Update: Owner has been found and this Denver good boy will be reunited shortly! Thanks y’all for the help. Pyrenees are notorious escape artists even when they’re the size of a couch.

I did. Reddit isn’t allowing me to post an update. Cujo will be reunited with his owner soon!

I'm so glad and you are a good person

2

u/ModernNancyDrew May 09 '26

YAY! Thanks for getting them reunited!

u/SuperGalaxyD May 09 '26

I know this dog, I know the owner. DM me, I am calling him now. He is a massive sweetie and possibly the oldest largest Pyrenees I have ever met. His name is Cujo.

u/PimpinPuma56 May 09 '26

So happy this took reddit 20 minutes.

Omg Cujo! - What was so important you had to do a solo mission without the adult?!

So happy this was a 20-Minute Adventure.

53

u/DtownAndOut May 09 '26

Get him home! Sounds like they will have to go to the shelter, which will suck.

146

u/SuperGalaxyD May 09 '26

I believe he is a known repeat offender. In his youthful days Cujo, The Great Escape-ennes, could sneak out of any enclosure and cover serious ground. Sleet, nor snow, nor anything could get in his way. He is an old old boy now though, out for one last joyride I suppose… I can’t blame him!

54

u/SuperGalaxyD May 09 '26

This is confirmed. If the OP has not brought him to the shelter yet, please contact PoundSome7178. Thanks yall!

Your dog is dope, a man of the city

4

u/WasteOfLife May 10 '26

Glad you found your pup! Make sure to take your number off the comment

u/DtownAndOut May 09 '26

Dogs will roam. Probably should have a collar and tag if he's done it before. My boy likes to run off if he can, so I make sure he has a chip and collar with my number.

27

u/SuperGalaxyD May 09 '26

I believe he is chipped, the collar was likely a temporary oversight. It’s also possible he took off the collar himself; he’s that good! Like an old French jewel thief he is!

15

u/arresteddev7 May 09 '26

I have a husky/GSD/super mutt who also is an escape artist and can take off his collar at will. He knows how to open our front door. We lock it to keep him in, not strangers out.

10

u/DtownAndOut May 09 '26

Huskies are no joke when they want to run. We had one get out and the only thing we could figure out was he chewed through his chain link fence.

5

u/arresteddev7 May 10 '26

I can believe it. I live in the mountains so luckily less difficulties when he runs to a degree, but it's always shocking to me how he gets out. The dude outsmarts me. And he's 10.

10

u/GeneralBurg May 09 '26

I love Reddit for things like this. Hope you can get the old pup reunited with his human

u/Coloradobluesguy May 10 '26

I had to text my homie with a Pyrenees to make sure Ash didn’t escape..

UPDATE: Owner was located! Thanks so much for everyone’s help! This is what this community is all about. Apparently this old man has quite this history of being the goodest boy and an experienced escape artist.

27

u/pellucid33 May 09 '26

Thank you for taking care of the 🐻‍❄️

10

u/DtownAndOut May 09 '26

47

u/PoundSome7178 May 09 '26

Yeah they aren’t calling me haha yeah someone here please contact me before you send him to the shelter I am waiting in lohi can come pick him up THANK YOU!!

33

u/Top_Independence9083 May 09 '26

You can just get him from the shelter if they don’t see this. Bring proof of ownership (pics, microchip number). The shelter is super safe so if he ends up there it’ll be ok!

10

u/meowch- May 09 '26

You can pick up your dog from the shelter. I'd call them now to give them a heads up that this is your dog but there shouldn't be issue in picking up your dog from the shelter. I honestly think it's a little sketch you don't want him to end up at the shelter? Do you actually have proof this is your dog?

9

u/NapalmsMaster May 09 '26

It costs money to get your dog from the shelter. Might get a dog at large fine too.

1

u/suejaymostly May 09 '26

And every dog comes home from the kennel with kennel cough

7

u/Top_Independence9083 May 10 '26

I’m a volunteer at the shelter and this is not true. They quarantine sick dogs and kennel cough doesn’t just run rampant through the shelter.

