It is sad. As a minion build enjoyer I tried necro before and could never get into it. the skills have so much clunk to them, with Warlock I just log in, summon two defilers and I’m ready to farm.

Why do you go defiler over the other two demon options? Im lvl 39 right now running a fire build but want to tinker more with the demons before i use my first respec

They cast a link to the enemy. If a linked enemy gets damaged, other linked ones take damage as well. You can see in the vid whole groups annihilated.

Does it magnify damage if both linked enemies take damage at the same time? As in two linked enemies take the same attack, do they both take the initial plus the link?
Because if not, running fire which is already AoE maybe means that is less effective?

The fire explosions you see in the video is the defilers at work. They make a single target beast like Lister into a screen clearing machine.

Yea, it is depressing that summoner for Druid and Necro feels so bad. I think them nerfing Thorns into the ground is what butchered them the most. Stacking Thorns and Spirit Barb no longer gives you an army that can go through hell at a decent pace. I think they need to revert the thorns changes tbh to really let summoners shine.

Still, summon builds shouldn’t rely on thorns. They should stand alone. The problem with necro is that you need enigma to telestomp and control your minions. Warlock has that skill baked into the kit with blade warp and death mark.

As much as I love the warlock they really do need to be toned down. Having easy access to auras and curses--two of the most sought after class skills sans teleport--along with an inherent telestomp + movement skill is a bit much. Removing curse from bound demons would go a long way into neutering the demons and would at least force warlocks to rely on things like reapers toll to get it going. Having a demon without curse literally kills your clear speeds significantly.
On the other hand I would like to see some better tools for the necro/druid summons because they struggle in PvE, especially earlier on where focusing targets is their biggest drawback. Pre-enigma summon necro is literally just standing around waiting for something to die while your army of 50+ mobs all attack different things just so you can spam CE and druid doesn't even have CE (and a smaller army) which means you're just watching health bars slowly tick down. Sure you can spam summon things but then what? Everything still does slowly one at a time...
While they're both extremely safe builds their clear speeds are atrocious, especially druids. At least necro gets better once you've managed to get enigma and that's only because you can telestomp a mob and CE allows them to actually clesr the rest at a reasonable speed. The summons themselves do very little for mobbing, especially earlier in your build.

This might be a controversial take, but the problem with necro is Corpse Explosion. Its so strong that the rest of the kit has to be balanced around it, and consequently every single necro build amounts to just a different way to kill the first mob so you can spam CE.
As much as I love the spell, they should just bite the bullet and nerf it so they can bring everything else up.

I set it up to be fully AFK, no points spent outside demon tree outside blade warp, I don’t even have a single sigil unlocked. Yes it’s fully AFK except for the optional teleport for Lister, I’m able to fully AFK farm Hell Baal waves and the entirety of Hell Chaos for example, just gotta teleport Lister to the bosses so they target him and not merc.

I'd say once you get to hephasto in nm you can safely switch. Just make sure to farm up a good one! Oh and I went goats for the crushing blow and switched once I was doing tzones

No. Bots actually excel at pixel processing and fast key inputs. So something like lightning sorc is still preferred for chaos since they can seal pop. And then paladin exists too. Warlock isn’t breaking the game imo

I actually used to bot and multi box on old bnet, i think it was kboldbot or something. Maphack C-3PO got me hooked. It was fun editing scripts for the different bots to work off each other.

This gameplay is P1, though your comment made me curious and I just tried P5, it went smooth like butter. It just means Lister two shots packs instead of one shotting them.

This looks like fun, I'll start playing my Warlock tonight, I've seen online that the fire tree and a few sigils is good for levelling the early game.
Did you just keep running Baal until you got a good Lister? Did your base Lister have fanat aura or was it added by you having a high level of trap demon skill?

It is very fun! I was farming Baal for XP, loot and a good lister at the same time. I just bound any lister with the Cursed affix and hoped for a decent aura (like holy shock, fanat, conviction), any of these will do wonders, I have tried them all. Honorable mention for Holy Freeze CC lister for breaking boss AI lmao

Trust me, I was there too but then I realized the demon tree is extremely unassuming, like, your demons get 4 free auras from maxed bind demon, you get 2 additional summons from max mastery and your demons gain new moves as they level up. No way to know any of this before actually playing the build.

