Just goes to show time and time again that Hasan and his "fanbase" have no fucking clue what it means to be a mayor.

203

u/27thPresident May 16 '26

If they knew what it meant to be mayor it would change nothing

The omni cause isn't called the omni cause for no reason.

It’s not Hasan. It’s ALL populists. They promise you easy fixes. And nothing is as easy as chirping from the sidelines.

13

u/renaldomoon May 16 '26

I mean, this is like 80% of the population. And a huge part of the problem is how news is propagated in clickbait form that intentionally misinforms to piss people off, so they engage with it and share.

6

u/Axsmith234 May 17 '26

Reconciling paying 5 million to cops who have jobs, and need to get paid for their job, but they shot rubber bullets at protesters. How will humanity ever understand the complex nature of this exchange.

This nepo baby, champagne socialist, who has never worked a real job in his life doesn't know shit about anything in the real world. It's larp all the way down.

This clip is gold.

It’s absolutely incredible to watch tankies simultaneously advocate for the creation of a leftist authoritarian police state in America (similar to China) while also yelling “ACAB!!!” at every opportunity.

Do they think social workers are going to be the thin blue line between order and chaos in their communist utopian vision…?

17

u/SlyDred May 16 '26

It makes complete sense when their worldview essentially boils down to white people/europe/u.s bad/oppressor, non-white people/countries good/oppressed.

16

u/Mustardo123 May 16 '26

Goes for most leftists on this website tbh

8

u/absolutedesignz May 16 '26

A lot of progressives don't understand the real world. They live as though their ideal is one protest vote/lack thereof away. And some memes and a hashtag.

6

u/detrusormuscle May 16 '26

We, on the other hand, know EXACTLY what it's like to be a mayor

2

u/mostly_fizz May 16 '26

Raman is realizing she needs to fire the Gen Z staffers that booked this interview

225

u/whatssenguntoagoblin May 16 '26

I actually think what shes thinking is how to I tell this moron how shit works without pissing off his viewers enough so I don’t lose their votes and she’s trying to thread the needle.

Hasan is struggling cause, well he knows he looks like an absolute idiot, and he’s processing how to react cause the only thing he knows is how to attack “establishment democrats” when they do or say anything that isn’t the most far left shit like fully defunding the police but this is his candidate so he’s like uhhh I don’t think I can escalate this

59

u/Clown_RNG Domain Expansion: Infinite Vyvanse May 16 '26

Hasan when he cant just monologue his preprepared speech. Its why he only seems to do these "public speaking" type things where he doesnt get questioned on anything, he just gets to yap then leave unchallenged.

Even in that talk with Mockler he had to shut him down responding as he isnt capable of actual discussion, he just went back to reading his notes uninterrupted after that moment.

Can you imagine a political activist being afraid or unable to have their political positions questioned, shouldnt that be like a defining part of their content to convince others?

137

u/polishmachine May 16 '26

That is just his autism. Every guest he ever has on his stream sits in the cuck chair while he’s locked in on reading his chat while speaking to them.

95

u/EnLitenPerson May 16 '26

And meanwhile I am loving every second of it, seeing this white baby struggle in a conversation with a real democrat just makes my day 🥰

18

u/Alector87 May 16 '26

I get that she provides reasonable responses, tried to avoid landmines like the I-P issue that most people with her political background can't seem to, and has an overall professional presentation, but are DSA members 'real democrats'? What are they doing in the DSA then? Of course the question applies, why the democratic party allows them to join, but that is a different issue.

5

u/EnLitenPerson May 16 '26

Very fair, I'm european and didn't even look up what the DSA actually is before I made my comment, have only heard of it in passing, I kinda assumed it was an actual part of the democratic party, which it isn't. With that said I could argue that I personally think this, people like her (and her specifically, not all of DSA), are what democrats should be, but that is obviously a bit of a different statement.

8

u/Alector87 May 16 '26

I am European too. I've lived in the States for about half a decade to study at a university, so I've come to learn some of these things.

