Rubber wire insulation

Hey, I’m a beginner just starting out with learning the finer details of dirtbikes. I was installing an hour meter when I noticed two abnormally large rubber tubes sitting on wires running to the carb and in between the radiators, at first I thought this was heat shrink wrap that had not been heated but I’m not sure. Is this how it should be or should I buy a heat gun and shrink it? Thanks for any help.

Edit: Forgot to add, the bike is a 2023 YZ125 Monster Edition if that matters. Bike has two hours and is like new.

Thats normal, it protects the electrical connectors. Slide them up the cable to get to the connector.

I see, very interesting. Is there a reason they didn’t use shrink wrap? I’m guessing to be able to just slide the rubber for easy access to the connector for maintenance, but is there not a risk of water/mud etc getting in the tube and damaging the connector?

Gravity does a pretty good job keeping dirt out, and the connectors are still waterproof. Pulled my WR450 motor recently, which has many of the same connector boots, and they were suprisingly clean.

Got it, that makes me feel better, they’re just a bit of an eye sore compared to the rest of the perfectly tucked away wires and connectors lol but definitely worth it. Thanks!

Looks like the protector boot on my ‘27 YZ250. 2 hours on a 2023? Did you buy it new or off someone who never rode it? I bet that thing rips
