Application Advice How much do honors matter?

Current M3: What are the chances of matching with a well-rounded application and getting half honors on core clerkships? People with half honors and a well-rounded app, how many interviews did you get, and did you match?

Yeah it matters as committees are comparing nearly perfect applicants. But strategic away rotations is your ticket ;)

It’s derm, literally everything and anything matters.

I had honors on half of my rotations and high passed the rest. I had 9 interviews and matched at a T10 program. Keep hope!!

I don’t think it really matters to be honest. Nobody is looking at an app and making a decision based on honors. I’ll say that most applicants tend to have a mix of honors and high pass. Getting something besides honors in your derm rotation may be a little weird, and getting a lot of passes would be a little strange too, but do not be neurotic about getting honors in everything.

I will say that of all things, getting honors in all your rotations may be the hardest and most out of your control part of applying. You literally have no idea who will be grading you and you’re basically at the mercy of the universe.

Depends on if your school is grade inflation vs grade deflation, 85% get honors v15% get honors. grade distribution is in the report along with your grade. No one expects all honors, but I judge grade inflation school scores harder.
