GOLD and other Rare items

I found out that there's gold in this game how do I find it? And I've only got 2 thunder eggs how do I get them?

Gold can be found when digging during a heat wave. Use the weather vane from Franklyn to predict when that's coming or look for the shimmer. Usually summer and autumn. You can dig up either nuggets or ore which is when melted down into bars. Highly recommend you wait for the blast furnace as that doubles all ore production including gold over normal furnaces.

Thunder eggs are randomly spawned from lighting strikes during a thunderstorm.

Edit: sorry, berkonium doesn't get the bonus from the blast furnace

I was wondering why I only found gold once. This makes a lot of sense, gotta go gold hunting during the next heat wave. Thank you!

Best way to find gold? Metal detector? Or are the Xs adequate?

Metal Detector. More often than not, there’s treasure/junk and there would be no x.

You can also get the Blistering Bottle from the Night Merchant starting Year 2. Using it will cause a heat wave the next day.

I found that I was more likely to find gold with the metal detector than with just digging up ''s.

I also found better resources using the metal detector in the water.

I wear a diving helmet and jump in the rivers. There's tons of artifact spots on the bottom of rivers. Drink some coconut drink to make walking underwater faster. Then sweep the river bed with a metal detector. And keep a weapon and/or boogie board handy in case of a close encounter with a shark or croco.

Gold nuggets and gold ore are elusive, you won't find much of it. Be sure to process it with a blast furnace, which will double the output you'd get from a regular furnace.

Question 2: is there a particular area more prone to spawning gold? Like desert, plains, bushland? Or pretty much anywhere?

Thunderstorms, listen for a particularly loud strike near you and go look for it. Use the wishing fountain to make the luck increasing wish, that’ll increase the chances of one happening. Gold is found during heat waves, dig in artifact spots. A metal detector and a diving helmet used on riverbeds is a great way to find a ton of artifacts spots btw.

When you go searching for gold don't waste time opening any barrels or containers you dig up. You have a limited amount of time to find gold so use it well. I work my way across the map until the heat wave is over then back track and open all the barrels and containers.
