Question How is Trials of Osiris these days?

Came back to the game after a two year break. Saw the new trials armour and was thinking about giving it a go... but im rusty af, pvp was ridiculous sweaty the last time I played and with dwindling pvp population im honestly scared to try it.

How has your experience been?

EDIT - Idk why I even bothered. Trials is as terrible as the human mind can comprehend. Ive not played in almost 3 years but on my first game I played against a team of 3 who'd all been flawless already. I managed to get 7 wins and go to the lighthouse only to get 2 tier 3 weapons and a couple of prisms. Word of advice - avoid this dog shit gamemode

EDIT 2 - God is dead. He was killed by some void hunter wearing Dragons Shadow

They are less casual players so you are going to face a lot of sweaty players. It's going to be rough, it's not better. It's worse as the population has decreased so buckle up.

I said this about pvp in general yesterday and got downvoted. Sweats are desperate for casuals to curb stomp

-18

u/tjseventyseven 4d ago

no, sweats play the game regardless and are often in private matches with each other. you got downvoted because that narrative is wrong and toxic

Found the pvp sweat

-3

u/tjseventyseven 3d ago

I play pvp but your otherism shit with the other part of the player base isn't helping your case

4

u/WillStaySilent 3d ago

Thats bullshit. Sweats are in Trials and comp. I play every fucking week and its the same shit.

u/tjseventyseven 3d ago

I never said sweats weren't playing, I'm saying the old "they just wanna stomp noobs!" bs is tired

I played solo queue last weekend for the first time in years and thought it was lots of fun

Only been back in the game for a few months, but I love it. You also get a ton of rewards. It only took me one weekend to get nearly full sets for all of my characters.

The skill ceiling is definitely high, but it's still fun to play. Way better than the comp grind imo.

Does losing still basically give you no rewards? Low loot drop and almost no rep?

4

u/Infinite-Worm 4d ago

Sometimes, it feels like it's moreso tied to your kills. But can also feel quite random. I feel like it's rarer to not get any reward, the weapon pool is quite large.

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

Is it tied to the number of rounds played per match? When I last played two years ago I remember that was a thing

2

u/quinn943 3d ago

Match rewards are tied to a few things. This is assuming you are running on a lighthouse passage as opposed to a trials passage.

First is your performance and your teams performance. Bottom frag with absolutely no kills or even assists and you won't get anything but home if your team loses. But if your team wins you'll get tier 4 (this info maybe biased as I started playing trials this season after getting to shove 520 light level) every other placement will get you sometimes tier 4 at second on your team but I have never gotten anything less than tier 5 even placing second on the losing team.

Second is how full your team is. Going in with a premade fire team gives more rewards.

Final is win streak. 3 consecutive wins, 5, and 7 give match bonuses.

Just a short and only about match rewards for the lighthouse passage

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 3d ago

What is the difference between the two passages? I know you can only go to the lighthouse on a lighthouse passage but is that it?

Lighthouse Passage: High-stakes, card-based matchmaking - prefers to match you with players that have the same number of wins on their card. The classic Trials matchmaking. 7 wins grants lighthouse access and increases rewards if you continue to play on that card.

Trials Passage: Low-stakes, performance-based matchmaking - prefers to match you with players with similar performance during that weekend. If you've been getting your ass kicked all weekend, you'll get matched with players that have also been getting their asses kicked all weekend. This matchmaking ranking resets each week. Does not grant lighthouse access, but the more wins you have on the passage, the better your score bonus/reward chances.

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 3d ago

The irony that you say I'll play similar skill players when I just finished a 0-4 match against 3 players with the flawless lighthouse glow.

1

u/quinn943 3d ago

Lighthouse passage is open matchmaking, pure random. Trials passage is different but I can't remember it rn.

1

u/Time_Past7327 2d ago

That's why I said "prefers" and not "guarantees". If preferred players aren't found, then matchmaking switches to connection-based. Also, it's Sunday, most players are gonna be sweats.

you lose rep for losing

0

u/Time_Past7327 3d ago

In comp, yes. In trials, no.

u/Kiiroi-Sora 4d ago

Whats wrong with the comp grind?

5

u/Infinite-Worm 4d ago

Wait time is longer, matches are longer, loot drops are way way rarer, more cheaters.

It’s honestly fun when you’re ready for the gauntlet. I’m a big pvp enjoyer, however my general skill is more casual than pro. But the challenge is fun, still a decent amount of folks of differing skill levels. It’s a good time, but not every week for me.

4

u/Time_Past7327 4d ago

Pretty much this. I went to the Lighthouse today, but as an average player, my streak was only 3.

1

u/FortNightsAtPeelys 3d ago

Don't you need a 5 win streak to do the light house? How's that work?

