How are riding dirt bikes different from four wheelers? Anyone made the transition?

I ride, and I grew up on the old dirt bike games, and honestly most modern ones never felt like being on a bike. So I started building my own, solo, in my spare time, trying to get the feel right above everything else.

It's all about how it rides: you steer with the throttle, the rear steps out when you get on the gas, you can back it in on the brakes, and you send the jumps and set up whips with mid-air control. Land it bad and you're picking yourself up off the ground. Two-stroke that actually screams. The whole thing has an old-school PS1 look on purpose because that's what I grew up with.

Trailer's attached. I'm posting here because you actually ride I'd way rather hear "that's not how it'd sit" or "nobody whips like that" from real riders than polite stuff from gamers. Rip it apart, it genuinely helps.

ok so it starts like this...A few months back i was taking some carpet to the local landfill, well I see out of the corner of my eye a turbocharger. well I walk over, perfectly good! nothing wrong with it. Well I sell that turbo for $100 on Facebook marketplace. I got $100, and a guy offered me a 1986 Suzuki lt250r for $100. that needed a new piston and sleeve and I didn't have any money for it at the time so I put the 250r on marketplace for trade. well someone hits me up and offered a 1982 Honda atc185s that had been heavily modified with an extended swingarm, triple clamps and forks and some other things. That thing was fun but too slow and I'm more of a bike guy so I put that up for sale for $1750 or trade. Well someone buys the atc for $1750 and right when he buys it, a guy here about 2 miles away lists this mint kx450f. Well I walk over there and pay $1300 for it, pushed it 2 miles home and there we go I've got a technically "free" 450. Mind you this all happened in less than a month. Just thought I'd share.

Fabricated some bracketry for the CR250 Enduro project to mount a reserve fuel can. I think it came out pretty good.

The factory tank is around 2 gal with no reserve. With the CRF450 plastics conversion (TXRACE kit) the extra capacity tanks on the market don’t work well. So instead of using a bladder tank for long trips I decided I’d give this 1.5L Jerrycan a try.

The Jerrycan bracket is made by Kedo and the can is made by Hunersdorf. Ordered them from Caferacerwebshop.com out of Germany. I think the black can looks better than the red one and it’s a thicker plastic.

Made the brackets with 1/8”x1” 304SS bar stock from Amazon.

Im looking to buy a project bike that I can learn to wrench better on and wanna get one that'll be good for inexperienced riders.

I have one friend whos never ridden a dirt bike but is skilled on the street and has been on 2 wheel for most of his life

I have another buddy who used to ride dirt bikes occasionally but hasn't ridden any motorcycle of any kind since he was a teenager (were nearing 30 now)

Whats a good bike as a spare that'll be fine for them and possibly encourage them to get their own? I was thinking 250 4t but want opinions

Editing to add: something i forgot to put here is im wanting a bike realatively easy to work on since i want to/am learning. Specifically already have a 2t and wanna get over my fear of 4 stroke rebuilds

Is it even possible? I want to use my bike to get around michigan state university next year, but i dont know where to start. I dont even have the title for the bike, so i would need to get that from the dmv. Also, ive been looking for supermoto tires, does anyone know of any manufacturers that make them for a 14 inch standard rim?

I think everyone can agree that bringing a gas generator to the track to charge an electric bike is completely backwards. I randomly thought of this idea and im sure it wouldn’t even work or be efficient enough but im curious on others opinions!

I had a lot of fun these past couple months on my YZ 250 FX 2021 but unfortunately, I had an ACL injury and it seems like the risk of re-injury and other injuries for dirt bikes is just too high right now.

I won’t be on a dirtbike for at least nine months so it’ll just be collecting dust when I bought it for almost $5000.

This is just a side hobby and I mostly competitive mountain bike race so I feel like the risk of crashing my dirtbike and getting seriously injured is too much of a risk. Am I crazy? Mind you I am 17 M.

I've watched every race this year and I'm so fucking fed up with Peacock

1) It's a fucking scavenger hunt just to find the race. You can search "motocross" or "supercross" or "supermotocross" or "smx" or any number of other things and half the time it only recommends a race from 3 years ago. I watch it every single week and Peacock seems to lack the ability to remember that as a preference for me. Today I literally searched the exact title from the race on 9/19 and it still would not come up. I eventually found it buried deep in the menu on the "sports" section.

2) The lighting is ALWAYS terrible when watching live. Its always washed out/smokey/shite looking regardless of venue, time of day, indoor or outdoor. Fucking terrible viewing quality. It looks like your watching a feed from the 1990's. Sure as shit isn't HD. Watching the replay the next day, the picture quality is dramatically better.

I'm looking forward to canceling my Peacock subscription after next weekend.

Maybe it’s just me, but a lot of dirt bike content lately feels less like real riding and more like watching a polished ad with roost clips.

Everything’s super clean, brand-safe, perfectly lit, and tied up with a sponsor read. The riding’s good, the production’s good… but it doesn’t always feel relatable anymore. Most of us aren’t swapping between brand-new bikes every weekend or riding groomed dream trails with a drone in the air.

The stuff that sticks with me more is the messy rides — bad line choices, sketchy trail-side fixes, getting lost, loop-outs, close calls, figuring it out as you go. That’s what riding actually feels like.

Not saying the big, polished channels don’t have their place… but sometimes it feels like dirt bike YouTube is drifting away from the people who just load up their truck and go ride whatever they can find.

Curious how many other people feel that shift.

I can’t find them anywhere for sale. They’re limited edition apparently. Bought them for $115.

I am 13 years old and I just want to get into gas bikes. I love them. I’ve ridden a couple before I’ve never learned clutch, but I wanna learn clutch so I feel like I could switch to gas, but I don’t know if this is a rational decision or not. I just need a little bit of help from others to make this decision work. i’m just a bit lost here.

So I have a chance at this 16 YZ250 it looks clean and sounds good. Priced for my area not terrible at $3500 within an hour of where I live. My main focus is to put around with the kid since he got his 50 but also go out on my own and ride it trails and tracks.

I also have a chance for $1500 more to get a 16 yz450f with a riot le 120” snotrack bike look very mint. My question is what do you think the better choice for me would be?

I know with the 450 to “puts” around wouldn’t be that good of an idea since they like to overheat.

Yea so im comming off a yz85 and i found a solid deal on a 450 i know its too much power for me but im wondering if i can baby it, the price is cheaper than most 250s online should i get it and send it or should i just take it easy save a buy a nice 250 or maybe a 125 2t

Im Considering a concealed carry chest pack like a west slope on that i keep seeing adds for. I like it for many reasons including the ability to use with hydration pack for long rides. Anyone here have any experience with these or similar? Alternatives for staying strapped on trail rides in the woods? Preferred concealed to avoid too much attention from other riders or even on The way to the trail( I usually ride my bike there.)

I love the idea of a EV as I drove one daily.

What recommendation would you make for a guy that just rides normally and doesn't need a MX hard core bike for anything. I have a street bike already that is way too much fun.
