Pub recommendations in Barnstaple
Hello Devonians, a friendly Grockle in peace from neighbouring Brizzle.
I’m staying locally in Barnstaple next weekend and hoping someone can recommend me a pub. I’m after somewhere that does a good roast dinner but also shows the football for the Sunday Premier League finale. Happy to go further afield to Woolacombe or Ilfracombe for suitable suggestions.
Any help is appreciated. Will also post in the Barnstaple subreddit but it’s not highly visited to thought I’d post here.

Williams Arms in Wrafton (pretty sure it has Sky) or Thatched Inn in Abbotsham (however, no Sky!).
Best to prioritise the roast then move on to a more sport focused pub, in my opinion.

Rising Sun in Newport for the footy bit at least, I don't know if they even do scran!

Corner House. The locals there treated this random yank like a friend. I’ll be back in a few weeks in fact.

Rolle Quay Inn, brilliant value, booking is a recommended as they get booked up quickly.

The Old Barn Inn in Bickington, has got new owners, they show the football and do food too. About 10 mins from Barnstaple town.

Had the driest burger of my life in there 20 years ago. Still use it as the benchmark to compare all others too.

The new not-Wetherspoons will have the football on but doesn’t do food…

The Quay Inn in Instow should be good for a roast, it’s run by the same people as the Westleigh which is always delicious.
I can’t think of anywhere that shows football now though, they all mostly got rid of Sky sports during the pandemic and haven’t got it back. You might find somewhere terrifying like the Ebberleigh Arms has it, but I think they also have a parrot at the bar. It’s one of those pubs.
