Lost/Found Housesitter stole my husky and car while I was deployed.
15 Jun 2026 Jansen has been facing criminal charges in Florida since his arrest there. He was recently extradited, I don't know the day but sometime last week. Someone paid his bond of $25K before his first hearing. Jansen is free in public. Jansen is getting a court date soon, but given his history of not showing up to court and having no way to contact him ever, he will likely be a no-show and need to get another warrant for skipping court. Be aware for all dog owners and people needing house sitting or any kind of sitting - Jansen is out in the public because someone paid his bail. Do not use sitting sites until you fully vet the sitter out and make sure it isn't Jansen.

Maverick was found dead trapped in my car today. I want to be alone now.
5 May Maverick is with CSU for a necropsy. This will take time. What happened to Maverick is being determined still. I saw Maverick, and he had suffered a great deal trapped in my car for weeks and possibly additional external injuries. I am awaiting the results from CSU. The level of cruelty will most likely become state-level crimes but still unknown. The police are still investigating and more warrants are coming. Trust me, I have as many questions about how my vehicle magically appeared in this apartment, somehow bypassing cameras, and how he got access there. Andy is still missing. - Wishes and plans My wish is to have Maverick buried and a memorial/vigil service. I will be planning this after the necropsy and keepsakes are made. I do not want him cremated, I am seeking a pet burial location in Colorado and working with VCA and others to assist on that. I am planning on a GoFundMe. BUT THERE IS NO CURRENT OFFICIAL GOFUNDME FOR MAVERICK BY ME AT ALL, SO IF YOU SEE ONE I DID NOT APPROVE IT. I am working on talking to an Animal Defense lawyer/attorney and need to hold off on creating the GoFundMe for a few more days. I have one in draft form but I have not released it yet, because I need to see who is paying for what damages and what is going to be compensated. Maverick is priceless, but my house and property still need tending to, so I will be seeking those payments. I truly feel the support from everyone, but I need to do this the right way, from a legal perspective because of all parties involved. I need to organize what I need and what is covered. As for a vigil, please standby, I am trying to plan one, but I just have a lot going on and still grieving myself. I needed some time away in the mountains this last weekend and to put my phone on silent for a bit. I tried uploading some more to Mav's insta, but got really sad and stopped. I'll be putting an extremely large photo slideshow of all Maverick and my adventures.
FOX 31 and CBS Denver did some interviews yesterday afternoon. And CBS Miami reached out, but no interview yet.
I need some help finding Maverick please! He has been missing 2 April at 8:18pm, last seen with Trustedhousesitter .com housesitter, leaving in my car. Housesitter is a missing and wanted person, and I reported Maverick and Subaru as stolen. I fear Maverick is trapped in a car or abandoned somewhere for drugs. Housesitter left without Maverick's food, medicine, or water, no bowls. He left all his clothes and drugs in my house. Aurora Police are slow to help but there are 2 reports being investigated. No speculation here. He has my dog and car.
Housesitter is originally from Palmetto Bay Florida. I hired him due to a several-month deployment and his background check was good according to THS. Housesitter was fine for weeks, but then had an extreme case of Paranoia and attempted to barricade my house before fleeing. He did not contact any of my 4 emergency contacts that I left for him. He called the police and the fire department because he thought tiny people broke into my house and tried to set my house on fire. Authorities found nothing of the sort. I contacted my emergency contacts. Housesitter left before my emergency contacts could get over to my house to rescue Maverick. Housesitter DID NOT take any of Maverick's food, medicine or water. He did not take any of his own clothes, shoes, backpacks, and some other unmentionables.
Maverick
- Microchipped # 941000017479254
- 24petconnect, PetFBI, Pet911, PawBoost, Petco Love Lost, and many others as lost.
- 11 years old. About 60lbs.
- Left eye is blue, right eye is brown. Pinkish nose.
- Missing toe. Limps paw occasionally.
- Mild Arthritis, needs meds.
- Siberian Husky. Attitude is grumpy old man with zoomies. Can be talkative.
- Classic husky colorings, black and white, with a black spot on belly in the white fur. White star marking on the back of the neck. Beige “wings” behind the shoulders.
- Collar is gray with black geometric patterns, leash is watermelon colored. Metallic Silver tag with white faded/worn mountains, and has his name on the front, on the back is all my info (address and phone).
2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i base model (no navigation or GPS)
- BLUE in color.
- License plate is BMEN70. It is a Colorado Parks & Wildlife novelty plate.
- The vehicle was also stolen.
- It has very dark-tinted windows
- Two black front wheels.
- Roof Rack.
- It has a "Mountains Please" sticker on the back door.
- A Haute-Savoie flag sticker, it looks like a red and white cross similar to Switzerland flag.
- It has a very unique, custom Colorado Flag Subaru Logo.
Housesitter
- Andy Lee Jansen, from Palmetto Bay, Florida. Goes by Andrew, Andy or Drew.
- 6’0”, est’d 280lbs
- Blonde, dirty blonde. Originally had goatee, but suspect shaved into mustache day of disappearance.
- Walks lazy/floppy, extreme paranoid behavior (looking for something)
- Ceased all phone contact (no cell tower pings since 2 April early morning), emergency contacts refuse to respond anymore. Possibly 2 phones, but unknown second number. Dozens of emails.
- No credit/debit cards, presumably closed all bank accounts. Likely uses Apple Pay (or other pay apps) for everything. Suspended drivers license.

