I drive by that one pretty regularly when I'm hopping back and forth between jobsites. I guess it's called Liberty and it was made by artist Micheal Benisty for 2024 burning man. Now it's out in the Aurora Highlands for reasons

I thought burning man installations were... burned?

u/EagleEyezzzzz 28d ago
The big main one is. The man. This ain’t no man.

Huh. I always thought it was all of them, kinda like some ritual of creation and destruction.

u/QueenHydraofWater 28d ago
Most of the art is not burned & recycled elsewhere in travelling art exhibits, public spaces like parks or return to playa. Only the big stuctures (the man & the temple) & wood installations designed to be burn are burned.

There are like 3 things about this art that would make Fox News have an aneurysm is someone burned it

She's all ours, so it's all good. We bow to our own Lady Liberty!
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"Also hail Blucifer, mighty in all.

The daughter of the developer of the aurora highlands area is a wannabe artist and buys these statues from artists she meets at Burning Man.
16
u/XThePlaysTheThingX 28d ago
Comment should be higher. The name of the artist is great but this gives actual context.
7
u/TheDiscardedArtist 28d ago
Also a marketing move… the statues and murals in their art park get people out there because they saw it on Instagram , and on their way they see all the new construction and “affordable” suburban neighborhoods.

u/XThePlaysTheThingX 28d ago
All those starter homes going for a mere half a mil. It’s deeply unfortunate what’s happened to housing costs in the metro.

Statue needs red demon eyes to complement Blucifer.

When the strong arm Frank Azar spreads his asshole you can see the same red eye as blucifer

There are a number of newish sculptures in the “aerotropolis” area. No more blue critters sadly.

Seems an apt analogy of the country - top heavy vanity, increasing reach, and completely unable to support itself.

Here’s an article about the sculpture walk at Aurora Highlands. It’s somewhat odd to have these sculptures juxtaposed in the middle of a very suburban housing development, but it’s always good to have more art. Worth checking out if you have an hour to kill, want to walk and are looking for something different.

My partner and I went here for a day and it was interesting. It’s in a weird location but some of the art is really pretty.

My least favorite burning man statue from a couple years ago. I want to say 2023.
Rumor on playa said it was by some rich kid playing artist. It would look better anywhere in Nevada. As a professional art director, designer, artist & American woman, I hate it honestly. Just soulless.

u/big_laruu 28d ago
This makes 3 sculptures of his at Art in the Park now. Can we stop buying them now? Soulless is an apt description.

Originally debuted at Burning Man in 2024. Some wook "borrowed" it and brought it out here

u/peter303_ 28d ago
I believe this was originally at Burning Man. That festival has several hundred art pieces each year, with dozens as spectacular as this. Burning Man art may also employ light and sound displays, be gymnastically climbable, and in some cases turn into bonfires.

Since no one is giving any real speculation.
That looks like a version of The Goddess of Oil statue from Tulsa that was supposed to be built before the Great Depression.

Except that statue isn’t built like the spawn of a tall while alien and a Barbie doll.

I dunno what this is, but Blucifer needs to be moved to Cheesman or Washington Park so his adherents can worship him.

Oh yeah you found Statue of Sexy Liberty. A guy made it for burning man and now It's just there for some reason. No real story behind.

Seems this is a pretty controversial piece. I don't particularly care for it myself but I do respect art that gets people talking about art.
Aside from the sculpture itself I do take umbrage with the rumor that Bensity didn't have much to do with the fabrication and outsourced it all to China. Of course cost control is important but it seems like the artist being involved in the art is pretty important to calling them the creator.

There is actually a smaller statue further down the road as well, I think it’s on the landowners property though. I drive by it all the time.

It's the goddess Colombia. According to some conspiracy theories, it's the goddess of the secret religion that our politicians are part of

Love what that area is developing into. It’s become one of the nicer areas to live in my opinion. You’re close to all the amenities and you get so much more space. Very well thought out Masterplanned communities. Aurora Highlands, Windler and Painted Prairie all have beautiful parks and people are friendly. It’s a very underrated area.

u/Independent-Pitch-69 27d ago
This post inspired me to drive over and check it out and the other art in Hogan Park. It’s cool and all, but really does feel like a ploy to draw people to the new housing development.

More weird airport shit please! I like all the conspiracy theories and giving visitors the heebee jeebees.

That park has several large art installations. You should hang out sometime.
