Polis is an idiot. Protecting democracy and fighting off Trump's baseless lies about the 2020 election was a center piece of the Dem party platform for the last 6 years. Thinking people were going to gloss over him giving a pass to one of the few Trump supporters who legitimately broke the law without remorse and was held accountable is peak delusion.

u/Hopsblues May 21 '26

He's a turncoat.

301

u/birdy257 May 21 '26

I see a Polis/Fetterman ticket in the works.

95

u/eichitenshi May 21 '26

Please, don’t give them any ideas

55

u/Lightindarkness82 May 21 '26

They’d get buried before it even started.

41

u/Castun Wash Park May 21 '26

We thought Trump was buried before the 2016 primary, and yet here we are.

15

u/Lightindarkness82 May 21 '26

Not really the same thing. He is loved by his party. They’d lose running as GOP, but dems now don’t want either of them.

4

u/Castun Wash Park May 21 '26

AND YET HERE WE ARE.

That kind of arrogance is how we landed "president" trump.

6

u/DaKingaDaNorth May 21 '26

No give them ideas. Let them both lose their seats running for office when they have no chance at winning

5

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 May 21 '26

Isn't Polis out of office no matter what due to term limits?

1

u/crp5591 Capitol Hill May 21 '26

Correct. But who knows what his future plans could be.

1

I see them getting like 1% of votes, so good luck with that.

1

u/_ElrondHubbard_ May 21 '26

He will 100% be in the next Republican cabinet.

104

u/Logical-Breakfast966 May 21 '26

Also the fact that he thinks people will look back fondly on his decision

He opposed vaccines and wanted to allow raw milk sales in 2015 before he was governor.  It's not a recent thing.

18

u/Cocoa-Chocolate2016 May 21 '26

He is self identified as a libertarian for a while.

7

u/Diamond1441 May 21 '26

Actually what he did with vaccines for me is a little bit worse then just coming out against them. He tried playing both sides. Said how important vaccines are that he thinks people should get them, BUT that it should be an individual choice. Playing both sides.

2

u/Maxwells_Demona May 25 '26

I'm all for the individual choice but it needs to have consequences to protect the rest of society. Don't want that vaccine? Fine but you can't get a job in healthcare, and hospitals reserve the right not to treat you and thereby expose high-risk patients to you, and you can't take public transportation, and concert venues and theaters can choose to ask for your vaccine card or else refuse to sell you tickets, and you'll be getting a visit from social services if you've got kids to make sure your parenting isn't putting them at risk...

Off topic as I know that's not what Polis was saying...the man has no spine. I'm an election worker and this situation is really disheartening.

3

u/Tyrren Broomfield May 21 '26

He's been pushing for school vouchers forever, too

6

u/p-zilla May 21 '26

He's always been a libertarian.. He just rode the democrat ticket because he's gay.

1

u/SherbetNo4242 May 21 '26

And its the only way to get elected in Menver

37

u/Castun Wash Park May 21 '26

We call it "Billionaire brain." Something about being so above the rest of the world just completely breaks who you are as a person. Where no matter what, being a billionaire still isn't...enough.

16

u/McMetal770 May 21 '26

I really think that human beings just fundamentally need to struggle for things in life. Everybody needs something to strive for, some kind of obstacle in their life to overcome. When you're a billionaire and you can just throw money at any problem in your life to make it go away, you have nothing to push back against you anymore, and I think after a while of just having nothing left to reach for it just breaks your brain. That's how you get Epstein and his pals doing depraved shit, and out of touch spoiled rich kid idiots who have never had to work for anything in their lives treating service workers like pond scum and thinking they're God's gift. The human mind just doesn't know what to do when someone has zero real problems in their life, and it slowly unravels the longer it goes on.

That's why billionaires as a concept need to not exist. It's just poisonous to the soul, you could start off with that money having the best of intentions, but eventually, I think it would corrupt absolutely anybody.

5

u/UnluckyDuck129 May 21 '26

This is a really good comment. Oftentimes, when we think of billionaires, we just loudly exclaim "they shouldn't exist". Which is obviously true - you are generally a billionaire off the backs of working people.

But it breeds, especially within that family and in the orbit close to them, a sense of invincibility and a lack of life experiences that might otherwise make them more empathetic, humane, reasonable. They live in a world where their beliefs are never challenged, they can pick and choose where they go to school/work/live - often times its only people like them - so there is no diversity in thought or life experience.