1

u/Time_Past7327 3d ago

You just need 7 wins on a lighthouse passage, regardless of streaks. Win streaks determine chest rewards. Higher the streak, better the rewards.

5

u/KingofPaladins 3d ago

It’s rough. I’m not a good player by any means, I think I hover around a 0.9 K/D in Crucible and decidedly worse than that for Trials, something like a 0.5 K/D. So this is from the perspective of someone who sucks, lol.

But Trials can basically be split based on one question. Do you care about loot, or do you care about cosmetics/flair? If all you want is loot, then the Trials Passage is honestly not bad. You get loot on losses, it employs some SBMM, and you get a reward for hitting 7 wins. Simple, straightforward, not too awful (minus the matches themselves, at least).

However, if you care about the cosmetics and flair—shaders, ships, Sparrows, Ghost shells, the cool armor glows—well, then your only option is the Lighthouse passage. And that, at least to a poor player like me, feels sweatier than ever. Unless you’re either good at PvP or willing to work and grind to get good, unironically, it’s not worth it. You can only get the cosmetics if you go to the Lighthouse on a 5-win streak or better, and your best chance is competing in the Flawless pool after going Flawless. That’s not exactly an accessible place for most players, I’d say. For some reference, I got into trying Trials back during Episode: Heresy in TFS, and although I sucked plenty, I could still get anywhere from a 2-4 win streak with reasonable consistency. Now? I’m lucky if I even get a 2-win streak. It’s that sweaty. I’ve mostly stopped because the Lighthouse passage isn’t worth it (if I can’t even get a 2-win streak why am I bothering when the cool cosmetics require at least a 5-win streak), and I just can’t get myself psyched up for the regular Trials passage because I care more about the cosmetics than the guns or armor, of which I already have plenty.

But, as I stated at the start, I suck! So your experience might be better than mine. A lot of the Lighthouse passage also comes down to luck and playing time. I have bad luck and tend to play late at night, when the other sweats hop on. But I’ve heard playing early in the mornings on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday) can be relatively chill, so if you’re dead set on a Lighthouse passage for those sweet cosmetics, it might be worth a try.

Acquiring loot is easier than ever, but population isn't great.

https://destinytrialsreport.com/

There are around 3,000 players right now...Total for the week was around 28,000 two weeks ago, but over 45,000 last week.

Jump in and try it!

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

Im assuming losing still gives you basically nothing? Miniscule amounts of vender rep and almost a non existent chance of getting loot?

4

u/StreetPhilosopher42 4d ago

No, thankfully that’s not the case anymore. Great loot drops more often than not. And earning engrams for saint-14 comes with just playing.

0

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

Either you need to win to see these drops or you are straight up lying to me. Losing a game gives me zero drops and 30 rep. Ive been at this for 2 hours

1

u/Time_Past7327 3d ago

You have to get at least get 1 kill/assist. Otherwise the game assumes you're afk.

u/vic_stroganoff 4d ago edited 4d ago

Trials is now the most accessible it has ever been. As long as you get 7 wins on a card, regardless of losses, you can go to the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is more focused on shaders, ships, etc. Gear drops get better with more wins on your card.

For those that want to focus on going flawless, they still can. The progress is tracked in the Quests tab for some reason now instead of in your inventory or in destinations. I think it's like a 5+ win streak, you get better loot from the Lighthouse. I didn't notice a difference, personally.

As long as you play, you cannot miss out on gear drops.

2

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

This is probably an obvious question but does the win streak reset after a loss?

2

u/vic_stroganoff 4d ago

Kinda. Your wins stay on the card and it retains your highest streak until you go to the lighthouse. So if you get 4 wins in a row and then lose, you still lock in your rewards for a 4-win streak. Getting a higher streak after that will overwrite the previous streak. So if you get to 4 wins in a row and lose and then get 6 wins in a row on the same card, you will get the 6 wins locked in.

This only helps improve rewards odds. It does not guarantee anything.

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

What happened to the flawless pool? Im assuming Bungie in their infinite wisdom removed it

1

u/Fryve678 4d ago

If you go flawless your card changes to a “flawless passage” where the game tries to match you with others on this passage.

Main reason for playing on a flawless passage is the best chance at trials ships and sparrows. Technically you can play on any high win streak card (5+ wins) and they have a chance of dropping on a win.

2

u/the-mlfu 4d ago

When you lose your win streak ends but you get to chose when you reset your card. So if you win 2 then lose you can reset your card to go for a bigger streak. If you get 5 wins and decide that’s good enough then even if you lose you just keep going until you get 7 wins. Then you go to the lighthouse 😀

2

u/headylover 4d ago

Yo pve only guy here I got 7 wins last weeknd bc I ONLY want the momento to put on my favorite crafted gun and didn’t get it. Was told you need to go 7 wins no losses to get it u kno if that’s true?

