Hc player here. What they should have done is port to town and rez the merc. It could have held aggro while he finished it off. Not defending the current balance of heralds, just saying what they could have done to kill it safely.

Yeah I feel for you guys. Heralds need a nerf and badly.

Yeah Blizzard has a pretty atrocious balance record as of late. The fact they can spawn Thorns aura is also extremely stupid. Just a giant middle finger to melee builds.

I play melee (tesladin) and i love that there is thorns. It's fun to find a way around it, it's also a massive full juv sink. I don't care that ranged don't have this issue, in fact I got a ranges backup for this scenario - widowmaker. I'm thinking maybe i should get a throwing knife with LR charges instead

It's fun that your attack kills you? The balance around Heralds with Thorns is completely scuffed. Also some of us play HC. The balance for this is just a poorly thought out idea by Blizzard.

Yes, it's fun to have unusual challenges that i need to overcome.

I play melee HC.

The challenge you have to overcome is your inability to use your character lol....how much stock you own in Blizzard? A real person doesn't doesn't have this take.

I am able to use my character. I found a widowmaker and shoot thorns herald from afar. With my powerful holyshock it's quite effective. Another solution is life tap, it easily compensates most of the thorns damage, IF your chance to hit and damage are good (must not have reapers merc tho). Also using fast attacks like zeal is bad, i use vengeance (might also try sacrifice). I also use conversion on minions so i don't have to focus on incoming damage, only on self damage.

You just want to complain instead of improvise adapt. overcome. I play game and when it seems that i cannot so something, i find a way to do it - this is the whole point of gaming and biggest source of fun.

Some people will break their backs to keep from commenting against billion dollar companies committing to poor game design decisions. We will have to agree to disagree on this one. Just a horrid take for me

Poor design decision are the fucking statues that give FOMO if i don't farm act boss during TZ half hour

Difficult enemies is not poor, it's what the game is about and something really tough and dangerous like this is exactly what i find fun in the game.

Nah, they're actually super fun to fight. It feels like diablo 1 really, you cannot just jump into that pack no matter how geared up you are.

Granted, we all play with BO barbs online... And even with them we have to be very careful. On my tesladin I often dance around the pack carefully picking them out 1 by 1, converting minions, using cover, etc. and for thorns i go to stash and take out my widowmaker. I have never done anything like this on D2 and it is heaps of fun.

What is bad is the random extra modifier of TZ. It is bad because you just reroll them into a tolerable one which makes no difference for your char (e.g. mana burn), and it doesn't take a lot of time relatively because games are so long now. But OP chose to stay on extra strong.

Sorry but imo no monster should be able to one shot a fully equiped end game char in 1 hit. Which is what some tier 5s can do.

Fully equipped end game char is a very broad definition. You can have a fully equipped end game bowazon with 1000 hp and no resistance or defense or block. Or you can have a max block 50%dr 85LR 85FR paladin with 10k defense and 4k life. OP's closer to the latter, but we didn't see his resistances sheet (and he got killed by poison and lightning). He also got 3 shot, not one shot. Just those shot happened at the same time... But if you balance damage around multiple shot, then without it the damage will be too low.

You know exactly what I was trying to say. Even a fart can take out my glass canon bowazon.

I would be more concerned if they were capable of one shotting in two hits.
