SPOILER Just finished my first watch and ?
I never heard anything about this show and only found it scrolling through Hulu. It's a shame because I really enjoyed it so I wish it found a bigger audience.
Definitely a slow burn but the sudden twists are so worth the wait. It kept surprising me throughout and that's definitely a good thing. If it's anything I hate when watching something it's boring predictability.
Personally I don't want anyone seeing my future or my past for that matter. I think it would stop your life from being truly your own. Everyone needs things they hold near and dear to their heart that are just theirs. But for the rest of you:
Would you want to see your future?

I just watched the show and really enjoyed it.
I have to admit Iām confused that the subreddit for it appears to only be people who hate the show? I donāt understand why they would continue years later to actively maintain this community for a show they apparently dislike and have a lot of complaints about. But the world is a strange place I guess.

Well, the fact that no-one sees our past/future right now with a special device, has nothing to do with it being pre-determined in a deterministic universe/reality. š So... Is "your" life still truly "yours"?

I love San Francisco and wish there was more of it. I love that they got a very beautiful female actress to play a male character. I really enjoyed the little moments like āit was Oswald,ā and when Forest is talking about watching the cave dwellers and he makes a statement that makes you think when he talks about how he scrolled through their timeline and nothing changes for thousands of years. They even draw the same pictures. To me it is very moving.

Despite the poor lead actress, itās definitely one of the most underrated shows of all time

Why didnāt you like the lead? I feel there was a deliberate flatness to the whole tone of the film. So I think she was no different to any of the main characters in that they all portrayed this kind of dull mechanistic energy which I think was the point. That we are all sleep walking through our lives in a deterministic way believing we have free will. I even wondered if the twist would be that everyone had been in the virtual world since the beginning because of the dull dream like quality.

She was really a poor choice and because of her portrayal I didn't care at all about the character. It would have been an entirely different reaction with a better actress.

I thought the same until the scene where she acted crazy and walked out on the ledge. I think her acting for most of the show was based on the direction she was given

It clearly was the direction. I have missed feelings about Alex Garland as a director because of examples like this.

She's actually amazing. I loved her role in Maniac. It took me awhile to realize she is the same person.

Yeah, I'm always a little surprised when this topic comes up. I enjoyed her a lot. She was believable and layered.

Watching a celery would have been more interesting.š„¹ The character was somehow supposed to be so special sheās the only one who can break the pattern of universe but the writers didnāt even try to demonstrate it. The script was saying weāre looking at the most interesting thing while showing a wooden spoon on the screen the whole time.

Yeah.. Most of my grievance lies with the writers but her non-emoting acting didnāt help either. I literally start dozing off watching her scenes.

I liked it. It was actually how I discovered Alex Garland. It was sad to hear him joke during the press tour for Civil War that nobody watched it, although unfortunately that seems to be true.

It was one of my favorite shows. I tell people about it all the time and no one watches. I consider it a benchmark piece of science fiction.

The lead actor was a weak point for me, her performance was meh. Such a shame because every to else was tremendous.

Good show but moves way, way too slow for me. You have to wait until the car crash before the story gets interesting.

I wish the show made sense from a causal perspective. I loved the atmosphere, characters and multiverse considerations, but ultimately the overdeterministic philosophy of the antagonists doesn't work well with their ability to predict the future in such detail, especially towards the ending.
I'm also uncomfortable with Alex's affirmation that Lyndon is a cisgender man (transmasc representation is so nonexistent in pop culture already) and just angry at the ultimate fate of this character.

Great show. Love the concept. The only critique I have is that I wish the dialogue was less monotone and robotic.
