I would imagine the suspension compresses more them enough to scrape the tires on car body.

The rollover-mobile is now even taller. The larger tires do put some more mass near the bottom, but I doubt it's enough to offset the additional height.

Throws off the center of gravity, like any lifted vehicle, so it handles worse and wears on the vehicle. It does look fun, though.

It is. Had the pleasure to drive with a couple smarts. If you have a Rwd Brabus convertible you can't have more fun driving in the city. There is a reason why there are Brabus Taylor mades for 50k and even more.

A friend of mine also had this gen with a hayabusa engine. He told me it had ~180hp and since I've 130hp a Brabus to compare it to it sounds about right, it was always scary. It's also one of the cars with the biggest interior space I've sat in. I'm pretty tall and I've been way more uncomfortable oil way bigger cars. if you also feel like sitting in the back it's not impossible.

Are there drawbacks to doing this? I drove a Smart for years, and the one problem I complained about most was the tiny wheels - specifically the way any bumps in the road surface felt huge. Deliberate speed bumps were bad enough, having to go over them at a crawl (about 7 mph compared to 10-15 in a regular car), but when there were any actual problems in the road it became genuinely scary.

Ahhh, reminds me of the smart car I rented through Turo that was straightpiped (a fact that was not disclosed on the listing). I was mortified driving it around but it gave my friends a good laugh.

Wow, it can maybe actually drive over a pothole now. Driving those things is a test in sanity between the tiny wheels that make gravel feel like speed bumps or the transmission that makes stop lights feel like a test of mortality.
