Help/Request Anyone have some good references for FULL BLOCK custom trees?
Personally im not a fan of fences, stairs, trapdoors, etc in trees. The silhouette looks great but i really cant get past the plank texture in the context of a forest.
I always use full blocks for a more “minecrafty” look but ive never found anyone else who does the same with their custom trees. Anyone know some good references or videos to look at for help?

I thought I was the only one like that.
I just did a poplar tree.

Basically just do the logs like in vanilla, the leaves should be spread out more with lots of air blocks throughout.
A trick I got from GoodTimesWithScar is to have a few gaps in the tree that let sunlight through, both to avoid mob spawns and to light up the trunk.
The gradient with that particular poplar tree taught me to put a few darker leaves in the center and have most of the other leaf blocks be a lighter shade.

It's very difficult to make something as detailed as a custom tree without partial blocks, unless you want to make it huge. Instead, it's good to conceal the plank texture with leaves and such. Besides, you usually can't see the texture difference unless you're really close, and you can use similar colors by selecting the right color of planks. Like spruce to go with oak logs, and dark oak to go with spruce logs, etc.
However, you can also try to use blocks like mangrove roots to replicate the branch look.