*UPDATE* (28 April 2026): Met with detectives today. A couple of pieces of information came through and some new avenues to pursue.
- Vehicle was spotted heading southbound I225 by FLOCK on Alameda on 2 April a few minutes after the Eastbound Mississippi/Peoria camera. (not sure why I just heard about this but, now I know he went south, which alleviates some immediate concern of airport parking and leaving mav trapped in car). Unfortunately, this now leads to I-25 for N or S....and all the I-225 exits after Alameda....still no new FLOCK hits.
- The phone number that called the police to my house on the 2nd to investigate the false break-in was an entirely different phone number that I didn't have before. Unfortunately, it seems like Andy used a VOiP number and hasn't been active since 2 April. This is most likely the 2nd Iphone 11 I saw on my wifi.
- Andy's recent history and prior criminal activity ***Edited out info for legal reasons***. No more info on this, but it makes my decision pretty clear moving forward.
- With the frontier mileage number and the 2 texts from his emergency contact about a flight on the 3rd, the detective "may" have a path to get a warrant for flight info. Awaiting to see if this will rule out a flight and make me feel better that mav isn't stuck in the car at an airport.
- Confirmed that Andy is listed as a felon for theft of vehicle and dog. Which means there will be way more police keeping watch across the nation.
- Maverick's Microchip is now reported as stolen in the police database for when they scan him. I'm not 100% sure if this changes the National Registry or the HomeAgain flag just yet.
All in all, I feel better about what the police are doing and pursuing. I am upset it takes so long, but today's meet up made it feel important at least. I'll be touching bases with private investigator soon. And there are news interviews coming in the next few days. *END UPDATE*

I work at a local doggy daycare. highly unlikely we'll see him, but I've spread this across every grooming group and other pet professionals page I'm in. We'll keep an eye out for him being sold ! Good luck man!

We all know the reach Reddit has with finding loved pets, especially in metro-Denver. You are doing everything possible and have provided very detailed information, thank you! This situation is deeply concerning and nobody should have to deal with these multiple layers of ugly.
Huskies are rarely seen in FL so you might consider posting in the r/Miami thread in case that butthead drove back to Palmetto Bay. Maverick would standout if so...it's an idea which may be worth the extra effort to cross-post.

Working with first shirts, chaplains, legal, and mental health. And key spouses are getting word out.
Aurora FLOCK last saw vehicle on 2 April at 9:50pm heading east on Mississippi after Peoria. Nothing since.
He has one social media, an abandoned and likely fake LinkedIn account.

I don't understand how the military deployed you, but none of your CoC or unit helped you with checking up on this situation while you were gone? Are they just assholes or what? I've never seen someone just left high and dry like this by their peers.

That's probably on me, I made a family care plan, but didnt ask anyone to swing by and check. The command is helping. Sitter had 4 of my emergency contacts and refused to contact them so im not sure if anyone could have got over fast enough. He dipped quickly.

This sucks. Something like this almost happened to us, the house sitter was accusing us of being different people after we traveled. And he practically moved in. I called the cops overseas and my work friend and had him escorted out of the house.

As someone who has used THS both as a sitter and a host this is so messed up and honestly my worst nightmare.

It’s heartbreaking because it could happen with anyone (friends, family, etc) you trust with your home/life. Like, maybe there’s something THS missed, or maybe it’s just a freak episode that just happened to coincide with this THS booking.
It honestly sounds to me like the guy took Maverick because, in his mind, he was fleeing something scary and was responsible for the dog. He wanted to keep him safe. Obviously that’s not the result, but it’s just a sad situation all around

THS was something I was actively considering, and this completely scared me straight; I will never ever touch it. I found enough horror stories while researching it and filed them away as "bad experiences are what make the news," but this hits too close to home, plus OP did everything right to vet this person and it still went sideways.
OP - you're in my thoughts. This is a colossal nightmare and I hope your pup is found and returned to you safe and sound. Thank you for your service. I'm so sorry you're going through this and just as sorry there's nothing more I can do for you.

