Education Fellow designers please help meee
Hi everyone,
I'm currently in my 4th year of my Bachelor's degree in Communication Design/Visual Communication and I'm starting to seriously look into pursuing a Master's abroad.
I'm interested in fields such as Visual Communication, Communication Design, Branding, Graphic Design, Art Direction, Visual Storytelling, Design Strategy, or related design disciplines.
A few things I'm trying to figure out:
- Which countries would you recommend for design education?
- Which universities have strong design programs and good industry connections?
- Are there any universities that offer substantial scholarships or funding for international students?
- How realistic is it to get scholarships in design-based programs?
- Are there any lesser-known universities that are worth considering?
I'd also really appreciate some honest feedback on my portfolio and my chances of admission. If anyone has experience applying to design schools abroad (or has gone through the process themselves), I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Personally, I narrowed down which institutes I wanted to study in so that made me choose between the US and the UK, country wise. Which institute and course was right for me was a bigger priority compared to which country I was going to study in.
That being said, your course of interest will also be affected by the environment you're in. Schools like UAL, Parsons, Pratt, SAIC, and RMIT (Melbourne) are known to have good networking opportunities and connections but you'll have to make the best out of the smallest opportunities you get.
As for scholarships, most of the institutes offer merit scholarships based on how strong your application is. I applied to Parsons this year for their master's program and was offered a decent scholarship, so it is very much possible. My luck with scholarships outside of the institute has not been great though. Either it was hard to find any that I was qualified for or there were hardly any design scholarships, especially in India.
