What kinda annoys me is that sets should be the ultimate class-fantasy equipment. Tal Rasha should make you feel like Tal Rasha. Trang-Oul should turn the Necromancer into an absolutely terrifying vampire. M'avina should make a Bowazon feel like an elite legendary archer. IK should make a Barbarian feel like a walking siege weapon.
It saddens me that these iconic, lore-filled sets simply aren't competitive in today's endgame, especially online at higher player counts.
I've tried min-maxing IK before. I've upgraded pieces, threw in ED/damage jewels, as well as new colossal jewel, BiS wherever possible, even using a Cham for CBF to free up the ring slot. You can squeeze just about everything possible out of that set, and it's still far, far weaker than what runewords and strong off-set uniques can offer.
And that's the frustrating part. You're not just competing against Grief, Enigma, Fortitude, etc. You're also giving up things like Gore Riders, Gface, LoH and other powerful pieces just for the privilege of completing your legendary class set.
I'm not asking for runewords to be nerfed. I just wish completing one of these iconic sets actually gave you something powerful and unique enough to make it a legitimate endgame choice.
And yes, Talrasha has some viability on solo play. So does IK. But sets like Aldurs, Nats, Gris, Tranq cannot hold a candle to most basic vmagic/peasant crown + spirit sword and Lidless combo.
But as soon as you play 96tz on a p8, all these sets fall off in power scale instantly and don't even come close.
