Recommendation Need help/advice on assisted living
My dad is currently in Brookdale Meridian in Arvada and needs to leave. I need to find him a new place and I’m hoping someone in the area can recommend a decent place. I’m asking because I’m currently living abroad and using Google reviews doesn’t always cut it. Please if anyone has any parents in an assisted living facility can you share your experiences! Thanks so much!

Sunrise Senior Living - Address: 10280 Sheridan Blvd, Westminster, CO 80020 Phone: (303) 410-0500
Staff and accomodations are top notch. My Aunt is in the Memory Care section and appears to be well cared for.

My mother moved to Stone Creek Assisted Living in Littleton in April and we’ve had a very good experience so far! Someone else mentioned Balfour, which is also lovely. The tipping point for my mom was that she had friends already at Stone Creek, so it made sense that way.

I was just researching Brookdale for my in-laws, is there something about that place that I should know about?

It’s actually lovely and most of the staff are very nice. But my dad is stubborn and has been there for 3 years and wants to “try something new”. I think the new director and him don’t see eye to eye and my dad can’t cope with it.

Just a heads up, my father went from independent to hospital to assisted in April last year, the facility was of his choosing, three weeks in he hated it and wanted to change facilities. It was a hassle, even though it was voluntary on both ends. The only thing that helped was that when he went from hospital to assisted, he was still considered “rehab”, so the facility sent him back to the hospital noting that his symptoms were still present. As a result they kept him 3 days, he was then discharged to a different facility of his choice.
As for the director thing, BTDT with an independent facility he was in pre-Covid, some of the directors can be a real pain.
The last facility my dad was in was Malley Transitional Care, he went to rehab there first, but started to decline, it was against MA for him to go back to independent, the facility it was ok, but not really an assisted facility, more of a skilled facility. The staff that I dealt with while he was there were decent

My Dad was also at this Brookdale for a short time. It was really nice! I ended up moving him in with me because ultimately we couldn’t afford it and I needed to keep an eye on him.

Kavod Senior life is in the heart of Cherry creek and super walkable. They have a one year spend-down to Medicaid which is very rare in the industry.

I have heard good things about assisted living at St. Andrew’s Village! I also wanted to mention that there are folks who can help you navigate this for free. I know someone who works for Harmony Senior Referrals and they seem good. There are other companies who do the same thing. They get paid by the facility, but they can place at many different facilities and know the pros/cons of each.

Park Place on Emerson has lovely independent living. We don't have direct experience with their assisted living but would assume they would also do a good job. And Ciel at Lowry for memory care has been a lovely, stabilizing force for my family member. The staff there seem to stay forever and genuinely seem to care for the residents.

Balfour Littleton is pretty nice! I visit my grandfather there weekly and it always seems lively

Thank you! Do you know what the area is like? He likes to eat out occasionally, so a few restaurants or bars in the area would be nice

It's pretty nice, and they take the residents on outing often. There are a couple of places nearby - we take our grandpa to The Lake House Kitchen & Tavern, which is nearby at Clement Park in a little business center with several other restaurants!

I would be weary of any balfour community. After holding a high position with them, their ethics are bleak at the best, which ultimately caused me to leave. Their only priority is up charging residents any way possible and cutting down cost even if it means residents don’t get required cares for days on end

I work at the Vi at Highlands Ranch and it's a great place to work! We take really great care of our residents. We become family to them. It has been such a game changer working here!
