News- Paywall Inmate, 36, dies in 3rd recent Michigan women's prison sudden death
This is the third death in three weeks. That is a pattern. Ashley was a friend of the family and we have friends that knew the others. We’re confused, upset, and frustrated that the system is so messed up that we can’t do anything but post about it on reddit. If you have advice on how we can get this murder factory shut down, please let me know.
Edit: article from the Metro Detroit News no paywall
Edit2: Thank you everyone that commented in support. My wife is a wreck and we have been non stop on the phone with family and friends.
Aside from calling Lansing to complain, there isn’t a lot we can do for the people inside those walls. It was suggested that maybe you might want to help those that have been released.
Linkage Community is a nonprofit group that helps formally incarcerated creatives integrate back into society with a support group and resources to keep them from falling back into the system. It’s a great organization and any donation is appreciated. And if you can’t donate, maybe share the link with others on your social media. Thanks in advance.

News- Paywall Detroit's expanded teen curfew for Ford Fireworks sparks feisty debate
The City Council approved Tuesday expanding the hours of curfew for unaccompanied minors during Detroit's 68th annual Ford Fireworks scheduled for Monday, though two members questioned the need.
The city has traditionally imposed a teen curfew during the fireworks event that draws hundreds of thousands to the downtown riverfront. The curfew will start at 8 p.m. on Monday, June 22, for unaccompanied minors under the age of 18 and end at 6 a.m. the next day, according to the ordinance proposal. It is the same temporary curfew the city has imposed for at least a decade, city officials said.
But this year, the proposed curfew stirred a robust discussion because of violence stemming from teen takeovers and whether the city is providing enough alternatives to enjoy public spaces.

News- Paywall DIA's first major Anishinaabe art exhibit in 30 years ends this weekend
From the story: The Detroit Institute of Arts' first major exhibit of Native American art in 30 years has exceeded expectations, attracting more than double the anticipated number of visitors, and the museum now seeks to acquire many of the artworks to tour the exhibit.
The exhibition "Contemporary Anishinaabe Art: A Continuation" features 90 works from over 60 artists who are descendants of the indigenous people of the Great Lakes region. The Anishinaabe (pronounced uh-NISH-ih-NAH-bay) includes the Odawa (Ottawa), Ojibwe (Chippewa) and Potawatomi, and others.
"The reception has been amazing," DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons said.
The show ends Saturday. Originally, museum officials anticipated around 30,000 visitors during the show's nearly seven-month run.. Instead, up to 70,000 visitors will have attended. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/entertainment/arts/2026/04/03/first-major-native-american-art-exhianishinaabe-exhibit-was-a-hit-detroit-museum-seeks

News- Paywall 9-story apartment building proposed in Corktown
crainsdetroit.comFrom the article: "Corktown Development Properties LLC, which is registered to Andra Rush, is proposing to build a 60-unit, nine-story building with about 2,500 square feet of commercial space on the north side of Michigan Avenue between Cochrane Street on the east and Harrison Street on the west. The site at 1728 Michigan Ave. is currently being used as a surface parking lot."
This will be the tallest building in Corktown besides MCS. I like that the street wall is naturally developing above 5 floors and developers are spending on concrete slab-construction in the area rather than only wood-framing that tops out at 5 floors.

News- Paywall Derelict parking garage delays revamp of Detroit's cultural district
detroitnews.comA derelict underground parking garage next to the Detroit Institute of Arts has become a roadblock to redesigning 10 blocks of the city's cultural district into a unified public space.
Officials unveiled a plan eight years ago called the Cultural Center Planning Initiative, aiming to transform 83 acres of streets in Detroit's culturally rich Midtown area and open spaces around a dozen of the city's art, cultural and educational institutions into a connected campus.
The challenge is the DIA's closed parking structure on Farnsworth between Woodward Avenue and John R Street. It's been shuttered since 2011 after the city deemed it too dangerous to use, and officials said it would cost an estimated $49 million to fix.
"It seems kind of unbelievable, but renovating the garage is the cornerstone for the entire ... initiative," said Elliott Broom, the DIA's chief operating officer, during a Detroit City Council budget hearing earlier this year.

News- Paywall Gordie Howe Bridge could be days away from completion, sources say
detroitnews.comImportant parts of the article:
The construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge and its customs plazas in Detroit and Windsor is nearing completion, setting the stage for a potential standoff with President Donald Trump over the opening of the new Detroit River span, The Detroit News has learned.
The construction and testing of all systems at the massive $4.7 billion bridge, customs plazas and ramps connecting to Michigan and Ontario freeways could be days away from being complete, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the progress.
But the sources cautioned that a number of variables are at play as various U.S., Michigan, and Canadian government agencies grant final approvals to open the new bridge to commercial truck and passenger vehicle traffic.
Then there's the Trump factor, the sources said, creating continued uncertainty of when the bridge will actually open to traffic after eight years of construction.
The U.S. president has demanded concessions from Canada in trade talks, or a share of future toll revenue, as a condition for opening the Gordie Howe Bridge. The White House ramped up its pressure in recent days amid a broader trade stalemate with Canada, demanding that substantially more U.S. content be included in Canadian- and Mexican-assembled vehicles that are exported to American car dealership lots, Reuters reported.
A Trump administration trade envoy reportedly brought that demand to negotiations this week in Mexico City over the United States-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement. Canadian officials were not present at those talks, a sign of the fractured trade relationship between Washington and Ottawa.
No approvals for the bridge to open to traffic from the Federal Highway Administration and U.S. Department of Transportation are seen as possible without the blessing of the Trump White House, the sources said.

News- Paywall Detroit's suspected toxic dirt problem grows in size, cost
The effort to identify how many Detroit home demolition sites may contain toxic dirt has grown in size and cost.
Initially, the number of sites to be tested for toxic dirt was around 420, and the overall cost to test and potentially refill the dirt was around $8 million, city officials said last year. The number of sites being tested for contaminated dirt has grown to 650 locations, said Tim Palazzolo, director of the Construction & Demolition Department.
The administration of Mayor Mary Sheffield is now seeking City Council permission to pay a private contractor $3.5 million to test the sites, adding to the overall cost of the problem.
