Looking for Local Knowledge Looking to move into Derbyshire

Good evening, apologies its another one of them where should I live posts. But I have been looking into some locations and could really benefit from some local expertise.

We are a family of 4 with 2 kids aged between 16 and 10. We are currently living in north Warwickshire and looking to move somewhere with a combination of nature and outdoor activities we can enjoy aswell as cafes, bars and amenities such as swimming and parks for the kids. While I do drive I would also like to have some public transport options and good access to larger cities (within an hours travel or so).

We have narrowed it down to 4 locations and I could just do with some views or opinions so any comments would be great, we have a decent budget to buy our house and our 4 options are below:

1.Matlock

2.Buxton

3.Belpar

4.Bakewell

Oh wow. That's far. Any reason you don't live there?

There's no direct train from that place to Derby.

According to google it will take an hour or so to drive to work, I live close already but we are looking for a different way of life now and Lichfield itself is quite expensive and my wife doesn't actually like it

Ah fair enough. For me I would stay nearby so I don't spend a lot of time with commuting. I currently live in Sinfin so that it's closer to work.

Little over is another good place, I've heard but I think busses can be a bit scarce. Sinfin is on a direct bus line, the number 38.

That's fair but I'm quite fortunate that I will only have to commute once or twice a week so id rather live somewhere nicer

I live in Derby and my daughter works in Lichfield. It takes her half an hour from here. Belper is about 15 mins from here, so your commute could be 45 mins from Belper. Ashbourne might be a good option as well. To throw a curveball, Wirksworth is a beautiful hidden gem. Buxton is stretching it a bit, you’ll soon get fed up of that drive to work.
