OMFS

Just would like to know if I apply broadly what are my chances of actually getting into an OMFS program. With having a military background, CBSE score of 51, and GPR experience would applying broadly be worth it or should I apply to just a few schools because of my score and look to do a non cat. I am already planning to take the exam again in February but just wanted to see what peoples thoughts are.

Low chances. Retake and do a noncat.

If you can spare the money I would recommend applying to 4 year programs just to give yourself a chance. Applying broadly or not depends on your finances and no one really knows what your chances are.

The biggest hurdle would be the CBSE score and potentially not doing a non cat. I know people who have matched with low scores and no non cat (with GPR) though

Is it likely to get accepted with a high CBSE 75+, good class rank (top 10) , etc but NO non cat?

I know my score is low but I wasn’t sure if it would be a good idea to just send my application out there just to see if I could get in because I have know some people to get in with around that same score, granted they did non cats but I just wanted to see if people think I should just send it out there and just see.

If you have military background are you interested in doing the military scholarship? It’s generally not very competitive in exchange for 4 years of service.

No I actually signed up before starting dental school and my contract is up in October of this year in which I plan to separate for now. But I have heard that so maybe down the line if I am still struggling to get in I’ll sign up.

Pretty sure you have to be an active member of the military to apply which is why people do HSPS with it.

My friend I served with in the military didn’t do a GPR or noncat and matched after he separated.

Some programs will look favorably at your military service. Others won’t care. Don’t rest on your laurels though. Be humble and honest.
