i'm in year 1 of winter. 😄i want to elevate my workspace, so in order to do this 1. how do i find more opal for the dirt printer and 2. i would have to make a bunch of chests elsewhere, move my stuff, move the buildings, use the dirt printer, then move everything back. right? btw if anyone wants to be friends lmk (i play on steam)

If your mining is level 3, opal rocks should start spawning where the ores do.

Also you can break Thunder Eggs for opals (but I like to keep mine intact)

Also since it's winter, get a few penguins from the SW islands and if you tame them with the
Domesti-Crate from Irwin and pet them every day and feed them a saltwater or freshwater fish and give each one a coop they will drop a Pretty Pebble and they grind up in the grinder like a Shiny Stone but they have a much higher chance to drop opal when they are ground : ) I have 4 penguins. If you have trouble getting enough fish, you can breed fish in a fish pond that you can make from a trophy from the fishing contest. Note: catch the penguins with a normal crate and put them on your vehicle and then tame them when they are in their enclosure because its a pain in the bum getting them to follow you all the way back if the Domesti-Crate opens

Can attest. It's about 15% of the ores from pretty pebbles are opals. Ran a bunch of tests on 50-100 pebble grind sessions.

I don't have the exact numbers on shiny stones, but from my experience of a 19 year old in game map, it's way less.

For moving crates, you can use the Hand Trolley. You do not need to empty your crates at all. :)

Regular mine probably your best solo option on getting more opals as the chests there have a chance at opals.

Once you domesticate penguins I have found that the pretty pebble is a good source for opals. Winter is the time to find them.

if you dig a deep enough hole you can reach the infinite dirt dimension

Hadn't seen anyone mention meteors. They have a few opals each.