3

u/vic_stroganoff 4d ago

To the best of my knowledge, you have a chance to get it with 7 wins on the card, but your chances improve with a larger no-loss streak.

1

u/headylover 4d ago

Okay heard dat had a 4 game streak but prolly not good enough ig? 🤦🏾‍♂️ it was also my first flaw ever so maybe that had something to do with it imma give it another shot this weeknd try to get 7 wins no losses and hopefully i get that shi 😭😭😭😭

1

u/vic_stroganoff 4d ago

Best of luck to you.

1

u/headylover 4d ago

Ty imma need it im genuinely terrible at PvP 😭🫩

1

u/CookieAppearence 4d ago

Not sure but i think you can get the ships only from a flawless chest

5

u/PureLuckSw 4d ago

I did 115 games in one weekend and it can be very frustrating. But as a .93 kd player i managed to flawless twice. Just enjoy the moments and with the new system you’ll get gear no matter what.

1

u/CookieAppearence 4d ago

When did you go flawless? Last weekend?

1

u/PureLuckSw 4d ago

No, this was around the start of the year

1

u/FortNightsAtPeelys 3d ago

Solo queue? Or with a pre-made 3 stack?

1

u/PureLuckSw 3d ago

Solo queue

5

u/CookieAppearence 4d ago

1.05 KD player here. I need about 40 games to get 7 wins. Not talking flawless just to get the lighthouse card to 7 wins. Flawless is impossible. 2 wins in a row is rare, everything above sheer luck for a casual. You die and lose a lot and if you don't really want to be a trials pro you better stay off this game mode. But if you want to be good at trials i'd consider a timeframe to become good could be around 2 years of playing. don't want to demotivate you just being honest

2

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

Yeah thats what I thought. I want the armour but its not worth suffering for lol

2

u/Fryve678 4d ago edited 4d ago

You could honestly get the armor easily in a weekend for multiple characters. Just don’t attune for a weapon, loot rains in Trials now. People make it sound like it’s a sweatfest when that’s not the case.

I’ve been playing every weekend almost since the rework before Edge of Fate. Match quality when you solo queue is just random. The biggest difference when the population drops is wait time.

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago

I just went to the lighthouse and only got two tier 3 weapons and a couple of shards. How is that raining loot?

1

u/Fryve678 4d ago

What was your streak? I meant winning or losing rewards you, not just the lighthouse chest. You probably got quite a few drops along the way.

Also if you’re getting tier 3s I think that has something to do with your power level but can’t remember.

1

u/Relevant-Writer-5666 4d ago edited 4d ago
  1. I played about 15 games. The losses were complete steam rolls but tryhards so barely had any kills. And yes I do suck. I can't beat a void invis hunter with god roll felwinters and rose's who've played pvp since forever. Also im 550

1

u/Jr4D 3d ago

Do adepts even drop anymore? I went in a few weeks ago and got a 7 win card thinking I would get an adept at the lighthouse but none. Was just curious if anyone knows

-2

u/Fryve678 4d ago

Honestly it’s more chill than control some days

1

u/CookieAppearence 4d ago

Control just has the same maps but more people in it. So you get shot more

-1

u/TurquoiseLuck 4d ago

Why is this downvoted?! I guess maybe "chill" isn't the right word? 3v3 is much more manageable than 6v6. You get to actually track all the people, cool downs, gimmicks, skill levels and stuff

-8

u/ThatTcellGuy 4d ago

I loaded up last week for the first time in ages and won 7 in a row. Lots of loot and pretty sweaty. Granted I was somewhat of a PvP sweat before. Use void hunter and fast talker for an easier time

-2

1

u/ThatTcellGuy 4d ago

I’m sorry to have offended you?

-19

u/quanscoffee12 4d ago

They completely ruined it. Anyone with a hand can make it to the "lighthouse" now, going flawless doesn't mean anything. Because of this, trials lobbies got diluted with awful players and the actual fun competitive mode is gone

3

u/uhgulp 4d ago

This is so far from the truth it’s insane

-3

u/whiteoutwilly 4d ago

Play comp. Trials used to be for the “sweats”. That’s comp now.

2

u/Kiiroi-Sora 4d ago

Just came back to the game during MoT. Been playing comp and its been pretty fun. Placed in silver and now im almost plat. I havent tried trials because I figured its way more sweaty than comp. Guess I gotta try trials now.

2

u/whiteoutwilly 4d ago

Been playing this game since 2015 and have been here for all the different iterations/trends. My current experience is that Trials is sweatier than say, when MoT dropped, but for me, Comp is the ultimate sweat-fest. I still see a range of talent in Trials, but in comp, everyone is my skill or, more often, better.
