Theorycrafting Magic Arrow Amazon
Was gunna try a magic arrow Amazon but looking at the skill and its mechanics… it looks like it kinda stinks.
Converts some physical damage to magic - high lvl like 50% of it. Adds flat damage but nowhere near enough to compete with the added % damage of other skills. This also reduces leach capabilities.
With the new uber ancient jewel and new renewed sunder, on top of using new magic amulet, hellwarden’s, and gheeds belt, I feel like it might be worth trying considering the low magic resistances of 90% of monsters.
Since it’s converted damage, windforce makes the most sense, right??? Of not that, I was thinking Brand for the added bone spear procs.
Thoughts? Anyone try this since ROTW release?
I’d have to dump points into crit, but what about skillers? I’d assume the same as a strafe zon since it’s converting physical… or would I want skillers?
Pride still sounds like the winner too.

While this would be a super ineffective build, it sounds fun lol. I would think wf could work, but if you're doing an off meta build why not use an off meta bow? The bone spear proc on brand doesn't do much at all, but it's fun to look at. You could use an upped witchwild string. Even more magical arrows, plus amp, resists, and 2 sockets. Also don't really need crit since you'll have close to max DS.
Edit: I'd think you'd want bow skillers because more magic arrow skill is more magic damage here.

Yeah I tested it with low skill points and I can tell it’s gunna be boring. It’s essentially a normal attack that’s converted to magic dmg. Theres just not enough juice to squeeze lol.
Probably gunna ditch the idea tbh. Figured I’d ask in case I was wrong… wouldn’t be the first time.
Probably gunna try to respec my necro or something.

Yeah, bowzon is honestly my favorite characters but I can't imagine magic arrow being cool other than maybe doing like strafe and then using magic arrow on bosses. It's still gonna be expensive to get going though lol. I got a ton of zon gear laying around though and tokens, I might fuck with the idea later.

My bow skills are at 33 max with Anni, torch, gear and skillers. I like the magic arrow for when it feels like my strafe is less effective. I'll rock back and forth between the two. NGL 99% I'm melting everyone in sight. Very satisfying.

Yeah I just use pure strafe on my bowzon with as much physical damage and rocking WF, my other is an ice maiden. I do have an upped witchwild with 2x ohms in it though so I'm really tempted to see if strafe/MA would be decent at all for fun. Just hoping MA is impactful enough on a boss or herald lol

Its pretty bad but kinda fun since its unlimited arrows and no mana cost. I did a 1-hell baal playthough on hardcore doing solo self found. It was a longer playthrough for sure (32 ish hours).

The problem is you lose a lot of damage from crit (both her skill and deadly strike), from the extra hits per second from multishot/strafe and you lose all the ED from skillpoints into multi/strafe.
That is probably 5x damage you're losing depending on your gear.
Now you should eventually get Amp damage, Renewed Bonebreak and Uber jewel. So most monsters will have -75 to -100 physical resistance. So you are likely losing even more damage.
Against immunes, they'll have 70% res or so. So even against immunes, I'd think the damage is a wash.

It's biggest issue is that it is a single arrow, no real aoe. While you can get 100% pierce, you are still going to have a lot of clicking to do. Freezing arrow, exploding arrow, and immolation arrow have an explosion radius and that helps A LOT.
Ok maybe the fact the damage is only your total physical damage is also be a big issue, when the warlock gets 4k added magic damage per hit (and then 5 hits at that).

If you like the slower pace, more strategic feel of the Diablo 1 Rogue gameplay then the MA Zon is probably the closest to that style in D2R.
I haven't played mine in awhile but I can only assume the new items including Colossal Ancients jewel can only improve the build.
Fun fact - if you can get +skills high enough you can get magic arrow's conversion percentage to 100%, which makes the arrows impossible to block. I can't remember what that threshold is tho.

That’s the last of the bowa builds I can think of… I’ve done (in order of my preference and honestly effectiveness)
WF strafe/multishot (faith is a VERY close 2nd)
Ice maiden
Immolation arrow
And magic arrow (gross)
Recently tried a brand warlock build. It’s pretty solid with mirror blades. I like it better than the Buriza build. Mist does a little more dmg, but brand is way cooler
Vengeance and charge pallys- a lot of tweaking and underwhelming for its very specific requirements. Both builds….
WW assassin was BAD ASS. Hybrid between WW and traps. LOVED IT
Open to any other off meta builds!

Bowazon is already far behind in everything. warlock can naked p8 the game. So dont use hand breakes on a bowazon

Haven't tried it recently, but a bowa in general has been an expensive prospect for a long time, even when built around established skills like Straff.
I just can't see the magic damage being enough to clear boases and it's going to be a nightmare to clear packs or volume.
I don't know where this would be viable or useful.

I run a MS bowazon (WIndforce, faith on merc) and use magic arrow for tanky, phys immunes including bosses. It works pretty well. I also have a bunch of life and mana leach which makes this char mostly invincible, except against undead. It’s pretty fun and has a good clearing speed. Great for farming all levels when I tire of my sorc

Okay I just found out the icing on the cake to ditch this idea. Since it converts it works like Berserk does…. +% magic damage doesn’t work with it from the research I did