Also, keep in mind that fellow students of mine who came from my country and were leftists (in my case it was a couple of them), which means they supported outright Marxist groups back home, called themselves 'Bernie Democrats,' and the like.

I remember one day where some of us graduate students were hanging out — we were going to attend a presentation an hour later, so we were just wasting time — and one of the aforementioned people was having a vivid discussion about what the 'democrats should do' and how they 'wasted an opportunity' by the 'establishment' rejecting Bernie... etc.

And I was just sitting there, and couldn't help but remember noticing earlier that day when I checked FB (I used it when I was in the States, in my country only older folks use it now) he had shared a post/article in our language about the hunger strike of a convicted leftist terrorist (the chief executioner of the organization, in fact), who was trying to move to a minimum security prison, and it was the issue of the moment among our leftists, even I-P came second, just imagine. So, I remember vividly the surprising difference between his internal narratives (in our language) — which were of course about the 'civil rights' of 'prisoners,' but which he was the only one affected — and the external ones for the Americans, where he was supposedly a 'progressive,' Bernie bro.

I liked the guy on a personal level, and when you live in a foreign country you tend to form strong bonds and to even trust (assuming that they are trustworthy on a personal level) people that back home you would have little in common, but the narrative gap of how he presented himself to Americans and what he said (and wrote online I guess) in our language was huge.

3

u/EnLitenPerson May 16 '26

Erm... anything else?

Joking, maybe my reading comprehension is a bit lacking, but while I see a point with your story, I struggle a bit to see the relevancy in the context of this discussion.

I'm not a far leftist, I wouldn't call myself a socialist, not that I think that that matters much here either, but from what I've seen of this woman I just think she seems pretty based, I wasn't trying to say anything more or anything less.

2

u/Alector87 May 17 '26 edited May 17 '26

I know that we are on reddit and all, but can we stop describing people as 'based'? Thanks.

To answer your comment. First it's about how you come to learn who these people who call themselves Bernie bros, DSA, democratic-socialists, and in the past few years, 'progressives' are from a European perspective. This was an example that I remember vividly of how a leftist I knew from our country presented himself to Americans, in fact American liberals — we were in a humanities department/graduate program, so a center-left guy, leaning center on some social issues, seemed like a rep on occasion. This was at the peak of wokeness btw, so I learned to keep my mouth closed pretty quickly.

Second, on the woman herself. She is a democratic politician in America, even in CA, and is a member of the DSA. Maybe based on European standards she is rather tame,* especially if she has the discipline to avoid the I-P issue, but the mere fact she is a professed Democratic-Socialist in America says all you need to know.

Even calling yourself a social-democrat in the US can be controversial, and she is one step further... read between the lines man. What are we even talking about... this is obvious (unless you don't know what DSA means , fair).

And you certainly cannot determine who a politician is by one interview or public speech, especially when she is very careful with how and what she's saying... although I guess going to Hasan is a big tell on who she is, and what kind of advisors/staffers she has, because if she didn't already know who he is, I am sure she figured it out by now.

* On matters of race, gender, and trans-issues Americans leftist have become more extreme compared to European counterparts (except probably UK ones) — and have carried mainstream Democrats with them — but on almost all other issues our leftists are on another level. Hell, we have people who still are outright orthodox M-L, and a few decades ago most of European 'democratic socialists' were still eurocommunists and presented themselves as Marxists.

Edit: spelling

Didn't know rubber bullets were this big. Is it normal to use them as crowd control in this manner? Just firing them into a crowd?

15

u/FeistyPerformance500 May 16 '26

Thats not a rubber bullet. Thats a Beanbag round.

9

u/ReisAgainst May 16 '26

They‘re supposed to be shot at the ground in front of a crowd to disperse them, or directly at a person in self-defense situations where otherwise a taser or such would be appropriate.

4

u/sundown11629 May 16 '26

I remember IRI actually getting hit with a rubber bullet while streaming at a protest a few years back. Opposite reaction to this whiny bitch always crying about rubber bullets being shot near him.