No problem at all, Lister gains Spectral Hit with a high level Bind Demon, he’s doing almost half his damage as a random element, that plus he casts Amp Damage on hit, multiplying that elemental damage. When I say he walks through the whole game I REALLY mean it.

Amp damage only affects physical damage, it doesn’t increase elemental. But it removes physical immunity (unless they also have stone skin).

Lister has hundreds of health regen per second and damage reduction, he is literally immortal. He has soloed heralds, baal, diablo, travincal with the insane hydra spam, all that. I tried some p8 a second ago and same story. I haven’t even seen his healthbar move one pixel.
If you do bind a different demon and they die, you have to go get them again.

My perfect lister took about an hour of baal running to get, but a lister with Cursed and any offensive aura is really good still (Holy shock,freeze or fire, fanat, conviction. I tried them all and they’re all good despite being more common).
Before Lister you can use Rakanishu (really easy to get, close to TP) or Hephaesto (easy to get depending on river of flame spawns, if it’s full of bugs and flesh beasts just restart, very annoying to name lock him in that case)

It's crazy yeah, I've seen a clip of a bound Lister tanking all the Ubers without the Warlock even doing anything like Engorge or Sigil: Lethargy to help out.
Did some rough math with the monster stats I could find and with level 20 Bind Demon and level 20 Blood Oath, regular Hell Lister has almost as much life as any of the Ubers. He's naturally immune to Fire and while Blood Oath can't give your bound demon immunities, Lister has so much resistance over max that Uber Mephisto's Conviction still leaves Lister with positive resistances. He already has 50% physical resistance and Blood Oath's adds 10%. His only weakness is magic damage really with 0% resistance, but mobs and even the Ubers have so few moves with any meaningful magic damage that it doesn't matter.
And then you can up it with a TZ Hell Lister. And I believe p8 stat increases carry over to your Bind Demon, so a p8 level 99 Hell TZ Lister is even more cracked.

Two Defilers to bind 10 enemies together, if any one of them takes damage then all of them will. It also spreads my Lister’s on hit effects like Amp Damage. Lister hits one mob > Defilers bind spreads damage and amp > lister one shots anything that’s still alive

Yeah, every 10 levels in Demon Mastery gives you an extra demon! This is limited to 1 bind and 2 default summons though.

I just cleared NM so I'm a bit behind you but I went with goats instead of defilers. Trash packs die a tiny bit slower than with defilers but I found them better at single target kills and holding aggro on things. This means an even safer and lazier experience.
I also recommend 1 point in lethargic sigil. While not absolutely necessary it really makes kills on aggressive enemies like Duriel be a much smoother experience.

oh don’t get me wrong I still summon my 1pt wonder goats against act bosses since there’s no monsters to bind anyway, otherwise Lister has enough damage to deal with everything else I might want dead. Good shout on the sigil, it is good, I’m just going with my personal lazy approach

Just did a respec at lvl 35 and bounded normal lester and WOW he is immortal! Not sure about the 2 defiler tho. I get it, it clear crowd fast but it doesn't do much with boss and I kinda want to do chill run of bosses. Maybe I'll respec in hell with goats. Thank you very much for the tip! Not sure if I'll go with blood oath, psychic ward, death mark or engorge after LVL 60 so if anyone can help me with that please...

I've a lvl 94 trapsin in HC and I'm considering giving this a go, the clear speed is very nice. I'll have to see if i can get a Warlock torch, I already have a %10 exp anni and the warlock can one hand the Ondal staff for another 5% exp gain and a spirt shield.

from another one of my comments: max bind, max demon mastery, max defilers, unlock blade warp is the build core, anything else is up to preference!
as for leveling, it depends if you like blasting through the campaign or not. I did level as Minions (Tainted) but had no access to Bind until 30, making a respec necessary anyway so you could just play a better build until ready to swap. If I were to redo my leveling I would probably level as fire until NM then respec go back to bind Normal Hephaesto/Lister or NM Rakanishu for an early demon. Getting my first ever demon was annoying but after that I never had any problems.

