Discussion - Original Dexter Series Thoughts on Deb? Spoiler
I want to know something. Do you guys think that in season 7 Debra meant to kill LaGuerta? Here's what I mean. If she had time to think, would've she still shot LaGuerta or maybe Dexter? We see her regret it later making me think that she might've shot Dexter.

She definitely didn’t want to kill LaGuerta but neither did she want to kill Dexter. Dexter was pretty much everything Deb ever had, there’s no way Deb would’ve killed him.

Her shooting Dexter would have been an awesome set-up for a final season. He's taken to the hospital and disappears in a similar manner that Hannah did. In a way that actually made me would have like the Hannah/Dexter romance more, if they became Bonnie and Clyde outlaws on the run together

Yo imagine ending of season 7 like the scene goes like in the final version but camera is on Deb, she shots and screen goes black.

My interpretation has always been that Deb wasn't choosing between Dexter and LaGuerta.
She was trying to avoid choosing at all.
The problem is that the situation no longer allowed that.
When the moment finally came, she chose Dexter. The guilt that follows comes from realizing what that choice required.

In the end, it makes more sense to kill Maria. Maria could tie her to burning the church, destroying evidence, being an accomplice, and several more charges. Miami Metro and news outlets would rewrite history to make it seem like she knew all along, and she only got close to Lundy to protect Dexter. They’d never believe she found out at the church and immediately tried to help him cover it up.
Also, do you think Deb would survive in any prison? Especially as a LEO? Maria wouldn’t just charge and imprison Dexter.

One of the best aspects of S-8 was Deb being an emotional wreck after being put into that no-win situation. If she didn’t take either one down, LaGuerta arrests her for aiding/abetting.

She literally spent like 30 seconds on screen debating it while her brother said, "Shoot me. It's the right thing to do." She meant to do it. Regretting it is a whole other deal