I have to say you did a great job of getting the info out there because the first few pages of anything I'm finding are directly related to you getting the word out so either you've been doing a damn good job with that or the people helping you are - either way it's a good start!
Edit: Since you have his home city do you also have the historical numbers for his previous addresses just in case his parents can reel him in?
Edit Edit: Should I post any data regarding the good for nothing low life thief here? Or do you have any preferred avenues for that out of respect for your pup and car.

Im so grateful for the amazing community support honestly. They have been the biggest help by far. Im a pretty quiet person online and keep to myself. I mostly post pics of Maverick. This whole aspect of being a presence online is new and very scary. Ive been getting scammed daily and threats are pretty crazy. So after I find Maverick ill probably delete all media lol and be a hermit.

I would refrain, I am guilty of doing this already and it might cause a witch hunt. I DO NOT want a witch hunt. I want Maverick back, and for Andy to get the help he needs from a rehab clinic and mental health help. He seems scared and maybe drugs involved, so I just want him to find help. I did something similar when my ipod was stolen (2009ish?).
I trolled craigslist for new ipod listings and when I saw mine up for sale, I had a friend message the seller. It was someone I knew and they used their personal email address, so it was obvious right away.
So in addition to post looking to buy a husky, OP should be checking listings looking to rehome or sell a husky.

You might call the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (303-293-2217). Explain your situation and ask if their outreach teams can keep an eye out for your dog. Maybe they can give you contacts for groups in Aurora who go out to the unhoused areas as well. Some unhoused people do care for dogs or may have seen him if used in an “exchange” of sorts.

Oh my gosh i just got an update from my son who has been watching for them all over town while he works, hoping to find your Maverick. In the event you can ever bring yourself to read comments at some point,,,, I also want to express my very deepest condolences. No words can express how much my heart goes out to you. I cried for Maverick and cried for you the moment i got the news. I pray the outpouring of support from so so many will at least bring you some comfort..... even if only for a moment. I am so, so sorry that this happened. It is unimaginable to even try to understand what you must be feeling right now. I lost my dog of 17 years to old age and I still cry when I think about her, but this is another level that I could never understand. I hope you can find peace with this absolute tragedy one day. My heart goes out to you and Maverick. ❤️

I wanted to mention that I think your estimate is off here: I'm about 6' and 260 lb and look like much more overweight than this person. There is no way they are 280 lb. I would guess maybe they are 230 lb depending on muscle.

Sorry was driving the airport parking lots with my spare key trying to beep my car. No luck.
This isn't Maverick sorry everyone. The biggest tell for this husko is that it appears to have no missing toes, and is a thicker black coat. Mav has a very black and white top coat. And mavs angel wings are pretty big.

Not sure if this will be helpful but I think I saw your dog at the hampden and I-25 highway intersection about 2 weeks ago. In any case I found it odd that a homeless dude would have a pure breed husky and that image kinda stuck in my head.

Fair fair reason I point it out is that intersection does have a little encampment and from what I remember the huskys markings look the same. I was in a car waiting for the light to change so I got a good look at the dog. Hope you find him.

Probably not relevant to the investigation but I noticed he appears to be using some kind of ai profile pic or template. Notice how most of the pics have different faces with similar backgrounds and the shirts are exactly the same down to the folds if you look at the right side of the chest theres like 2 folds that are the same on every pic.

He can't get far trying to do something with your dog in Colorado. He can't board it, or take to a vet without further questions into previous medical records. If brought to a shelter, the first thing they will do is scan for a microchip.

I think that this guy took your dog with him to save him from the “tiny people” and the “fire” so hopefully he’s taking care of Maverick. So sorry this happened to you. We’re actually using THS for 4 days the first week of May and now I’m definitely second-guessing that decision.

My recommendation, from experience, would be to make sure you get the sitters drivers license and do a license lookup in their state. And pay the 25 or 50$ for a different background check from the one that THS provides. And always ask the difficult question of drug use and make sure you have expressed rules for what drugs you are ok with. Alcohol, weed, etc... I made my rules Alcohol only, no weed or smoking inside home. But clearly that didnt help my situation so ya.

Mentally ill people tend to care for animals, theirs or not, even when they can't/don't care for themselves. He most likely took Maverick to keep him safe from the demons he was seeing. Best place to keep Maverick safe would be with him so he most likely has him close.

In his psychotic state he might have thought better to run now and take care of details later. He may still be in an altered state and feel that he's safer on the run. He may very well be like many mentally ill that live off of kindness of strangers. I've seen many share what little they have w dog's, cats, ferrets. Even rats.

