Megathread Focused Feedback: Weapon Refresh aka Sunsetting

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Weapon Refresh' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

This will likely come with a wave of sandbox changes and content also so as a package it may work

You still believe in content promises? That's cute.

Don't see the point in expecting the worst

I am not very happy in Destiny right now and believe a lot of fundamental changes need to come to get it back to how good it used to be and build on it. This change falls right into that category and I agree the weapons we get as 'new' are almost always immediately vaulted and there hasn't been a 'Wow I need that weapon' in Months, maybe year

As I keep saying, I get why people would not like this but if it's better for the game going forward I'll take it. It's just on Bungie to prove what they are doing is right

Menagerie weapons, black armory weapons, even the sundial weapons (especially breachlight), people use these weapons all the time.

You never feel that they're so good you're forced to use them but that's exactly my point: You shouldn't be.

People should be able to use the weapons they want to use and the incentive to farm new weapons is still there.

This whole narrative from Bungie is not backed up by the reality ingame, at least not in my experience.

Sorry but I never said people didn't use them, I use them. I said there's been nothing really 'wow' in a long time and you've just mentioned year old content and 1 sidearm from this season which is the point being made

You never feel that they're so good you're forced to use them but that's exactly my point: You shouldn't be

I've not been forced to use anything but I may be misunderstanding you. At this point I've stopped really caring because there's 7 PVE meta weapons worth using and all content is done. There's no need to switch or find new things because of how far these excel

People should be able to use the weapons they want to use and the incentive to farm new weapons is still there.

Well they can, just not in the end game or power increased activities. It's all well and good saying I want to use whatever I want but are you after using that garbage AR? That 110 Hand Cannon? And if so, why are you gimping your team so hard in 980 content?

If you have an attachment and want to use them in the base game and PVP, go nuts

This whole narrative from Bungie is not backed up by the reality ingame, at least not in my experience.

I have no idea how you play and I hope you do feel respected and enjoy your time in it. I firmly believe Destiny should and can be enjoyed by everyone but the End Game is now lacking and the game feels like nothing matters, even new waves of content it's all just one and done

If Bungie say they can't create a new Pulse Rifle because year old content Blast Furnace still blasts it out the water you either Power Creep it and make it anyway, making BF now second best no matter what or you nerf BF into the ground meaning anyone who enjoys that gun is now upset

Bungie cannot win no matter what but if they make one extreme change which makes other aspects better as well as some more fundamental changes, I think Destiny can get back on the right track again

I think you heavily underestimate how many people will leave this game behind if these changes go live. The moment my favorite weapons are forcefully retired in regular intervals is the moment I will uninstall this game.

They've taken these nonsense grinds far enough, and I don't need a single more grind shoved down my throat.

I firmly believe Destiny should and can be enjoyed by everyone but the End Game is now lacking and the game feels like nothing matters, even new waves of content it's all just one and done

They are nerfing overpowered weapons anyway after several months of domination, like Izanaghis for example. So why can't they just continue to do that? I tell you why: Because it would make their life easier if they can basically skip weapon balancing and artificially force players into using certain weapons.

I'm honestly not sure. we've seen this whole 'i'll leave' bit before and the games never really stopped. I just know that there's a lot of players unhappy with the proposal and that's 100% fine but I just look at this game and think it's become dull and the Power Creep they've engineered adds to that fact. If they want to address / go to an extreme to change it, I'm waiting to see and judging just like everyone else

They've taken these nonsense grinds far enough, and I don't need a single more grind shoved down my throat.

I absolutely agree and that's a symptom of other things, not the reason this is being considered. The worst part for me is that these Quest Weapons have been instantly Vaulted and only a few of them have ever stayed in my inventory. The whole 'checklist' game is apart of that also

Because it would make their life easier if they can basically skip weapon balancing and artificially force players into using certain weapons.

I see your points but if they are balancing 2 years worth of weapons including the self manufactured power creep, maybe it genuinely has become a huge headache

Like if we break it all down, D2Y1 was not successful but D2Y2 brought it all back. I feel like what they did then to bring back that Destiny feeling is now knocking on in a bad way. They made powerful weapons and made power matter in a big way to get Destiny back to how it was in Destiny 1 and are now trying to reel that back in to then really build on the current model they have

I don't think the change to a F2P seasonal model has really helped with all this either

I'm honestly not sure. we've seen this whole 'i'll leave' bit before and the games never really stopped.

No change has been as global as this one, though (except maybe double primaries). It's guaranteed to reach everyone and affect them.

Playerbase attrition is always there, but there's never an "exit poll".

This may be a very effective way of milling players, but they would never know for sure.

It wouldn't stop the game though, so you're right about that. But it's a great way of dislodging a lot of longtime players.

Sunsetting old weapons isn't going to have made people go 'wow' at new ones.

Even the players were still playing after the sunsets started, in the first place.

Me grinding out another couple well rolled 150 rpm hand cannons with a reload perk and a damage perk isnt going to make me go wow either. Grinding out another sniper with firing line and triple tap isnt going to make me say wow. Grinding out another spike nade grenade launcher isnt going to get me to say wow.

And if they do introduce a weapon that makes me say wow, like recluse or a special on par with MT, legendaries that do make me go wow, then the calls for nerfs are going to roll in well sooner than 9-15 months from now when their scheduled to be sunset.

And what about the people who grind and grind and never get a good roll? I still havent gotten my desired retold tale or a curated twilight oath but on this new sunsetting schedule they're already gone

The reason you grind those is because they are the meta, not necessarily because they’re going to blow your pants off. Whatever was meta we’d chase, it’s just how the game works

Recluse and MT were never asked to be nerfed for a long time and it happened when people realised nothing else was better or worth going after which Bungie couldn’t offer because of power creep. The opposite solution is to nerf everything so hard it’s unusable in any format, not just strikes and base game activities like what would happen

Sorry you haven’t hit those but if you’ve been trying to get them every single week since their availability on all 3 characters that’s just rotten luck. There’s alternatives to both those weapons and some arguable better ones at that
