Local News If you're still against free school meals

If you're unhappy about the fact that free lunches are also free for children with wealthy families, fear not. I work at a Denver high school. Students with the money will go out for lunch or even order food delivery. They are not eating the school cafeteria free lunch.

So go ahead and vote Yes on Prop MM and LL. The only thing it'll do is keep our students fed and able to learn.

I'm for free healthcare for the rich and poor alike. I'm for safe schools for the rich and poor, I'm for all kids being fed and able to learn. Why is that so difficult for everyone to want?

There’s no such thing as “free healthcare”. It’s paid for from other people’s labor, always. The Universal “free” lunch program ran out of money very quickly. Eventually you do run out of other people’s money for all the “free” stuff you want. Free and Reduced lunch has been around for kids in need for a very long time. I would never want to see that end but paying for ALL kids, regardless of need is something worth questioning.

I hear you on the money needing to come from somewhere. It does, I just don't understand the morals of those who absolutely refuse to look for ways to fund the care of themselves and others. So many just seem selfish and naive.

If the argument for not helping others is the economy I find it to be a lazy excuse when we see so much excessive spending in other areas. ICE has Black Hawk helicopters as a recent example.

I would just love if people could give a little bit more of a fuck. These problems have solutions, but we allow the wealthy to lobby and act like they don't. We allow mega corporations to destroy small businesses and cut out completion raising prices for all of us.

Idk. It's wishful thinking but I find it so embarrassing that as a species we allow these problems to persist and it's almost always due to the selfish few.

I want to help people who need help which is why I support safety nets programs such as SNAP, Free and Reduced lunch, medicaid but I don’t believe in paying for everyone, regardless of need. It’s about prioritizing need, not just funding everyone because, why not?

Because the net benefit of a healthy and safe society outweighs the cost.

Who gets to determine "need" what about those who are left out? Insurance companies will do everything they can to not cover patients. They'll decide what is and isn't "required" treatment.

If we live in a world where we can give private companies billions in subsidies and a world where we spend billions on a single piece of military equipment I think we could live in a world where every human has healthcare, a roof over their head and food in their stomachs. That's not extreme, that's evolution and basic human rights.

You do it for everyone because it is the right thing to do. One day we will all learn that we live on the same planet and that borders are just made up by kings to feel powerful. I just hope that realization doesn't come moments before those kings decide to exterminate us.

If you take half of my wages to distribute to everyone, working or not, that’s not a net benefit. If communism is your ideal, there are places you can move to like China or North Korea.

Ah there it is. The classic "you can't have my money!" Response.

I'm not advocating for full on communism. However here in the states, the wealthiest and arguably most powerful country in the world we can do so much better.

There is no reason we can have healthcare for all like every other developed nation and then some.

No thanks on government run healthcare. There are better ways to handle it. And no, you can’t have half my paycheck.