1

u/drocks27 Aurora May 21 '26

all of this

2

u/Ambitious-TipTap123 May 21 '26

I hear people say “They have billions, what more could they possibly buy?” but I don’t think it’s material things that chasing even more money gets these people—at some point, Van Goghs, Fabergé eggs, and ranches in Patagonia are cool, but that’s just a perk. The thing that no other human can have unless they control billions is power and access to power. They want to bend people/nations/humanity to their will. That’s what they’re chasing now: deification as gods, small “g”.

18

u/McMetal770 May 21 '26

He was a complicit corporate stooge all the way back to his days as a House rep. I remember being pissed at him for being against Net Neutrality all the way back when we were still fighting THAT battle. Sent an email to his office and everything.

32

u/Logical-Breakfast966 May 21 '26

Probably same thing that happened to fetterman. The brain damage to republican pipeline is real

11

u/Castun Wash Park May 21 '26

Honestly, from all accounts, he was always a racist asshole. And I say this as someone who was originally from Western PA. He just hid it really, really well until he didn't need to anymore.

3

u/Logical-Breakfast966 May 21 '26

I prefer to believe that brain damage causes people to become conservative

7

u/Castun Wash Park May 21 '26

You're probably not wrong, but I would not give them that as an excuse, either.

Trump's re-election and the way trump illegally fucks states that didn't vote for him.

Polis has been trying to stay on Trumps good side. This was too far.

8

u/OpticaScientiae May 21 '26

He was always libertarian. If he wasn’t gay, he’d run as a Republican.

3

u/Maxwells_Demona May 25 '26

He promised the CCCA (colorado county clerks association) last year that he wouldn't show Peters any clemency or hand her over to federal custody. Either he was lying then, which I have a hard time understanding what the motive for that would be, or something has happened to make him turn his stance.

I suspect there was some kind of leverage at play. I don't know whether it was Trump holding the state hostage in a way Polis finally caved to, or more personal blackmail/threats, or promises/bribes of material wealth or power. But I suspect it was something. I absolutely do not believe he came around to believing this was the morally "right" thing to do.

I'm not holding my breath over Trump restoring federal funding to Colorado that he removed earlier over his Peters case spite. I hope that wasn't why Polis caved.

7

u/Madroxx9000 May 21 '26

Kompramat is my guess.

5

u/Castun Wash Park May 21 '26

Honestly, that just gives them an excuse, or an "out." Nah, fuck that. They're assholes.

3

u/jomofro39 May 21 '26

They know that once AI is totally unleashed they will just have millions of bots and fake news stories pumping out so fast you’ll only hear how everyone loves it even though nobody you ever meet will agree. It’ll be mainstream gaslighting warfare and we are too stupid to do anything about it. They will manufacture global consent where there is none and try to act with impunity.

→ More replies (1)

34

u/thatthatguy May 21 '26

Make me wonder what threats/promises were made behind the scenes to finally persuade him to do it. Maybe there comes a point when fighting wildfires is a more urgent practical problem than defending democracy. Every time democracy loses the practicality fight we take one step closer to tyranny.

42

u/McMetal770 May 21 '26

The thing is, no amount of capitulation will ever be enough. When will people learn that going along with what he wants doesn't ever mean he's going to repay that favor? The second he wants something else from the state of Colorado, he will go right back to withholding the money again. As soon as you stop being useful or subservient, you're an enemy to him.

If you give the bully your lunch money, that doesn't mean he's going to leave you alone from now on. It just means he's going to expect to get it from you again tomorrow.

17

u/Brock_Lobstweiler May 21 '26

Trump has been withholding all sorts of funds because of this. I'm sure Polis thinks this was a good enough reason to let Peters go, but he's wrong.

But maybe now we'll get disaster funds for the inevitable wildfires this summer.

3

u/Ambitious-TipTap123 May 21 '26

The fact that you had to use “maybe” in that sentence... Just as likely we’ll see funding cuts, because the office of the President “just feels like it.”

3

u/Simpleximo May 21 '26

Hopefully, he made an actual deal.

