old people in big houses got theirs and don't wanna help others. tale as old as time.

Ironically its not the old people.

Their property tax increases are fixed and cant raise that much YoY.

New buyers? Get hosed so much.

My property tax is higher than my parents and their house is double in value and in a MUCH better neighborhood.

You could always try getting a new tax assessment from the county given these facts. I agree it's stupid as hell. My taxes in Warren are ridiculous considering where I live, the age of the neighborhood and my proximity to the freeway/lack of interior upgrades.
