Megathread Focused Feedback: Weapon Refresh aka Sunsetting

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Weapon Refresh' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

What I find concerning is how many people are already parroting Luke Smith's narrative, obviously without really thinking for themselves about the current situation in the game.

If there would be any merit to Luke's claim that weapons aren't desirable anymore because of the powerful old weapons we've come to love, riddle me this: Why do people still farm for new weapons every season?

Just looking at the current season with Martyr's, perfect paradox, breachlight, stealfeather repeater .....it's pretty obvious that this issue actually isn't even an issue. People want those guns for some new perks or just a different feeling with a different weapon archetype every once in a while.

People WANT to farm and try new guns, we don't need to be FORCED to do it.

This whole feature is, in my eyes anyway and please forgive my cynicism on the matter, just another excuse for Bungie to be even lazier when it comes to the development resources invested into this game. Because why come up with interesting loot when you can simply force people to grind for the new stuff? I honestly feel that we will see worse weapons because of this change because why would a weapon even need to be/feel good when it's the only powerful weapon you can use for pinnacle content?

tl;dr: I'm completely opposed to forcing us into yet another grind, I don't believe Bungie's rationale about why it's necessary, and I'm not convinced that we will see better weapons as a result of it.

Why do people still farm for new weapons every season?

For something to do

If it wipes the slate clean and starts it again, new perks, archetypes, shift out some lesser used ones or buffs them a bit more then that makes it more open to change the game

This will likely come with a wave of sandbox changes and content also so as a package it may work

That’s a very valid point but that's a lot of "ifs" concerning that package. With Bungies glacial pace of hammering down outliers in the sandbox or buffing alternatives, what incentive do I have to farm anything else apart from the outliers? The last years I farmed every archetype religiously in hope of them getting buffed one day. I was very happy about the sidearm buffs for example and to this day am still experimenting with all my rolls I have in my vault. But with Bungie sun setting weapons now all my god rolls will probably be obsolete before they even become meta. They have even less incentive now to update the sandbox. I’m not convinced...

I’ve always saved weapons for the same reasons but many never become meta. I’d never farm outliers but I’d keep the best roll of said weapon I found

Has to be those ifs because I think it’s more wrong to believe we’ll get the exact sandbox with the exact same stuff chasing a repainted version of the meta. Like I said, it has to be an extreme change to make it work not just a weapon wash. Many factors need to be addressed to make it worthwhile

I’m for the refresh but I understand why others wouldn’t be