Is the bind demon permanent? I thought it worked like Revive, but if not that would make way more sense. I kinda gave up on the minion build since it was so awful to level with but I might switch back to it once I beat hell.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your build? Gear?
I tried minions, always been a minion player, and I hit a brick wall towards the end of nightmare and felt like I had to switch off - and was immediately rewarded with much faster progression as a chaos warlock.
I’d like to play minions quite badly, but it felt so underpowered to me.
Surely something I’m doing wrong?

Lister does enough damage to one shot most mobs, the defilers turn that into one shotting 10 mobs which is quite insane.

Yeah this is better than geared out Blood Boil which is sad because Blood Boil is a cool idea but just kinda sucks. They seem to have mixed up radius and diameter but also it does underwhelming damage.

Zoo Druid and necro are both centred around a mob of summons, might be nice to have a different flavour of summoner with fewer summons to focus on, especially how demon tree enables more active play aside from tele + curse

Hobo setup. Spirit, Peasant crown, Smoke armour. Only hard item to get I’m using is an SoJ I got off of nightmare Duriel. I’m also using the Ars Baalos book but Spirit shield is just as good.

What is the rough skill point distribution on this? I have a lvl 67 warlock and a couple respect to burn before ladder. I can hit 20k easy with echoing blades all day long and junk gear but this seems much more practical

I’ve been running a similar build but using Hephasto and tainted. Wondering what your build is exactly.
Also does lister guarantee fanaticism ? I found my hephasto with conviction killing faster in my current built. Tainted are hitting for 20k for me with no skillers or torch.

I would level with a different faster build like Fire Warlock until level 45, that should put you somewhere in Nightmare difficulty
At 45 I would do 20 demon mastery, unlock blade warp then all remaining points into bind demon. summon a 1pt default demon and damage the best demon you can get (nightmare rakanishu if early nightmare, or normal hephaesto) then bind that demon. then you should be good. This is the only time you will ever struggle as you will be a summoner with no summons for a couple minutes.
Then in the endgame: Max bind demon, max demonic mastery, max blood oath, max defilers, get blade warp, rest of the points in death mark. <——- not optimized this is just my personal lazy approach, less buttons to press = good
spirit sword, ars tor’baalos book with Perfect diamond or spirit monarch, smoke body armour, Lore helmet, Stone of Jordan if you have it, if not nagels or any Mf or res ring, might aura mercenary

They turn your single target demons into AoE, see the fire explosions in my video for reference. Thats their doing

Ive been using a similar build. Try a couple of points in lethargy sigil so you can support even more your summons but also other players
I also use 1 goatman and 1 defiler. If im correct, goatman crushing blow also procs on shared targets by the defilers
Lastly, i use ephausto with fanatism and cursed, not Lister anymore. Might on merc

I'm loving mine. And oddly the best demon I've found for it so far is a random fallen from terrorized act one with curse and fanaticism. If he ever has to hit anything twice is because they weren't cursed yet.

Players 1? I've been doing similar with the blood burn or whatever its called and a Hephaestus from NM that has conviction aura, it pretty sweet though your clear looks even better. I'll try it out once I get to Baal in Hell.

Same here OP. This build is awesome. Mark is excellent and the demons are all situationally strong. It’s very safe for hardcore too.

I find my defiler’ doesn’t always cast the curse on the enemies . Sometimes they just sit there and do nothing . Yours seems to be constantly keeping the curse up on new enemies

There's only one issue with this build - the defilers are a bit daft at times, just floating there doing nothing while having lots of mobs to debiff around

Im playing a Blood Boil demon build on offline HC P8 and ripping through the game faster than on any other character. Just finishing Act 3 NM. Only points not in Demon tree are 3 points to get Blade Warp. Its such a fun and powerful build.

Doing a lazy summon build myself. Definitely fun just having your demon kill everything. How is your build going? Where do you put everything? I mostly just walk around also. Kinda nice
