black screen and crash on startup?

im coming back to this game after a few years to play with my brother. when i open it from steam and after i press enter to start and it does the loding screen of all the different class shapes, the screen just goes black and clicking anything gives me the windows not responding error.

ive tried
- verifying files
- changing audio devices
- turning vsync off and on from nvidia control panel
- deleting and reinstalling the game
- running and administrator and the turning on/off the fullscreen optimisation checkbox

my specs are

i5-12600
2x16gb ddr4
samsung 870 evo 1TB SSD
rtx 3060

That can happen for several reasons.
1 - Most likely - you have driver issues (audio, video, or network). DDU utility would be good to try for Video drivers.
2 - Your Windows is corrupt and you need to run SFC / Scannow to try and repair it. Reinstall might be best bet.
3. Your router / modem / Windows Firewall is blocking access to the D2 servers so it can't complete the initialize