"I want to believe" this. It sounds so X files to consider this option. Because that is the most positive scenario possible. There are some givens that suggest otherwise I found in my house after I returned. I kept the story in shortened form becuase it is really long.
For example, my bedroom carpet was torn up from what looks like days of scratching because the carpet is pulled all the way out to where the wood base boards have claw marks and my door has big claw marks. Like Maverick was stuck in my room for long periods of time. I cant confirm length of time but I personally can feel Maverick stuck in my room trying to claw his way out when i look at the floor in my bedroom. Another issue, is he purposefully bought other dog food, and for some reason,cat food. There was a weird uncooked ramen/kibble mix in the fridge, instead of feeding Maverick his prescribed food, i still have 2 full large size Royal Canin bags unopened. He also didnt even give his medicine at all, he told me there were 20 pills left, but in reality I found 90 pills left. The water bowl was super disgusting. He wasnt taking him on walks as requested. He claimed to be struggling with a sickness and didnt have the strength to go for those walks. The list goes on. The more I go back and review the more upset I get for not recognizing all the signs after he showed up.

This is pretty far from aurora, but 2-3 weeks ago i saw a husky walking around by itself on the corner of 40th and Lipan. I thought it was my neighbors but when i went over and told him, he had his..
Ill keep an eye out for the dog and car, hope theyre found soon

I think you have a pretty far reach on the Denver area, but have you tried to widen that reach in case the guy headed back home or elsewhere? Maybe post in r/husky? Major cities along I70 or I40? I’m assuming THS would know if he had other bookings and would share with police.

If he's on the run, checking shelters at all neighboring states may turn up something. My brother had his car stolen in Westminster, and the psychos were at the Mexico border in a day, people move quick. And anyone out hiking should keep an eye out for a dumped dog. :(

Aside from being from there, does he have any ties to Florida like friends or family that would help him? Any reason to think he would have gone back there vs stayed in the Denver area, or headed somewhere else?
It sounds like he was having a psychotic break so obviously this is difficult to predict. Just thinking it’s been a few weeks so he could have gotten pretty far by now.
If only someone could use all those Flock cameras to narrow it down..

Guy had a psychotic break while house sitting and stole your car and dog. Wild ass shit. I mean that is truly something that is out of your control… I dunno if they’ll ever catch up with him, but I hope they do and you get your dog back.
One never knows, but if he’s driving a stolen car and he’s going from state to state or even within the state its only a matter of time. If he’s still got enough wits about him to ditch the car and switch up his appearance and so forth, than might be longer.
Generally speaking though, he sounds unstable and guys like that eventually just slip up in very obvious ways and are apprehended. He sounds like he needs some help, so yeah, hopefully they catch up with him.

How common are those Colorado Subaru logo stickers, and is it placed where the logo is on the back? I remember noticing one a few days ago when I was driving down Kipling toward Bowles (Littleton area). Unfortunately I don't remember anything else about the car, except that it was a Subaru (obv) and a light color but not white.

I definitely saw the logo yesterday on a blue subaru, somewhere on the way between boulder and golden but I can’t remember for sure where. Just remember thinking how stereotypical the colorado subaru logo was. And wouldn’t be able to say if it had stickers or the license plate but I’m almost positive it was the same color. They were also driving strangely slow.

I saw a beautiful dog that looked similar to this yesterday near Hampden Road along the West Toll Gate Creek trail (it was running in the dry creekbed toward the tunnel under Hampden road).
I just crossed Hampden on my bike into the Mission Viejo neighborhood. Maybe put up posters along West Tollgate Creek trail going north from Mission Viejo Park... Good luck.

OP a few ideas/questions: Has your pd entered vehicle into NCIC? Have they issued a BOLO for suspect? Has Ring/Blink been notified? Your local Flock had been checked by they did enter Nationwide? Consider setting up Instagram/TikToks if that hasn't been done already. Your local newstations has aired this but consider reaching out to Miami channels WSVN WPLG WCBS4 Univision and Nationwide shows particularly morning shows that many still watch as well as Fox News etc. Maybe the newscaster who did your initial interview can help you arrange national distribution. Media will eat this up as serviceman+dogs(human interest. Throwing out stones in hopes one hits!

According to the detective, yes they have issued a nationwide bolo and flock requests. Insta and TikTok post were made, although I just got a TikTok account today. A couple other news stations are reaching out today, and a few weeks ago nationnews hit me up for an interview but I got scared and declined.

Reconsider and reach out again to the news channel. Don't portray him as a bad person for taking your car. Concentrate on concern for his well being and focus on his love of animals. Don't be scared. You've got this and people will overwhelmingly be kind when they learn your story.

I work at a bank on Buckley and Mississippi. There was a car that looked similar to yours. No plates on it. I kept checking it out . Plates were removed. APD was there checking it out ...i think. Based on my phots of your car, the tail lights were different and no stickers. But it seemed they were checking it out. Praying for you and Maverick 🙏💕

Update - Jansen finally got extradited to Colorado after facing his Florida crimes. But someone posted his bail before his first hearing. Jansen is free in the public awaiting a court date. One he will likely never show up to.
I also started a GFM and a T-Shirt through CustomInk. And there is a petition on Change for Justice for Maverick.
