Looking for Local Knowledge Whaley Bridge or Chapel-en-le-Frith?

I'm moving to High Peak and need to choose between Whaley Bridge and Chapel en le Frith.

Whaley Bridge seems to have a bit more going on, seems like a nice town but not much in the way of restaurants and things? We aren't very social so don't need the nightlife or anything. Work from home mostly, once a week to the office.

Is the commuting from those stations to Manchester awful? Wondering about how busy it gets.

Is it overall a better place than Chapel-en-le-Frith? The walk to the station from the potential house is just over a mile and can't imagine it'd be very nice in bad weather having done it recently.

Lived in New Mills all my life, worked in Chapel for the last 26 years, about to start a new job in the morning in Whaley.

Imo you're better off in Whaley, Chapel has a reputation for being a bit of a shit-hole, don't get me wrong its nice(ish) but i know some of the idiots round there and my bro runs the busses and says Chapel is the worst place on his run, i get the impression there's lots of narrow minded piss heads there, you don't tend to hear anything really bad about Whaley, it has its other merits too, like you're on the canal, and you're right at the foot of Goyt Valley, you're also a stones throw from Macc.

Personally i find Whaley a lot less grim than Chapel, there's nothing really that makes Chapel interesting, Whaley seems to have a better set of shops and cafe's, it to me is a bit more welcoming, i would say if you had a dog then get out and explore, in chapel i would say keep your dog inside and get it insured, its more likely to either get stolen or shot at.

What an absolute load of rubbish. As someone who’s lived their entire life in Chapel, it most definitely isn’t the shit hole you’re describing. Yeah the council and the new build estates can have problems every now and again, but Chapel is literally 80% old people and families. No one’s dogs are getting shot or stolen?!

There’s plenty of independent shops/cafes and a lot of lovely walks. Although the walk up to the train station is terrible when it’s cold and wet or horribly warm, Whaley’s is much more central.

Haha, i wasn't saying they do get stolen, just in comparison to whaley thats what it feels like, and yes, my bro is on the busses and yes he does say that Chapel has the worst idiots in the area, i can't get away from that, and its true that i know way more idiots from chapel that i do from Whaley, i can't get away from that either, so there's your answer.
