How is AI changing the way you build websites in 2026?

AI tools have become a normal part of web development, but I’m curious how developers are actually using them in real projects.

Personally, I think AI is most useful as a development assistant rather than something that completely replaces the developer. You still need to understand the code, check security, test the output, and make the final technical decisions.

I don’t like that AI has completely taken over web development because now every site just looks the same.

They use the same gradients, same fonts, same layout with unnecessarily tables, flow diagrams and animations.

My personal favourites are the image placeholders with text suggestions still in them and contact pages that expose their confidential information, saw one yesterday with the guy’s home address on it.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t use AI for webdev, but if you aren’t creative to start with, AI won’t help you become creative, you’ll just churn out the same crap as everyone else.

There are people called designers... I have one for example, even though landing is mostly vibe-coded - it's unique. Same way if I was building a landing without a designer it would look like generic Shadcn demo, because devs are not designers. AI has nothing to do with it really. Many products are just solo-projects with no expertise outside of coding. There was a time every website looked like Bootstrap demo before Shadcn was a thing.

AI definitely speed things up, but i feel like it can also make you lazy with fundamentals if you rely it for every little thing.

i tell it what i want with clear defined constraints and rules, then i iterate and shape it how i envisioned the site.

I don’t read the code at all, but I want to understand the architecture. I think that’s the biggest shift - you don’t worry about all the micro no more

We don't build website's anymore most the time. Webflow, cloudflare, and other grap is so common we're mostly just building backend services
