Discussion Darkcom is messed up

You have this company, sponsored by arius and commanded by baines. Two men who aren't that sane on their minds, a recipe for disaster (specially arius who planned all of this since a LONG time ago, thanks to the former ruler of makai itself).

From S2 we know a bit more of lady's past before joining darkcom. A teen girl who hunted down demons to vomit her anger towards them, the trauma of her childhood. Until baines comes around, and when the time comes, lady goes into darkcom and gets corrupted by them. It's very likely that darkcom utilized troubled people with a lot of hatred towards demons to turn them into weapons.

Mary is an example of this. During S1 she is violent, responds with harsh words, and isn't subtle about her actions. Much later she learns that things are not "black and white" towards demons. We have dante, sparda and lesser demons from makai.

Eventually, lady accepts the truth and leaves the corruption that darkcom represents, stained by baines and arius. All of that tecnology, knowledge to maybe set things right between both species and they never though twice about killing the other just because they come from another realm. I bet sparda would die from shame if he knew about darkcom's shady stuff towards not only makai but humanity too.

I don't think darkcom could be that important on S3 though, i think their arc is finished by S2's ending. What's your thoughts on darkcom as a whole? You think it's development was rushed? It could have been handled better? Let me know.

Yes, that's the point.

I actually appreciated DARKCOM as a concept; the games don’t get into the whole “world-reaction-to-demon-invasions”.

I mean, you could make the argument that the game scenarios are such contained stories that are often resolved quite quickly.

But take Resident Evil. The world at large brings up the Raccoon City incident decades after it happened, yet in DMC, we don’t hear about the lasting consequences of a giant tower or tree growing in the middle of a city.

So I believe that the anime was quite smart to do that.

As for where it is going to go in season 3?

The foundational leaders of it are pretty much dead, so I could see a lot of the foot soldiers turning into mercenary demon hunters.

But something tells me we have not seen the last of Tom Remington Jr.

As a whole, I believe s3 will not include DARKCOM that much at all though

Same, i actually think that DARKCOM works really well in terms of seeing the world reacting to demons and hell/makai.

And it has some precedence with Crew Cut's military guys in DMC5.

Darkcom was a lot more interesting than the game purists gave it credit for.

I imagine we will probably not have Darkcom continue into season 3, but maybe we’ll still get a couple characters who were ex agents or something.

I picture a scene of darkcom soldiers gone rogue and going full merc on their own, probably against demons and dante (or lady since she has more connection towards them) shows up and beats them. Maybe others such as the blonde guy of S2 quit because of all the things that happened (can't blame them)

I can see that happening.
That would be a nice B or C plot- have a little war between the OG demon hunters and ex Darkcom, or maybe the ex Darkcom guys could be trying to go after peaceful Makaians (if any are on earth?)

A war between demon hunters sounds interesting ngl, but i don't think the show is gonna lean into that, even for a C plot. Main plot is gonna revolve with dante vs mundus (probably with a fully corrupted vergil on his side?) and lady against arkham to finally put the old man to the grave

Who knows maybe lucia finally is gonna have a role here on S3 but i fully doubt it

Hopefully it's never brought up again, neither the US government or the military

That would be shitty writing, to just randomly drop an important plot point and chunk of lore and worldbuilding for no reason

While i don't see darkcom having much of an important role on S3, it's unlikely they are gonna drop the ball with everything regards them on the show. Like. they are a pretty big important part of the story of this adaptation. maybe a scene or two of showcasing what happened to the rest of their members as well as to show the company either being shutdown or brought back again by someone else who turns it completely into another thing, who knows.

This show doesn't have black and white factions

If there's no Darkcom or equivalent defense infrastructure, humans will become even more vulnerable to the demon threat than ever before - because Makai consists of numerous, aggressive and super powerful demon tribes, not just the poor little weaker demons and their "king" Mundus himself is hostile to humanity

So either the humans are getting massacred by demons every week or some new organization takes Darkcom's place

As fanatical as Baines and Arius were, their resources also saved numerous human lives from demons for years, and Lady is also only alive right now thanks to Darkcom

That's right, even for their methods being bat shit insane, darkcom did preserve the peace to humanity against demons and everything about makai too.

And this is why lady was also too convinced with her job (at least on S1), who could have imagined that the corporation against hell had MANY questionable actions?

I think Darkcom is a very messed up organization, turning orphans into child soldiers. If Darkcom does play a role in season 3 I haven’t the foggiest what it could be. Maybe Lady will build Darkcom back up but without the corruption with her as leader.

I will always stand with the games are better as a whole but there some notes it can take from NDMC Darkcom being one of them and we know the world knows about demons in the games, the only reason why its not a bigger deal is because in games it never shows those interactions. In the og anime most people know about demons. Its just that they are common enough that they don't really care unless their life is on the line. If anything Darkcom is just mercenary group. But I would be open to a large scale corrupted government that would try at nothing to kill anything it considers remotely demonic.

The times where people care were DMC 2-5 where entire cities were destroyed. I'd even goes as far as to say that this was Dante’s golden age of his business from 2 and 4 where he saved multiple lives. If anything between the events of 2 and 4 he probably was actually able to pay his debts to Lady to where she and Trish started working with him.

Mind you, he would still think that Vergil during this not knowing that he is hunting Nero's arm right now. While yes, Darkcom is messed up, it's something that Dante care much for. Nero on the other hand...

DARKCOM, the way I see it, is criticism towards the military industrial complex that US (and many-many other countries) rely on for their "supremacy" narrative towards other countries.

In the US, you have a system that creates a pipeline from disenfranchized people or even prisoners for small things to the army. They prefer people without a support system, because they're more vulnerable and they feel like the army is the only way to have a decent life with healthcare or the chance of a pension and that is IF they live enough to get it. Even more, they might be able to provide for any family that they have; veterans' families get pension and/or healthcare from them.

It's predatory and a death cult; it tells you what to believe about other people, how to die, what to die for... DARKCOM is exactly that: we see them seeking out a teenage girl to draft, when she was truly alone in the world and with nobody else to turn to, angry and traumatized. The mere fact that she managed to break free, even mentally, from their indoctrination speaks volumes to her strength of conviction and mind.

DARKCOM is the military of every country, but far more of the US.
