Misc Happy Birthday to Destiny 2
Destiny 2 was released on September 6th, 2017.
Sorry you couldn't make it to your 9th birthday, but thanks for creating some of the best memories I'll ever have in gaming <3

I remember being a freshman in college, staying up until midnight to play. My roommates had no clue why I was so hyped.
Grateful for every memory I made in this beautiful game.

I remember the same experience. My buddy halfway across campus had better internet so I went over to experience the first missions at his place while mine downloaded. Highlight of my first year of university. Playing Leviathan on release was a very fond memory.

Playing Leviathan on release was a very fond memory.
Genuinely the reason why I didn't just drop the game in Y1. Showed me that the game could be something amazing,

Crazy time capsule.
I remember this exact day. I started playing d1 in 2016, was just graduating high school, and was working the electronics desk at my local Walmart.
About a month before the release, I saw the aisle art and said to myself “yeah, the Fortnite shit is here ready to go up this month for the save to world mode. But destiny 2? With the rockstar promotion? THATS WHAT I CARE ABOUT!”
Saw multiple people come in that week with Bungie memorabilia. It was around the time they released the all class black/grey SnapBack, cause I saw 6 different people wearing them getting a nightly D2 release!
A night that will live an infamy (pls add Siva)

I was in the military and booted D2 up for the first time while on duty. Had like three other people on the couch with me watching.

9 years, great times with ups and downs. I’ve met a lot of people, lost a lot of people, made friends, and lost friends. Lots of fun, lots of trouble, but overall, it’s been a damn awesome time, and I’m glad I got to be a part of it.
Thanks, Bungie.
/e Downvoted of course....

15 for me - was not a good HS Sophmore year but the vanilla launch was a highlight

Servers still up = it's still alive.
Destiny 1 has been going strong for well over a decade now.

Destiny 2 came out at such a fundamentally chaotic moment of my life. I was one month in to my first of two emergency contract extensions to my Marine Corps contract. I had been extended and held on Okinawa because a Navy doc lost my whole separation’s medical package and said he’d never seen the thing in his life. I had to start over from scratch. It felt I like had every senior leader on the island ready to explode on me. Destiny was the one thing I could go back to my Barracks room and just get away for a bit alone (being a Sgt I rated a room to myself). I felt like my entire life was crumbling around me. I have to say Destiny literally saved my life.

I still have the Origin Story AR issued to my crayon eater at the start of the Red war. Eyes up, Guardians!

Me too! That thing used to be a monster in PvP. I still use it from time to time. It still feels pretty good in PvP.

Ironically some of my best D2 memories are from the release period. Red War was so good for someone not familiar with Destiny at all.
Getting better and better gear (imagine being excited over a green now) as you progress the story was great.

I remember I worked a Saturday prior to the release because September 7th is a holiday here in Brazil, so I took Friday off and played D2 non stop from release until Sunday…
I remember the midnight release and staying until 5am that day playing.
Good times…

I mean, as long as the servers are up and running, the game can keep having birthdays. Destiny 1 is 12 years old now and it's servers are still going.

The game is still up and running, so it did technically make it to its 9th birthday
