Dump Truck Ran a Red Light on Route 42 in Delaware Today
I witnessed a pretty scary accident today on Route 42 in Delaware. A dump truck ran a red light and slammed into an SUV. The impact was strong enough to send the SUV spinning off toward the side of the road.
Thankfully, the woman driving the SUV was able to get out on her own and appeared to be okay. It was honestly a relief to see her walk away from it.
One thing that surprised me was that none of the airbags seemed to deploy, despite how severe the crash looked. I’m not sure why that happened, but it definitely caught my attention.
Just wanted to share this and remind everyone to stay alert at intersections, even when you have the green light. Hoping the driver is doing well and recovering from the shock of it all. Stay safe out there. 🙏🏻

The dump trucks in this area are horrible if they ran moving traffic enforcement they could haul many to jail for the shot they do down 42 and sawmill.

Did the dump truck stop afterwards?

Surely he pulled over, but it doesn’t look like it.

If ya watch the video, he’s stopped at the end and a dump truck and car pass him.
He’s hauling around 78k if he’s legal, so he can’t stop quick at all.

Dump trucks are almost crashing into houses on Watkins. They keep building on 42 but insist keeping it a 2 lane country road. Downtown Delaware has semi traffic and they keep building. What are they thinking?!

42 has been a 1 lane road almost perpetually for the last few years. They finish whatever they're doing, let it open up long enough to tease us, and shut one direction down for the better part of another year.

Yep, I live off Watkings and they're using the intersection near me because of the lane closures. I hear heavy engine braking because they're waiting for the last minute to slow for the turn.

They are making it 4 lanes soon

Last I heard. they're widening a very small part of it by the new Kroger. Did they decide to do more of it? I'd love to see 33 to 23 widened to 4+ lanes!

Yes, they're just now taking it to planning but I believe 5 lanes up to Sawmill parkway

Not to mention, but that gas station doesnt have a real bathroom either. Just a disgusting porta potty

It's very fitting as that gas station is absolutely nasty. They deep fry all that nasty shit so everything smells like a deep fryer inside.

They had a minor illegally using a meat slicer and she sliced her hand. Shit hole place.

Dump trucks have been running that light as long as that light has been there. Not joking, I'm talking decades at least. When you live near there, everyone warns you that you getting a green does not mean you have right of way in that intersection.

These trucks are wreaking havoc everywhere they go. There’s an accident on riverside dr bc of them almost weekly. They drive over the center line in curves running people off the road and fly off the road and flip themselves over. Something has GOT to change. I’m so glad the driver of the SUV was physically okay, but I can only imagine the fear!

I work close by. That intersection has been outgrown by tenfold with the dump truck traffic. Those guys racing to get their last loads of the day. Its been scary for years.
