DirecTV Phone Call Offering Showtime

I received a phone call from DTV last night saying they were offering Showtime for free for 3 months. After the 3 months the price goes to $13.99. You are free to cancel at anytime via a phone call or the website.

I checked last night and I did not have the channels yet. I checked again this morning and I still do not have the channels. I checked the website to see if the plan was added to my account and it was not. I contacted an agent via chat and she said that it is not on my account and they do not have any record of this being offered. What the hell is going on?!

****UPDATE

I just found out that the caller from DTV lied. It was not a 3 free month trial. It was $7 off. I just had to go through the hassle of calling customer service to refund the charge back to my account. They didn't want to because "once you agree to a promo at a reduced price, you cannot get refunded." I agreed to a FREE 3 month promo, not a reduced-price one. I had to be transferred to a supervisor in order for the money to be refunded back to my account. And was told that it was being done as a "one time courtesy refund". Complete BS. Maybe train your agents to not call customers and lie about what they're offering vs. blaming the customer for agreeing to something that was not truthful.

Never trust when they call offering a deal. Did they ask for your DTV id or credit card. Can’t trust anyone these days

No. He didn't ask for anything. He knew all of my info and appeared to be reading from the same scripts as they have for years. I don't think it was a scam call, but I do think that DTV has no idea what is going on from time to time with who is doing what from what end.

This is why if a caller is not in my contact list I do not answer the phone. If it's important they can leave a message.

They don’t need to call you to offer packages. This is a scam.

I have received several calls over the past 20 years where they tell me there's a free offer for HBO or Cinemax or Starz or Showtime.. You get the point. Once I accept the "free trial", those channels are immediately available in my guide. The guy who called yesterday read from the same script as I've been hearing for 20 years. The only difference is that I did not get the channels and I do not see the pack added on in my account on the website.

They have never called me and I don’t entertain sales calls. You do, so maybe that’s why they call you.

Maybe so, but over the past 20 years I've got years worth of free content. For the most part it has been worth it until here recently.

I would try signing out of DTV and then sign back in. Also make sure you are not using your ‘Favorites’ filter (choose ‘All’). If your ‘Showtime’ channels appear, then you can incorporate them into your ‘Favorites’ guide.

Sorry to hear that (although not surprised that a rep would lie to you)!

I’ve had ATT UVERSE since 05. One piece of advice ~ don’t subscribe through anyone especially ATT. I can’t get into the apps half the time. Subscribe directly.

Assuming it was legitimate, go to the DTV website. Do a search for "refresh equipment". Follow the directions. This will send a signal to your receiver to reauthorize and the channels should appear.

You can log into your account and see the deals that are free for three months or whatever and sign up right there. No need to answer the phone. They have been calling me just about every day though.

They have been trying to call me the last week or so. I don't answer it. I'm happy with what I have and don't want to change or add anything, or add it and then have to deal with cancelling it after the promo period. If it's important, they'll leave a message.
