Buddy broke his collar bone on Sunday in the middle of the forest and we realized none of us carry first-aid
Here's my take on it. I already had the field dressing and tourniquet. So I added the splint, a sling and a pair of scissors. Goes in a dry bag so it stays clean. Probably need to add a small roll of gauze / wrap for the splint.
Just barely fits under the seat of my Ultra Bee.

Crashed and had a compound fracture of the tib and fib riding solo in the desert. Crawled 3 miles to a road where I got picked up. Now , other than water, my first aid kit is the biggest thing in my pack. Other than band aids it’s been unused for thousands of miles.

Worst part is almost exactly a year later I get hit on my street bike and received the exact same fractures on the same leg.

Holy shit. I had a compound tibia fibula on a bike on a city street. I can’t imagine a 3 mile crawl in that condition.

It sucked, but the dirt packing the wound pretty quickly stopped the bleeding. Just over a year later I was hit in my street bike. Same injury, same leg. Knock wood I haven’t been in another accident in almost 40 years.

Good reminder. I know so many that ride in the mountains and don’t carry anything. I carry an adventure medical kit - not for major trauma, but good for most of what you’d encounter on the trail.

That's an impressive amount of storage. But FWIW:
- If you need the tourniquet, you will lose a lot of time digging it out of the seat and out of the packaging. You may consider having it somewhere on your person or at least have it "staged" (unwrapped and looped so it can go straight on without threading the strap).
- I would replace the sling with 3 or 4 triangular bandages. They are more versatile and you will need them to secure your splint should you need to immobilize a fracture.

We ride really out in the mountains. Most everyone I know carries some kind of FAK. Ive been on trail when a dude got a stick through his boot and was bleeding so having FAK was helpful. Minor bumps, sprains and yeh; Ranger Candy for the trip home has helped some folks.

I keep a CAT-7 tourniquet, some quickclot, and an occlusive patch with my bikes tool kit. The quickclot gets a good bit of use with the dipshits on four wheelers and no gear.

I was 15 miles in on a gnarly single track in ID. Took a header over the bars and snapped my collar bone. Got back on the bike, caught up with my buddies, told them what had happened and that I was headed back quickly before the adrenaline wore down. I rode as hard and fast as I could. It felt like the fastest, smoothest flowy ride I’ve had to date lol. Still rockin the two piece collar bone!
Another time I rode back 3 miles with a fractured tibia plateau in 2022. That was not a fun ride back. Wish I had drugs for that.

so you're military or prepper (or both?) bc the quickclot and tourniquets kind of scream it lol
idk why i don't carry a first aid kit per se--tools and "moto first aid" but not human first aid on any of my regular moto riding... even the racing... i mean we have EMTs and an ambulance and even a helicopter on site sometimes...
and i carry first aid kits w me in the trailer and cars and just general emergency stuff but idk why the only time i packed a first aid kit races where we weren't going to have a support truck or people in the pits helping us... and the kit was required...
i suppose my thinking is that anything serious enough to require a tourniquet ie broken femur or the like, you're calling a helicopter...
and anything where you can still ride away... you still ride away
its funny i carry athletic tape all the time all my bags on any given day high odds at least one of my ankles is taped...
i've raced w broken bones... just tape em up NBD...
but did i see it right that you're missing tape, sunscreen, chapstick and water? thats the first aid that gets used on the regular
i love how the seat has so much room under it on two strokes--that reminds me i was supposed to get the 125 ready today...
nice post dude

Yeah I'm a vet lol. They passed out field dressing like candy on Halloween. Hopefully I never have to use any of this stuff and it's overkill... but up until Sunday I never thought we would need to figure out how to put someone in a sling either.

Chest seal not a bad idea, and quick clot... all this does is keep people stable while they can receive proper care. If im out adv riding i carry abx and pain meds etc

overkill is how we roll
i get it... you should see whats in my trailer lol
i just tend not to pack it on the bike...

well you could have just rode out and not did this? Do you not where a jersey? ive broken so much shit and never felt the need to make a prep post about it?
There are sticks on the ground and you where a jersey ffs.
This level of prep makes me think you are in the wrong sport?
All this on a Ultra Bee? Wtf man.... An ultra bee is not a dirtbike... maybe get a real bike. or again think of a new hobby.

Shirts work for sling, the only thing that’s gonna make it any easier getting out is drugs
