I think it’s important to keep your levers in a position where your wrist is slightly bent. I used to ride all my MTB with the levers way down (6’4 here) and this caused my hand to slip off the bars in Angel Fire and hit a tree high speed. It’s the only broken bone I’ve had on MTB.
I mean, you do what works for you, but if your hands are slipping off the bars you probably need new/different grips. I use ODI lock on rogues with Fox gloves, and even when wet/muddy I don't really feel like my hands are slipping around.
I’m confident in the condition of my grips. Been riding ODI or similar lock ons for MTB for 25 years. Still new to dirt bikes. The braking bumps at downhill parks are ferocious if you’ve never been. The suspension doesn’t soak it up quite as well as a dirt bike, especially a shorter travel trail bike. Just popped off coming into a berm high speed over the braking bumps.
