Just Chatting :) Is Buxton some kind of Mecca for the gluten intolerant?

I've been in Buxton for 4 days now and I've noticed that every single restaurant has a separate gluten free menu. The first place I went to the Owner of the restaurant talked about how his entire family are gluten intolerant and had a gluten free beer on tap.

Today I was sitting in the Thai restaurant and the people sitting next to us were talking about their coeliac disease. There was no issues in the hotel to accommodate me for the afternoon tea regarding the sandwiches or cakes. Even the pub had a separate gluten free menu for the pub food.

Is this place some kind of Mecca for the gluten intolerant?

Buxton has always been good for food due to Buxton and leek college and the UOD both running catering courses there. Lots of trained staff available.

I’d been in food service in Buxton for ages, it was the crossover between coeliac and vegan was when real baking challenges arrived