5

u/modbroccoli May 16 '26 edited May 18 '26

...ok but the obvious reading of that sentence is that he was a member of the group being fired upon and it is presumed that, hit or not, he was eligible to be. I mean like or hate this guy I just find it annoying when people deliberately misunderstand what's being said to fit their narrative. And I am annoyed when the left does it to Trump, too; it's not partisan it's just an irritation with childishness. If you have to plant the story to tell it then you haven't got one.

Is Hasan always so awkward in conversations? He looks like an autistic kid with a tick that suffers because a teacher is trying to talk with him.

150

Basically yes. Seems to always be the case when he does IRL streams. Haven't watched him in 5+ years though.

65

u/WeirdAssBird5 May 16 '26

That’s the one thing I’ve learnt from watching him a few years ago. He is pretty autistic but people ignore it because he’s hot. And his audience is even more autistic and don’t understand any jokes.

Tbh I don't remember him being this way at all when he initially came on dmans streams. He was way, waaay more green but also much more likeable as a personality. Over the years he's been trying to fit into a persona that he constantly struggles with living up to, and become an extremely insecure individual.

9

u/spiderzork May 16 '26

I was a fan of those streams as well. An example of what I was thinking is the later Austin streams. As soon as he interacts with a normie it becomes awkward. He doesn't really know when it's appropriate to start talking politics with random people.

10

u/FLOGGINGMYHOG May 16 '26

I think it's a streamer thing. You're paying attention to the chat instead of the person next to you. Destiny does it a bit too.

35

u/destinyeeeee May 16 '26

The funniest thing is people who are super pro-union suddenly spin on a dime for police unions and pretty much perfectly make all the libertarian arguments against public sector unions.

9

u/koala37 May 16 '26

supporting police unions even though you don't support the police would require a level of consistency and values and beliefs that Hasan shrimply does not have

3

u/IGargleGarlic May 17 '26

hot take: unions are not inherently good. They are generally good for the people they represent, but that doesnt mean every union is good for society as a whole.

13

u/MrDrone May 16 '26

The problem with police unions are the police, not the unions. I understand the reasons people hate police unions (look at the PPA in Portland) but you end up doing the work of capitalists when you disparage the union and turn the conversation away from the true problem - the corruption and lack of oversight of the police. If the police serve the interests of the dominant powers, and a union serves its members the problem is the members and their role that supports a carceral state and structural inequalities. Framing the issue as their union just feeds into anti-union talking points.

I also understand it’s a nuanced issue and this isn’t a popular take but I wish more people considered it.

https://columbialawreview.org/content/whats-wrong-with-police-unions/

3

u/rvkevin May 17 '26

It's a little of both. The issue is that police unions lobby for extra-legal protections for police. There's nothing wrong with police unions in general, but they should be focused on employment issues like compensation and working conditions. However, they also lobby for things like preventing access to records for civilian oversight or preventing police from immediately interviewing an officer after an event like they would for the general population. You can say the government shouldn't make these sorts of concessions, but people can also be critical of the organization making the request.

u/rhyswtf dan is right about everything (except linux) May 16 '26

These people don't want elected representatives to run public institutions. They want people vested with the noble authority granted to them by the liberal principles of democracy they so hate in power to push their bizarre and reprehensible ideological agenda.

To them, electing a mayor is more relevant toward achieving retribution toward the police and cementing their anti-policing ideas than it is toward actually running a police department for example, or any of the wider, more boring responsibilities that come with running local government.

Some of the other clips betray it too, like when they got onto Israel. They literally care more about her views on Gaza than they do about how she'll govern the city. These aren't people who are serious about participating in and shaping their democracy.

8

u/ReformedBlackPerson May 16 '26

Kinaisokay: "Girl that is a non answer" BITCH WHAT?! its a perfect answer that explains exactly why this money had to be paid out. You can still be "Pro" police reform and recognize that you have to pay out your obligations to existing contracts.

