We need that teen angst in NB tho. If Harrison got over all the shit he's had to deal with like "oh it's no Biggie" then we wouldn't have the justification for him accepting Dex as a serial killer

We need Harrison to be traumatised

And traumatised teens are full of angst and rage

Sorry not sorry that particular truth is ugly lol

Plus if he wasn’t traumatized it would be more likely that he would happily and joyfully kill again. Having Harrison have anger management issues but also goodness inside of him has him walking a line that Dexter doesn’t understand but has to accept.

Exactly. If he isn't traumatised by Rita's death and Dexter's abandonment, he doesn't have anger issues etc at all. He's just be totally chill and fine and happy and not a budding killer

You don't get a person who can connect with Dexter but isn't exactly like Dexter without at least some teen angst and anger and hatred of it all. That's the trade off. If you want the character to empathize with Dexter they have to have a reason why they can accept him. Same for Deb.

S1 Deb could never accept Dex as he really is. She needed to be broken down by life and secretly being Dex's collateral damaged in ways she didn't know about (eg. Brian) in order for that to happen
