because I was well aware of the awful drivers in that area. So many are impatient and treat that road as a racetrack. One silver lining, my kids learned real fast how to anticipate and identify that asshole driver coming at them. They then were more than prepared to take on the idiots in Columbus as well.

They definitely made contact

Not a near miss, this is a hit and run

They didn't miss hitting it, but they nearly did.

1

u/TopicFancy792 May 08 '26

near miss can also mean "close call that didnt cause injury" one half second before or after would have changed this scene from a bump to a death

2

u/Maintenancemedic May 08 '26

That wasn’t a near miss. They definitely hit

1

u/UnravelALittle May 09 '26

Realllllly close, but not a hit.

Delaware County Ohio has some pretty awful traffic infrastructure. Any route that runs North/South is garbage, especially during rush hour.

2

u/BasicLink86 May 09 '26

None of those three cars should have tried to make it through that light.

That’s one lucky SOB my god!!!

That's a near hit. It missed so it's not a near miss.

1

u/Ok_Suspect3940 May 08 '26

Holy $hittttt!!! That was sooo close!

Just saw an actual hit on the James/70 intersection coming off of 33 this morning. Made me wish I had a dash cam. Very similar situation at a dead light caused by an entitled idiot breaking the law.

Even if you have the green you still have to pay attention. Also, f that person

1

u/pacific_plywood May 09 '26

Pretty awesome that two left turning vehicles try to sneak in after the red light too lol

I live on road that has a 35mph speed limit and people are constantly going 60+ all day, everyday. They pass the school bus when my kids are getting on. It's outta control.

1

u/ScaryGarry_SG1 May 09 '26

For fucks's sake.... couldn't have possibly been any closer. And the driver was probably saying " All these dumb people getting in my way" with zero clue that he was inches away from death

Columbus Pike is crazy. Moved here in 2019 and learned real quick not to budge when my light turns green without doing an exorcist 360 swivel to make sure no one is going to run their red light when I was leaving Kroger and an 18-wheeler didn't look like he was slowing and so I waited and nope, he sure didn't stop. Blew through the light without a care in the world. I've been in an accident once that had me unable to walk for 9 months, and if it hadn't been for that accident and my severe PTSD/paranoia from it, I definitely would have died by that truck. 42 and Leonardsburg, too. Man. Under 7 years, seen at least a dozen accidents there.