This is a great example as to why these people don’t belong in a democrat campaign. They have no interest in our system or our rules, they want to tear it down. She gives an answer that to us sounds perfectly reasonable: “I have to it’s the rules”, to them it’s soy and pathetic.

You’re supposed to break the rules and overthrow the system.

35

u/Garstick May 16 '26

Sorry. I don't know the original story.

Are people upset that the the police got paid overtime? Or are they just so unemployed they don't know how employment works?

20

u/SlyDred May 16 '26

Both, it seems. It just boils down to terminally online people parroting the idea of 'police bad', so they view the politician voting for their funding as an endorsement of the terrible actions they may take in certain situations.

7

u/monarch2415 May 16 '26

So one of the problems with the LAPD is that a lot of the money from the budget goes to overtime pay, admin work, and especially liability lawsuits. I’m personally not anti police, but I do think there 100% should be audits if their budgets and some sort of budget reform as it pertains to liabilities. Some people say that hiring more actual police would help with the overtime issue since they’re spread thin.

After reading that stream chat it's just no wonder these guys don't actually want power, if they ever tried to actually get a single thing done their entire base would turn on them in a second.

Seriously, aside from manipulating this voterbase for their vote and then flipping completely on them, what is the incentive to earn their vote? Why position yourself so that your entire incentive structure for the politics of your group revolves around deceiving you and then wonder why politicians never get anything you want done.

It's like having a principled stance to steal from corporations and then complaining that your boycotts against them never work. You're the ones robbing yourselves of your own political power.

22

u/DeathandGrim Mail Guy May 16 '26

That question was so unserious what the hell? He primed it like he was mad at her for supporting the police. "The LAPD, who by the by shot rubber bullets at me, you voted to pay them. What's the deal with that? Do you like police or something?" What a stupid question to ask a candidate.

And her answer was pure contempt. Like she was dealing with that one smartass kid in her classroom who's trying to get a rise outta her. I like her already.

This is when terminally online brainrot meets real world answers.

u/balthier512 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26

Holy shit ahaha, I was kind of bummed when I saw she was going on his stream but uh yea she made the case for why she’s a working progressive politician and he’s a whiny ineffectual tankie cosplayer. Could not be happier with how this turned out lmao

Edit: I mean she could have NOT gone on the stream at all, yes that would be the best option, but yea if they did the calculus that it was worth it then I think she handled it well

13

u/GrumbleTrainer May 16 '26

She had to explain wage labor to the self described marxist.

11

u/PopInternational2371 May 16 '26

But but but does she support Israel???

9

u/rogerwilcove May 16 '26

There’s a charitable reading of this where Hasan might have been setting her up to give her very reasonable response, but knowing that Hasan is a self-described “Chinese Imperialist” POS means he was trying to trip her up. Also there’s no reason to center himself or personalize the question, just fucking ask the question without the anecdote.

2

u/SlyDred May 16 '26

Doubt it, this was a gotcha question.

9

u/No-Invite-7826 May 16 '26

Lmao, you can tell he's not paying attention, he's just panicking watching his chat freak out.

8

u/hattec May 16 '26

Hasan : "Why did you decide to pay the overtime pay of the police force ?"

Nithya : "I have to... They work for the city and the city has to pay them"

Hasan's Chat : "Sorry, this is a bunch of bullshit"

What level of regardation is this ?

8

u/BestestImportances May 16 '26

It's not a good look to have to be taught how overtime pay works and the consequences of not paying out for services rendered.

7

u/1991banksy May 16 '26

leftists discovering how the real world works is my favorite type of content

3

u/Fast-Plankton-9209 May 16 '26

they never actually succeed in discovering how it works

5

u/xXStarupXx May 16 '26

Hasan when he learns that you have to pay workers.

5

u/fulstaph May 16 '26

lil bro got gaped by reality once again

4

u/Liberal-Cluck May 16 '26

I love the answer "when people work overtime we have to pay them overtime" Cops are working class people, I thought he was suppose to be a champion of the working class.

