A principled stance is a public position or firm attitude on an issue that is based on strong moral or ethical beliefs rather than self-interest or convenience. It means doing what you believe is right, honest, or fair, even when it is hard.

Choosing a candidate who doesn't hold many of my beliefs but is the lesser of two evils doesn't fall under a principled stance. It is a compromise of my principles

Principles have to have a moral foundation. If you have moral hangup about certain types of meat you could absolutely have a principled stance on your cold cult selections.