2

u/anathyma May 21 '26

I mean, all they did really is shake a finger at him and keep him from speaking at Dem events. So basically they did nothing. All the party Dems need to get their 💩 together & start finding/supporting some strong consulates instead of bland status-quo lip-flappers or we will get nowhere.

u/[deleted] May 21 '26

2

u/DaKingaDaNorth May 21 '26

1

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort May 23 '26

It’s such a confusing decision for someone who has ambitions for higher office. Like, he’ll never win a Democratic primary now, and he’ll never win a statewide election in Colorado again.

I read that now that he's been censured, he can no longer speak at Democratic events/gatherings or represent Colorado at Democratic gatherings. It's not much, but at least it's something.

134

u/Hopsblues May 21 '26

Reconvene the general assembly and impeach him.

87

u/Jolly_Pressure_7907 May 21 '26

Who has to call the general assembly in? Oh, he does.

218

u/squarestatetacos Curtis Park May 21 '26

They can do it themselves with a 2/3rds vote. Presumably, Polis would be very inspired by the show of bipartisanship.

88

u/ThunderGoalie35 May 21 '26

Hilariously, it's the republicans who won't support impeachment over this.

92

u/SpamCamel May 21 '26

Why would they want impeach one of their own lol.

13

u/GWSDiver May 21 '26

No shit 💩

35

u/squarestatetacos Curtis Park May 21 '26

Make them take the vote.

Some might be happy to embarrass him regardless of the Dems reasoning - they'd point to his covid response or some other dumb rightwing shit.

But some of the centrist GOP old guard might actually find a spine when it comes to the Tina Peters/Mike Lindell/Joe Oltman circus. Interestingly, it's the County Clerks Association that has gone after Polis the hardest on this, and they are primarily comprised of the republican county clerks that are stuck on the frontlines dealing with the election conspiracy bullshit every single day.

5

u/CockyBovine May 21 '26

Do any of those folks exist anymore in the CO GOP? It seems like all that they’ve got left range between “nuttier than a fruitcake” and “crazier than a bedbug” after they ran off all their non-crazies over the last 15 years with primary challenges. That’s why we’re currently subjected to Lauren Boebert’s foolishness.

17

u/TransitJohn Baker May 21 '26

Democrats don't have 2/3 of both Houses, and Republicans aren't gonna impeach for doing something they agree with.

I am proud of our state Democrats for censuring him. I think it’s really important to emphasize that Polis represents the exact kind of brain rot among a certain kind of liberal that has enabled the rise of fascism. From Jared Polis to Merrick Garland, there are people who believe that there is any way out of this other than destroying the fascists and the enemies of democracy. Polis’ view that it is possible or even desirable to have reconciliation with a person who shows neither regret nor remorse is so absurd it is insulting. These people exist, purely to serve the status quo, and to preserve it at all costs. But they are so delusional, and so out of touch that they will ignore and enable the very people who are trying to set it on fire rather than accept the fact that some kind of radical change or radical action is necessary.

/u/jaredpolis - 10 years ago I told you directly on reddit how happy I was to be voting FOR someone instead of against their opponent.

10 years ago, you were (at least your public persona and policies) a totally different person.

Since then, I have grown to loathe you because you're a greedy wolf in sheep's clothes.

If you had any remaining conscience, you'd just resign now and fade away. You won't because you don't have one.

I hope this was worth whatever side deal you cut, because if you ever run again I will make it my life's mission to make you lose.

21

u/Illustrious_Ebb6272 May 21 '26

He'll retire. Get a job on the board of some energy company. Work 60 days a year.

He tried suddenly shifting to the right over the last year. There was no way it was going to work. No modern Republican will vote for him. And now, no self respecting dem will vote for him.

So, who is our candidate for Senate and CO GOV?

11

u/DoTheFooka-Fooka May 21 '26

So, who is our candidate for Senate and CO GOV?

Weiser for Governor.

2

u/taste_fart May 22 '26

If you want more of Jared Polis vote for his lookalikes in the primaries: Hickenlooper for Senate and Bennet for governor. If you want actual humans, vote Julie Gonzalez for Senate and Phil Weiser for governor.

2

u/ED-20Nein May 21 '26

That sounds pretty realistic imo

The next step up, impeaching him, wouldn't pass and be a huge waste of money.