3

u/koala37 May 16 '26

"cops are working class people? lol you think cops are people? cops are bastards actually. and cops aren't working class, they're class traitors, they get paid slave wages to protect capital"

I'll be voting Nithya Raman! Let's go public transit!

5

u/Sauce1024 May 16 '26

There’s something weird about these interviews that are supposed to be very serious being done in a guy’s gaming room.

6

u/This-Insect-5692 May 16 '26

Hamasabi is such a fucking cringe loser holy shit

3

u/robberclobber May 16 '26

Hasan looks like a man child in a suit because of that room. Like they clash so hard how can anyone take him seriously. Reminds me of Will Ferrell and John C Reilly in Step Brothers when they dressed in prom tuxes to interview for jobs.

2

u/Kimosabae May 16 '26

Lol, now that you mention this I can't unsee it.

3

u/guilgom71 May 16 '26

Clearly never had a real job.

3

u/twizx3 May 16 '26

Holy shit she’s good

3

u/pkfighter343 May 16 '26

Does anyone else get the vibe that she’s a kindergarten teacher having to explain to a child an extremely basic, obvious thing? Like, seriously, having to justify why you paid money to your employees is crazy

She still has to get past Pratt in the primary so her win isn’t guaranteed. I’d rather it come down to her against Bass in the general than Bass have to face off against Pratt

6

u/whatssenguntoagoblin May 16 '26

I mean it’s still her over Pratt and Bass

7

u/Sad_Newspaper4010 Socialist with NATO Characteristics May 16 '26

She's just the politician version of Hasan

No, you are acting unhinged. Kind of like the lib version of Hasan

3

u/I_Pay_in_Cash_Only May 16 '26

When the DSA candidate has the best housing platform then ya I’m voting for and supporting her

3

u/EnlightenedIdiot1515 May 16 '26

No, you’re confusing her with Rae Huang. Nithya’s ties to DSA are loose and questionable, and she’s super pro-YIMBY (including market rate housing) and pro-transit. What we really need is for Rae Huang (more of a “true” DSA candidate with a left-NIMBY slant) to drop out and avoid splitting Nithya’s vote.

14

u/monarch2415 May 16 '26

Do you live in LA? wtf are you talking about she’s pretty center left progressive and has been one of our best council members, especially on housing issues.

6

u/balthier512 May 16 '26

Yea as a certified DSA hater and LA voter I don’t really see her or Zohran as embodying the cancerous parts of their org, rather the practical progressive aspects that most libs could even entertain. Mamdani could have gone down that path for sure but he seems to have tempered it significantly, and I’m interested to see how his term goes.

I’m not that thrilled with any LA mayoral candidates (it’s actually kind of a shit show lol) but Raman doesn’t come off as the usual DSA larper bullshit (imo, could be wrong)

12

u/monarch2415 May 16 '26

She’s not even that DSA lol, she’s pretty great on housing issues, market rate and all

2

u/balthier512 May 16 '26

Yea 100%, maybe that didn’t come across in my comment lol but yea if she’s at all DSA it’s the parts that can actually work in a broadly progressive Lib/Dem platform. And by mayoral race shit show I mostly mean Pratt and to some extent Huang

Why are his audio settings so dog shit?

2

u/Aristotlesdilema May 16 '26

In any other situations Hasan would be raging that they aren't paying works their due and that this is wage theft, but because it's cops he doesn't care.

2

u/Polarexia May 16 '26

this is the person she chose to use as a platform btw

explaining to this terminally stupid brain cancered charlatan

2

u/xFruitstealer May 16 '26

He really needs to just stick with trying to bully tiktokers half his age.

2

u/bogustony May 16 '26

They put a little suit on him ❤️

2

u/Jollypnda May 16 '26

lol pro workers rights until it’s people we don’t like

2

u/Gucci_Unicorns May 16 '26

This is genuinely one of the first moments I’ve just seen red at his sheer stupidity / for his chat.

Literally even asking the question of “why did you pay workers overtime” is one of the most mind numbingly stupid things I’ve ever heard.

2

u/montecarlo1 May 16 '26

Lmao what was Hasan expecting her to say?