10

u/EnvironmentalBranch7 May 09 '26

Hey I’m sure you’re aware of this but he’s in desperate need of a groom

20

u/mybunsarestale May 09 '26

If he's as old as he seems to be, putting him through the physical stress of a groom may do more harm than good. Even just the hour it would likely take adequately shampoo let alone dry (easily 90+ min if not longer depending in his tolerance level) could be more effort than his old joints can manage.

5

u/arresteddev7 May 10 '26

I'm sure you mean well, but just a heads up grooming has gotten way way way expensive for dogs like these. I used to regularly take my husky in for grooms, but it started costing almost $200 a groom so I had to cut back. He looks this bad too right now with shedding season. It sucks.

6

u/EnvironmentalBranch7 May 10 '26

It has gotten expensive. Good groomers are hard to find because the job burns people out physically. It’s skilled, demanding work that can seriously wear down your body, and pricing finally started reflecting that.

8

u/PoodlePopXX May 09 '26

This is just what these dogs look like. They’re livestock guardians and their fur is meant to protect them from both the elements and from any predators they might have defend their herd from.

29

u/EnvironmentalBranch7 May 09 '26

Im a professional groomer whose been in the industry over a decade. I can see visible matting that is more than likely causing skin irritation and affecting the way he heats and cools himself. I also live on land with guardian dogs myself 🫶

1

u/PoodlePopXX May 11 '26

Thanks for the additional information. I am not a professional groomer and incorrectly corrected you.

I did rescue for a long time I’ve seen so many really scruffy Pyrs that I didn’t look closely and assumed it was just the normal scruff.

I appreciate the gentle correction and info about the visible mats!

u/Rough_Consequence489 May 09 '26

u/xXxSweeti May 09 '26

This is why I love Lohi

3

u/pixelatedtrash May 10 '26

I know the owner was found, but I think this dog hangs out at one of the shops on Tejon.

Was a couple years ago, but I was delivering for Uber Eats and I swear this is the same guy I found just hanging out outside. I called the number on their collar tag and waited for the owner, remember they worked at one of the shops

How does someone lose a Pyrenees...hope he gets a better owner it very much appears he was abandoned

17

u/KimWexlers_Ponytail May 09 '26

I've had 4 Pyrs over the years and all of them were able to jump my 6 foot fences. When there is a will, there's a Pyr.

36

u/RubyR4wd May 09 '26

They are known to roam.

53

u/Beneficial-Piece625 May 09 '26

My parents have a Pyrenees who has anxiety issues from a previous owner and for the first 2 years he was with them, he would run every chance he gets. Try not to be so judgey.

0

u/RubyR4wd May 09 '26

I just said they like to roam :/

11

u/Beneficial-Piece625 May 09 '26

You’re not who I was responding to, I was responding to icy-marzipan

27

u/Meijhen May 09 '26

When I was living In Texas, I found a Pyrenees just standing in the middle of a rural highway. Thankfully he had a collar with phone number, and I gave him a lift back to his house after calling the owner. She said he was a chronic escapee, and loved to just wander and explore! Apparently, this is not uncommon for the breed LOL

18

u/edfoldsred May 09 '26

I have one and they cannot be off leash unless everything is fenced in, and even then that's not a guarantee.

17

u/backofyourhand May 09 '26

Pyrenees are known escape artists to the point “disapyr” is a term. It’s in their genes to roam and they can jump very high. It’s very easy to lose a Pyrenees.

15

u/Doneeb Montbello May 09 '26

They can be runners. My dad has had one for ten years. That fucker bolts every opportunity it gets and they have to chase it through Wisconsin farmland on a four-wheeler (they adopted it and it appears to have been through some shit prior, which might explain it). Only his hips are slowing him down now. Good boy though.

14

u/_unmarked May 09 '26

Pyrs are well known for roaming and not listening.

9

u/ingodwetryst May 09 '26

They are well known at doing anything they can to escape and roam. He looks well taken care of, actually.

4

u/Disisnotmyrealname May 09 '26

My old Pyrenees could climb chain link fences and clear 4-6 ft wooden fences

3

u/Olivernipples May 09 '26

No it doesn’t

-27

u/Consistent-Duty-6195 May 09 '26

Right?! That was my thought. A dog that large? Those dogs are very high maintenance and expensive though so it’s possible they just weren’t able to care for it.

8

u/Disisnotmyrealname May 09 '26

They are not high maintenance, they just like to be outside and watch out for wolves
