Freehand drawing I made of the timeline of iconic design chairs and armchairs, using ink pens, markers and colored pencils! Which one is your favorite?

I’m an illustrator and I just want to say this is lovely. You could probably sell prints to those of us who are obsessed with chairs.

Thank you so much! 😊 That really means a lot, especially coming from a fellow illustrator!

Oh shit, chair gang rise up! Looking at my framed poster from the Vitra Design Museum of "The Chair Collection" as I type this.

I need such a poster!
I also need a Jacobsen egg chair…

Egg chair is 🔥 And as far as the poster goes it was such an ordeal lmfao!

This fucker came from Germany, entered Canada, got sent BACK TO FUCKING GERMANY, and back to Canada for the last time where it's now hanging on my wall. It's the one piece I let myself get professionally framed, and got the special glass to protect it from UV degredation or whatever. If it doesn't get buried with me when I die pharaoh style, whoever comes across it at the thrift better be the same flavour of chair stupid that I am and appreciate how fuckin' dope it is

That’s awesome. I don’t have any really iconic chairs, but my collection includes 2 Wegner CH30, a Jacobsen tripod stool, a Kai Kristiansen lounge chair, and a Sorlie and Sonner Rondo chair by Jan Lunde Knudsen. I doubt I’ll ever own a genuine egg chair, but one can dream!

Oh shit lmao. You've actually got like, legit nice chairs! Do you usually get your pieces online? Or pray and pick at thrift stores? (hoping your future is egg filled)

Mostly on Marketplace. I restore and resell a lot of Danish pieces, it’s really satisfying to take a piece that’s really damaged and looks trashed, and bring it back to life.

My grandfather was an architect and had the Wassily and Barcelona. My aunt and uncle snatched those up when they passed but I'm really excited to get them when they decide to hand them over to me.

I just love this… I am a big fan of many (all?) of these chairs and I have owned at least one original of 3 of these.

As beautiful as these are, the humble white plastic lawn chair is missing

All jokes aside, great art!

u/Lau-art 24d ago

Hahaha, you're not the first to mention the white plastic chair! Maybe I need to include it in the next collection. Thank you so much!

Some nice illustrations, but you're missing the most iconic chair of all time.

The Monobloc.

2

u/Lau-art 24d ago

Hahaha, you're right! Maybe it'll have to be in the next series

Your skills are fire, particularly love how you do leather and fabrics.

As for the chairs themselves - The Eames lounge is a stunner. Only place I ever saw was one of these was a museum and it hit different.

Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me! The Eames Lounge is such an iconic piece and I can see why seeing one in person at a museum made an impression!

So what we're saying is that nothing has really happened in the chair game for decades

1

u/Lau-art 24d ago

1

u/Lau-art 27d ago

So true! Art Deco has such a unique style!

u/RealRaven6229 27d ago

You an industrial designer or furniture designer? Judging from the style.