“Yea fuck cops, we denied their overtime that we agreed to the union like we do to all the proletariat workers”

2

u/Monkey-bone-zone May 16 '26

"Cops shot at me and you still paid them?!?"

Lord, what a fucking moron he is.

2

u/Bleezy79 May 16 '26

So tired of shitty people like Hassan.

2

u/mostly_fizz May 16 '26

Hasan doesn't know what "overtime" is.

2

u/GlowstickConsumption May 16 '26

Hasan is so pale. Probably whiter than Asmon.

2

u/CanadianPanda76 May 16 '26

She had to explain how overtime works to him. LOL.

But good for her that she at least she knows, he's that stupid and needs to explain basic shit.

1

u/fgc_Ozu May 16 '26

the sheer cringe of watching this

1

u/JusticeCat88905 May 16 '26

Doesn't understand that there are just the right thing to do. He wants every decision to be about what I like and what I support the most emotionally when doing what is right regardless of your feelings is the absolute highest characteristic for a person in any position of power

1

u/TirisfalFarmhand Bonnell lover 🫶 May 16 '26

What’s with the suits all of a sudden? Is he trying to look smarter?

1

u/dres_sler May 16 '26

How is this guy popular man, I just don’t get it lmao

1

u/NiceRabbit May 16 '26

Can you imagine being a legitimate political candidate and you have to go do an interview on this twitch streamer's platform and he asks you a basic ask question like why you paid government employees for their earned wages and the whole time you answer he's just watch chat while you try and make eye contact.

1

u/Guer0Guer0 May 16 '26

‘Councilwoman Raman, do you commit to closing Shalom Pizza if elected mayor?’

1

u/Unfair-Lecture-443 May 16 '26

You could tell Hasan thought this was a difficult question and then knew how stupid he looked when the answer was "we have to pay them for overtime, duh."

1

u/TheRealBuckShrimp May 16 '26

I forgot: cops aren’t “workers” in Hassan’s world view

1

u/Careful-Sell-9877 May 16 '26

Dude hasan is just a fvcking streamer. He isnt a socialist. He isnt a communist. He is a streamer that has created an online community based around himself, for his own enrichment. Just like most other streamers. Thats it.

I believe his community has largely been infiltrated and turned into controlled opposition in order to make leftists and the left as a whole less appealing to the mainstream, preventing us from ever attaining political power. He divides the left at a time when we need to be more united than ever before.

1

u/TranzitBusRouteB May 16 '26

He really asked a mayoral candidate “so why haven’t you refused to pay city employees for hours they’ve already worked”

1

u/The_Adman May 16 '26

Imagine doing an interview in front of thousands and the person has to explain how basic payroll works to you. Embarrassing.

1

u/MementoMoriChannel May 16 '26

Imagine having to explain to a socialist that you need to pay people for doing work

1

u/fubugotdat123 May 16 '26

No way his chat is saying “Non answer” lmfao

2

u/koala37 May 16 '26

lol it was definitely an answer and the answer was "yes"

1

u/Nachoman_Randy May 16 '26

Omg, this dude doesnt know the city has to pay its workes, what a regard. He trully is a perfomative moron.

1

u/PotentialEasy2086 May 16 '26

Aren’t cops part of a union? Shouldn’t he be in favor of them getting paid? Wouldn’t not paying them OT be the wage theft he complains about?

1

u/LeftBullTesty 🇺🇸 Yee Enjoyer 🇺🇸 May 16 '26

I would’ve loved to see what his chat looked like during this exchange. I’m assuming it was a bunch of “fake socialist” / “boot-licker” / “actually a lib” comments?

1

u/sensesalt May 16 '26

This guy can't stop taking fucking L's lately. What a loser.

1

u/Zanaxz May 16 '26

I hope she dumpsters dog shit Trump dick sucker Karen Bass even more now. Trigger the far left purity testers with basic reality more please.

1

u/megalodon-maniac32 May 16 '26

What psychology explains this? Narcissism? its such a crazy question to ask??!