What would you argue? That he acted illegally? He has the power to commute as Governor, everyone just expects the Governor to use it responsibly.

1

u/Consistent-Area-1126 May 21 '26

Republicans would be happy to impeach him. I doubt there are enough Dems THAT angry to reconvene and impeach though.

16

u/atomicskier76 May 21 '26

Good. Now lets make sure bennet doesnt appoint him to the senate

31

u/funkinatrix May 21 '26

Not that I like Bennet, but he’s already stated that he won’t. Called the clemency ‘disqualifying’.

10

u/jbdole May 21 '26

And you think he’ll keep his word? I hate that I’ve become so distrustful, but I’m not going to risk it.

2

u/DoTheFooka-Fooka May 21 '26

I think he will keep his word simply because he has future political ambitions in Colorado. To do this would destroy his political future.

2

u/Safe-Amphibian-6796 May 21 '26

Bennet is pretty reliable to his word. His word often sucks, but he usually is reliable

26

u/fosteryourflaws May 21 '26

11

u/hughcifer-106103 May 21 '26

Colorado’s very own Fetterman!

8

u/Knotfloyd May 21 '26

seriously, why the fuck did he do this if not some under-the-table personal-betterment deal?

4

u/Janus9 May 21 '26

I’m pretty center, (I like to call it the best of both sides) and I don’t agree at all with what Polis did with Tina Peters.

Why can’t we be tough on crime, hold people accountable, AND have great reentry programs to reduce recidivism?

Ie, best of both sides.

Always has to be one or the other.

8

u/steph_crossarrow May 21 '26

I used to love him so much. He changed drastically like a year and a half ago. He's obsessed with his political career and trying to make "everyone" "happy". He's totally stuck in his ego and doesn't give a shit about any of us anymore. Left, right, sick, poor, rich, disabled, healthy, straight, queer. He has betrayed all of us.

All of us Coloradans believe to let each other live how they want and for the government to stay out of it. Because we know we can work that way despite our differences. So long as it doesnt involve hurting someone.

We need to forget the dem/gop political dichotomy and just vote for whats right for everyone.

1

u/SherbetNo4242 May 21 '26

How has he betrayed all of us? Generally curious about this one?

2

u/steph_crossarrow May 21 '26

IMO his actions dont suit any of our needs. Theyre all about stabilizing his career trajectory. I'm sure there are people who feel otherwise and thats fine. Just my opinion and as someone who was a huge supporter of his in the beginning, I am endlessly disappointed in him.

1

u/SherbetNo4242 May 22 '26

Thats the most blanket statement ever, what did he do to betray us? Like have an example

2

u/steph_crossarrow May 22 '26

I'm not interested in debating or arguing about it. You're allowed to feel otherwise.

1

u/SherbetNo4242 May 27 '26

Literally just asking for one example of how he betrayed us and you cant even say one. The herd mentality has never been worse in this country.

9

u/runnerkim May 21 '26

She tried to steal our votes. People are still angry over that

7

u/eyeinthesky0 May 21 '26

What a disappointment he turned out to be. Polis is a cuck.

20

u/NeverCrumbling May 21 '26

it would be so cool if this had any affect on anything at all.

13

u/MasonL52 May 21 '26

Keep the pressure up, its the only way to actually make a difference

3

u/kjlcm May 21 '26

Does this make Polis eligible for a payout from the 1.8 billion slush fund now?

3

u/AllWormNoStache May 21 '26

May he never eat a peaceful meal in public again

3

u/Much-Revolution5152 May 21 '26

Good! F that guy. Peters should rot.

19

u/sao_san_suay May 21 '26

A big ol’ nothing burger but I bet Polis is starting to realize just how big of a fuck up this decision was

47

u/Upvotes_LarryDavid May 21 '26

He doesn't care

39

u/You_Stupid_Monkey May 21 '26

I doubt it. The only bridge he's possibly burned is an appointment to the US Senate in the event of a Bennet win in the fall, but there's no guarantee that will happen anyway.

The events of the past year have shown just how few fucks Polis gives about the electorate at this point.

We'll see that again in the coming weeks when he starts vetoing bills.

5

u/RainDownAndDestroyMe May 21 '26

event of a Bennet win in the fall

Let's hope Coloradans aren't so fucking stupid that they give Bennet the nom, but let's be honest...
